My husband and I returned to the Bob-Be-Que Shack for an anniversary dinner, and we had a great meal!
Sherry was once again our waitress, and once again went over and above. When I asked about vinegar for my spinach greens, she went to the pantry and found some apple cider vinegar for me. How sweet! She guided us through the menu (we were there early in the evening, and lunch was being served, along with dinner options, until 5 pm) and came back to check on us frequently. She was friendly and welcoming and made sure we enjoyed our meals.
The food was DELICIOUS! I had the pulled pork Po' Boy sandwich, perfectly put together with coleslaw on the hoagie bun, and a side order of spinach greens, equally tasty. My husband had the burnt ends lunch special, which was yummy; he only wished the portion of meat was a little larger. He'll know next time to order the dinner portion.
R. J.'s is cozy and hospitable, and we had a lovely time. Thank you for making our anniversary special! What a GREAT lunch! Five of us stopped in at RJ's today and had a truly marvelous meal!
Sherry was covering both hostess and server duties and despite the many demands on her time, she took our orders and brought our meals out quickly. She helped each of us with menu questions, managed all our selections, and did everything with a smile.
The food was all INCREDIBLY tasty! I had the po' boy sandwich with pulled pork and coleslaw, and the flavors melded beautifully--augmented by their delicious sauce. My side of sweet potato fries were perfectly done--golden brown outside, soft inside, and not at all greasy. My friends who ordered those items agreed. Other items ordered were the barbeque chicken sandwich, macaroni and cheese, and regular fries, and they all received two thumbs up from my dining companions.
The prices are excellent and the portions are just right. The décor is down-home casual and very inviting. And the music selection is popular tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s. What's not to like?!
I can't believe I haven't visited RJ's before today! I am DEFINITELY...
Read moreI just ate lunch here and have to say, one of the worst BBQ experiences I’ve had in a very long time, if not the worst. Ordered the brisket burnt end platter with fries and beans. It wasn’t very busy and I had a view of the kitchen, enough to see them taking food in and out of the microwave. I immediately started hoping they weren’t using that to heat up burnt ends. Well, that’s precisely what they were doing. I saw him take food out, place it on a plate, and place it to be taken to a table. That table was mine and just as you would imagine, tough, rubbery, and terrible. The easiest way to destroy a great piece of good BBQ, heat it up in a microwave. I ate two pieces and flagged the waitress over. I said “ these are microwaved aren’t they “ she said yes and that they were probably left on for too long. She took them and said she would bring me some fresh ones. I assumed she meant right off the smoker, chopped off and plated. She told me the owner was taking care of it. I guess it was the owner that brought them out the second time. He set them down and asked what I thought. I tasted one, and honestly didn’t think it was that much better. My guess is they weren’t microwaved as much. I ate two more pieces and asked for a to go box. The owner (I’m assuming) said it was simply a bad section of the brisket the first time. I told him no, it’s because they were microwaved. No response. The deckle (point) and the flat of a smoked brisket can be great tasting and tender but not if it’s microwaved. I thought I would bring them home and try doctoring them up but decided just to pitch them. You really can’t fix meat like that.
After just leaving the doctor’s office to schedule a second surgery for cancer I didn’t have the mental desire to complain a second time and honestly didn’t feel it would have helped. To boot, if I hadn’t caught it myself, they were charging me $49.00 for my $35.00 total. Could have been an honest mistake but not 100% convinced as it just seemed a little weird. Either way, I’m glad...
Read moreSuper bowl Sunday. Ordered a slab of St. Louis ribs and a half chicken. Ordered online for pickup. Every other BBQ place around us was already out of ribs and chicken by 10AM. This was the only place that had either. Should have known there was a reason. My wife picked up the order. When we unpacked it, there were 2 to go containers. One had the chicken, the other had 7 ribs and a tip cut and stacked in the container. I'm quite sure a slab has more than 7 ribs. My wife said the lady that gave her the order even said, a slab and half chicken. So says my receipt as well. The ribs were very lean and thus very tough. The chicken didn't come apart at the joints and had a rubbery skin. We wrapped them in foil, added water and put them in a 300 degree oven for and hour and a half. Both became much more tender. The food wasn't bad but wasn't that good either. When you pay $57 for a slab of ribs and half of a chicken, you expect better. All in all, the prices are a bit high for the quality and quantity received. I could maybe excuse it given it is super bowl day and maybe they were super busy but they weren't. My wife said 2 people were inside eating and no one was in the pickup area. $28.00 for 7 tough ribs is crazy. The half chicken is twice the price of Wyandotte BBQ used to charge before they closed less than a year ago. That was 100 times better than this one. No, we won't ever go back there. I could have and should have just bought a slab from a grocery store and done them myself. Would have more than 7 ribs and most likely would have come out...
