Wow, this place was amazing. Came here after a recommendation from a local and was so glad I did. I admittedly was hesitant on an Asian (Vietnamese) fusion restaurant in Moab. However, I couldn't be more wrong as the food was amazing and up there with the best restaurants in the biggest cities.
Walked in and their Mission Statement based upon supporting the local community was prominently displayed. After eating there, I could tell every employee believed in their Mission. I came in for lunch and was immediately greeted and seated. There were about 8 booths and a large bar island that seated about 20 people. The waitress immediately came over to explain their menu, give some recommendations, and take the orders.
For an appetizer, ordered the pulled pork deviled eggs and the pork belly plate. Both items came out within 10 minutes. They were both prepared and plated with great attention. They were also made with quality ingredients, which I learned are sourced from their local partners. Most importantly, the tastes were excellent. All the ingredients went well together and really brought out different tastes with each bite.
For the meals, ordered a banh mi sandwich, and 2 banh mi salads (different meat and dressing). The portions were very generous. Similar to the appetizers, they were plated with great attention and visually appealing. All the vegetables were very fresh and crisp. The meats were very juicy and flavorful. Both dressings tasted fresh and homemade. After mixing everything together, the salads tasted great. After being in the hot Moab sun, the salads were a light, refreshing meal. To complete the meal, ordered a peanut butter cookie and a gingersnap cookie. I originally planned on taking them to go, but they looked so good, so ate them there. They were also homemade and were very good.
Overall, from their mission statement of supporting and promoting everyone in the local community, great service, and great customer service, I highly recommend eating here when coming to Moab. They truly believe in their role in their community and found the perfect way of infusing that...
Read moreSo I am a vegetarian and my boyfriend is a vegan. We were asking different people about a vegan friendly place to eat and most of them recommended this 98 Center. We went there like 2 weeks ago and everything was ok until we asked for dessert. They only had some cockies (which I disliked, not having more options for dessert, but nevermind I really wanted something sweet). Like 5 or 6 flavours of cockies, some of them vegan. When we ordered them, our server came with all the options, vegan and nonvegan. From those nonvegan I chose one, but my boyfriend was so excited about the vegan ones, that he took all of them. When we started eating, I tasted his ones too and about one of them I was sure I felt a strong butter flavour. We double checked on the menu and yes, it had butter, it wasn't vegan. So here starts the bad part. When we complained about this to our server, she tried to find some excuses like "oh sorry they used to be vegan I don't know" and her attitude was very careless (thing that you won't expect from a "vegan friendly" place). She didn't charge us for that cockie, but not 5 dollars was our problem. The real problem was her unexpected careless attitude, almost on the edge of making fun of us because the people next to us were already laughing cause we were complining about our "vegan cockie". So for that we decided not to leave tips. All of this was two weeks ago. Today we decided to give them a second chance because even tho the food was really good. Too bad that in the moment we entered the restaurant the host lady instantly recognised us and start explaining in a very tense manner that what we did was so wrong (not leaving tips) and we should rather complain to the manager than not leave tips. She also said that the restaurant is closed even if inside and outside there were still people, so it just sounded like the restaurant is closed for us specifically. Her attitude was really disrespectful and unprofessional. We won't come back again.
The two stars are for the kitchen because they are doing a really good job, but front of the...
Read moreFirstly this review in no way reflects on the wait staff as they were all very kind and will probably only be a valid review for those who are thinking of getting Vietnamese food here. We just finished 3 days in Moab for my niece's graduation trip. On the last day, we all did the full day whitewater excursion and saved our appetites for a final meal before we headed to Capitol Reef. Two of the rafting guides mentioned 98 Center while on the trip, so we decided to try the pho since it seems to be what the place is known for. I lowered my expectations a little as soon as we entered. This place has a lot of "atmosphere" for a pho joint. We ordered various fizzy lemonade drinks, 2 beef phos and a pork bahn mi. The drinks were all fine for what they were. The bahn mi was also okay. The pho however was a travesty of a meal. If I had let any single Vietnamese mom or grandma taste it, they would have fought the cook. At $20 per bowl, I was expecting to have the single best bowl of pho in my life, and I've had it all over the US. All of your herbs and vegetables are already in the bowl when it arrives and there isn't much. Also don't look for any spices other than a little onion. This was the broth you get if you just boiled a hamburger patty in some filtered water. My niece gagged twice and finally politely declined to finish hers after 3 bites. We offered to let her order something else but she didn't want us spending any more money. I ate the beef and kept adding the hoisin and chili/garlic sauces until mine had some flavor. I still left behind half of my broth and her whole bowl. The total cost I believe was around $115 with tip. I don't mind paying for good food and have spent much more than that on even just myself, but I must admit that I was bummed the whole drive to Ticaboo about our mop...
