Josie Wyatt’s could be 5 stars—but it’s two if I’m being kind due to atrocious service. We’ve eaten here many times during our stays at the Curio and the service has always been subpar, but this past stay it was just horrible. More details below.

Highlights: food and atmosphere are actually quite good. I rate atmosphere 5 with nothing to improve, food is only a 4 for value—it’s quite tasty but simply too expensive for hotel food even in Moab. Thus, fire the manager and make prices reasonable and Josie’s is 5 stars overnight. Management, suggest you take that feedback.

Service: don’t expect to find anyone at the host desk upon arrival. Expect it to take way too long to be seated and then wait 10 to 15 minutes even when the restaurant is empty to have a disgruntled server show up. You’ll still be waiting for water. Once you’ve ordered and food is delivered don’t expect to see your server again unless you stand up and knock on the kitchen door. Finally, check your bill closely, they may add gratuity of 20% and hide it in the bill (titled gratuity) then leave a line for tip on the receipt with suggested gratuity that will be on TOP off what you’ve already paid—meaning if you miss this you’ll be tipping nearly 50%. Disgusting.

Curio management, fix it.

Update Feb 25: still a two star restaurant, but service has been fixed—it was positively brilliant this trip. Well done to the management team.

That said, the prices are still well too high. There is a large menu for breakfast but expect to spend over $100 for a family of 4. Dinner is unacceptable in terms of food quality versus cost. Each of our dishes were slow to arrive and cold upon arrival; $50+ steaks were of poor quality from the butcher before they were delivered cold to the table.

How to fix it? The service is there, however the prices are too high (even for Moab) for the quality. Suggest changing the dinner menu to include less options that are easy to get correct, ensuring they arrive at the table hot all while...

We stayed at HooDoo hotel for 4 nights for our anniversary. My husband are I are diamond members. Had breakfast here 4 mornings, 4 lunches, and 2 dinners. All of the menus are found when scanning a QR code.

Breakfast- Menu is lacking. Not a lot of options. One morning I saw a couple with a side of fruit which is not on the menu. Glad I noticed so I could order it the next day. All the food itself was fine. On a sign outside of the restaurant it advertised Togo breakfast burritos. When I asked for one I was told they didn’t have them. They are understaffed which causes service to be slow. Our nice server was always apologizing.

Lunch- We were laying by the pool in the afternoons so we ordered from the bar and either had our meals in our sun chairs or up at the bar top. Service for lunch was always good for us! The restaurant has a specific bar menu and also a separate lunch and separate dinner menu. One afternoon we had lunch up at the bar top and were given a menu that did not match the QR code menu so that was confusing. Also there were two men sitting across from us at the bar top who obviously worked for the restaurant, possibly GM and new chef having a meeting? The man I would say was the GM was cussing every other word even with guests surrounding him. I also saw this same man in street clothes and ball cap that night at dinner walking in and out of the kitchen having what I could assume was an adult beverage. He was also seen bussing tables on our last morning at breakfast. Another sign they were understaffed.

Dinner- We had dinner at the hotel 2 times, our first and last nights. We sat in the bar area for both dinners. Here you have a choice from the Bar menu or the Dinner the menu. Food was good. Service was good the first day but our last day they got very busy and service was lacking.

Overall I think this place still has a lot of kinks...

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. We stayed at the Hoodoo and this is the hotel's only restaurant. After traveling all day we decided to get dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was half filled but nobody was at the host station when we walked in. After not being greeted for a few minutes and a server clearly making eye contact with us we thought we'd seat ourselves in the bar (which oddly had a different menu). It was also half filled but coats covered all the chairs of the empty tables which left nowhere to sit. After going back to the empty host station the same server finally decided to seat us but appeared annoyed. After being seated service was very good, Macky was friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. The 3 stars really has to do with the unwelcoming initial service and the value of the food for the price. The the menu is that of an upscale steakhouse, very limited and each item (sauces, sides, or meat on salads) being outrageously individually priced. It is also the same exact menu as the in-room dining, which is quite impractical. The food was okay, but portion sizes were inconsistent. The steak was cooked well but the bison grilled cheese special was stuffed with generic American cheese and did not reflect the restaurant's theme of quality. It was greasy and tasted like something I'd find at a diner. Drinks were also overpriced. We would give it another chance, maybe for breakfast or lunch. After our initial visit this restaurant feels very mismatched for the hotel. We don't mind paying for quality food, but the value should match prices and there should be a few more fresh simple options on the menu. Sadly we were not too impressed and we had been looking forward to this place when we...

The place is nice and the staff is great but the food is not at all worth the price. My husband got a steak and apparently it was not that good. I don't know much about steak but you can see the same from other reviewers here. I ordered the vegetarian entree which said it came with maitake mushrooms but was actually just made with regular white button mushrooms. See pic, definitely not maitake lol. Overall it tasted like something I could get at some kind of Japanese American fast casual place and the flavor was incredibly underwhelming and bland. The staff was great though! We came in for a late dinner and were seated next to people who started watching videos or something super loud on their phone. The manager (?) came over and offered to move us (this was before our food came) so we did. He apologized for the poor experience and treated us to a dessert which was really nice. Our waitress was also lovely. The food should be improved to match the lovely ambiance and service.

My group of seven agreed, the worst meal we have ever had, but at least it was expensive. After waiting 90 minutes - I can’t fault them, it was Christmas night - we were finally seated. Then our waiter told us they were out of some items. Then as we ordered we were told that more items were sold out, so I was forced to order a salad (for Christmas dinner). Then we waited … for another hour. When the food finally came, it was cold. The steaks were chewy, the potatoes congealed. Best of all, my $25 Caesar salad featured chicken that might have been cooked this month, but I wouldn’t swear to it, and lettuce that was actually hot - the only food on the table that was. I can’t fault the waiter, who was kind and embarrassed. At the end he said, by way of apology, “Christmas is a time to make memories. I guess you’ll all remember this.” We truly will. Had it not been Christmas I would have sent everything back, but we just wanted to leave. The check? Nearly $300.

One of the worst breakfast experiences we’ve ever had — avoid at all costs. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived (only one other table seated), we waited over 30 minutes for an avocado toast and Benedict without a single check-in from the staff. When our food finally came, it was clear the kitchen ignored our order customizations. Worse, the scrambled eggs were covered in a disgusting black grease and looked completely unappetizing. We had to ask the server to take the dish back. Another 15 minutes passed before the remade avocado toast arrived — this time with burnt toast. After nearly an hour of waiting, we ended up with food that was still inedible. This restaurant might seem like a convenient choice because it’s inside the hotel, but don’t be fooled. Poor service, careless cooking, and a complete lack of attention to detail made this a thoroughly disappointing experience. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere.
