Tierney's Tavern — Restaurant in Montclair

I almost don't want to review Tierney's because we don't need more people finding out about it. Tierney's is everything you want in a local pub. Great mix of people, often have great entertainment in the upstairs room and is the kind of place you can bring the entire family to. You'll often see kids in there before the crowd turns over in the evening to an all adult crowd. If you're going to meet a friend for a drink, Tierney's is the place to go.

The bar has been in the family for generations and is currently being run by two sisters in the clan. They're doing a great job. The food is great but it's basic pub grub. They make a great burger and the "Buddy Burger" is a local favorite that is not on the menu, you have to ask for it. Personally, I'm addicted to their Philly cheesesteaks. They also pour the best Guinness in the tri-state area.

Tierney's is a Montclair institution and everyone who's been in Montclair or the general area for any amount of time has fond memories of Tierney's. I googled local bars in the area and this establishment came up. i walked in and immediately felt this unwelcoming vibe. i got to the bar because all the seats were taken but bar space was open. i stood there and the bartender came up with a nasty attitude. this guy must’ve had a bad day. he was very unpleasant to deal with. absolutely no hospitality or bartender etiquette and no type of basic customer service. he had an attitude when i asked about apple pay and was getting frustrated. don’t offer the service if your bartenders don’t know to use it. i was looking to order food but no one came to me. others were being attended to ,i felt somewhat labeled as a man of color but that’s a feeling based on the environment. i know one thing i don’t ever beg for service, i tip very well, i am always bringing people to small businesses to support. this place is where i will not be retuning . lastly no matter how much of a bad day you are having as an employee you always wanna make sure that you smile and keep that attitude...

Came to Tierney's for a Matt and Mattingly's Ice Cream Social event, and I was blown away by everything. The place has this nice homey feel to it, and the staff are all super attentive and friendly.

The food is out of this world. I ordered a simple cheeseburger, fries and onion rings, and holy moly. The burger melted in my mouth it was so tender and juicy, and the fries and onion rings were hot and crispy.

The bar is fully stocked with Pepsi on tap and tons of alcohol, and the upstairs room is large enough to entertain dozens comfortably. There's a massive rugby trophy display downstairs, and if you're keen enough, you can find a humble Star Wars display as well.

All in all, Tierney's Tavern is an amazing place to grab a drink with friends or bring the family for some food. I live in Philly, but will definitely be making the trip back to Montclair as often as I can. Even bought one of their...
