Sorry to say but highly disappointed with the FOOD! Items with North Indian names such as- baigan bharta (specific order) was replaced with Maharastra region masala baigan with heavily ‘mustard seeds sauté’ along with loaded yogurt which is typical South Indian recipe!! Masala baigan shouldnt have even a pinch of mustard seeds neither yogurt that this specific dish was loaded with!!! Instead This should be a good amount of roasted sesame & peanut paste. Mustard seeds are specific South Indian cooking ingredient that enhances taste differently when toasted in oil.. masala baigan had very very thick South Indian toasted mustard and yogurt taste that’s usually found with yogurt rice recipe!!! Unsure if the cook/ chef is highly confused as what to cook or how to cook! 🤷🏻♀️ 2nd order was- saag paneer which was another disappointment with heavy oil that was sheer replacement of heavy cream at the end. This saag paneer had boiled saag (spinach) with minimal cooked spices or even missing ingredients such as- hing (asofoedita), freshly roasted & grounded coriander seeds, cumin seeds, 7 spices garam masala and a very special load of Ghee (clarified butter) that very well went missing along with a paste of ginger, garlic and green peppers/ Thai chilli). This specific saag paneer was simply a boiled soup version of original North Indian saag paneer!!! 😳 North Indian food has very very specific ingredients and can lift taste Bud or can smoothly unload your taste easily if cooked with such disappointments! Now I also happened to include onion chilli uttapam which truly got me to thinking is this a loaded half cooked pancake or something that could be ‘chef’s failure experiment version’. Uttapam was half inch thick battered crepe that wasn’t fermented well since batter was raw evenly. Served with very small portion of tasteless cold sambhar along with 2 okay chutneys. Our next and final order was gongura biryani which was as plain as it could be.. below mild! Meaning missing the most important ingredient of table spoon load of gongura masala along with many raw biryani spices such as cloves, bay leaves, green and black cardamom, anis star seeds, cinnamon, rose/kewra water etc!!! It could be scarcity of ingredients at the restaurant or something, honestly I’m completely unsure as to why food was below average!!! South Indian dishes were no where near to any South Indian cooking and North Indian dishes were equally tasteless. India is a versatile land full of regional taste that has to be respected and honored with specific ingredients. Locals at large are not introduced to such elaborate flavors which is understandable but that shouldn’t restrict the chef & the restaurant from boldly introducing these original cooking styles to allow people to these ‘new’ & mesmerizing Indian aroma!! Apart from ambience, FOOD must be the ONLY priority to retain guest for this place atm. Until that happens this place is OFF my list completely. Chef definitely needs to get outta their cape & management must uptight the kitchen. - kindly accept this constructive feedback from an Indian...
Read moreWe used to like this place. Unfortunately we had a bad experience with the management. Whenever we used to order food they asked us to order a spice level from 1 to 6. Today I made an online order and I wrote in my comments to make it “spicy 3/6”. When we got the food it was so spicy that we could not even eat it. When we called to complain, instead of apologizing for their error the person on the end started telling me in a accusatory tone that we should’ve been more careful and specifically mentioned “mild, medium or spicy.” He also said something to the effect of “If that’s what you order, that’s what you will get. What do you want me to do”. They also wanted us to drive to the store to pick up a replacement (but only for the dish that we did not try, and refused to make any accommodation for the food that we had partially eaten). I understand sometimes there can be misunderstandings but this utter lack of care for customers says a lot about a place. You can guess how much care they put into their work when they prepare the food for their customers.
We have been loyal customers going there every week. We are really disappointed with such poor customer service and will definitely never go back again. They have lost a loyal customer. Please be careful if you are thinking of spending your hard earned money there. There are other great Indian food Restaurants in Mobile.
Of note I was with my Indian friends and even they...
Read moreGreat experience. Went twice in 2 days. The first, I had butter chicken. Without a doubt the BEST I have ever had. I live out of state so I am sad that I will probably never get to have it again. The second day was a New Year celebration buffet. It was a fun atmosphere. Let me again throw huge praise on the buffet. The quality and flavor of the buffet was JUST as good as the ordered food the previous day. They even had butter chicken. Most buffets do not include it as it is a more expensive dish. Again, everything I tried was full of flavor. I usually don't like goat curry, but I tried it, and it was excellent. I can't praise the food enough. I have one slight negative. The non buffet day it did take a little longer to get my food, but that also let me know my food was fresh and hadn't been made 8 hours ago and reheated. The staff was friendly. Especially the older gentleman. I assume he was the owner. He was so friendly. Thanked us for coming and thanked us for coming back when we came for the New Year celebration. I wish I had gotten his name so I could give him specific praise. All in all I highly recommend Biryani Pot. Please have some...
