A seriously overrated restaurant that cashes in on it's hype but serves extremely poor flavored and poor quality food.
We ordered the House Special Prawn (it's the same flare their house special crab gets except that it's shrimp...and it doesn't cost $30, it's around$11) Yeah, we were not impressed sorry every body. The fact that it's deep fried with eye drooling crunchy garlic on it doesn't help. The batter they use doesn't add any flavor. It's basically crunchy oil with garlic. It's not like eating tempura that is actually really good or other fried dishes that you've might had in the past. This really doesn't offer anything to your palette. The pictures are more appealing to look at than the actual taste unfortunately. If you just want to taste oil and garlic (you can't even taste the shrimp) you might enjoy this.
The other popular dish you'll see on most tables in the Tofu and Bean Curd. Again, it looks more appealing in the pictures than the actual dish. Which is depressing because you'd expect it to be exploding with flavor from the soft tofu, mushrooms, broccoli, peas, and a eyeball pleasing sauce but you can't taste any of that. It's a one note dish with no complexity to it. Very sad. It's just all texture which is sauce with no flavor.
Next up was the House Special Pork Ribs. The sauce is a light sweet and sour type sauce but it taste like they bought a jar of it from 99 Ranch. It tasted pre-store bought and not home made. The meat pieces were good but annoying to eat. They are chopped in in small chunks with random bone and knuckle bits in every piece. It's complicated to eat. They're not big enough to easily eat around the bone and cut too small so the only way to really get the meat off is to put the whole thing in your mouth and hope you don't chip a tooth. Not impressed.
The ONLY thing we got that we were impressed with was the House Special Fried rice. This was the only show stopper that we both stopped and said "This is some DAMN fine fried rice" It has bits of crab meat and crab flavoring throughout the rice and it's cooked with egg whites. There was tons of flavor, this really is the only thing worth getting here.
What made the meal worse was the fact that everything is over priced. Most all of the plates are $11-$18. Our bill at the end of the meal for 4 dishes was close to $60. Not worth it. For the lack of quality in the food and the over inflated price this place is really not worth your money.
If you want a better quality meal and better bang for your buck I would recommend going to Elite Restaurant in Monterey Park instead. You'll be much...
Read moreHaven’t been here in a long while and kinda forgot about it. But my parents wanted to go specifically for some garlic crab. And it did not disappoint! One of the better Cantonese style Chinese restaurants in the SGV! I would absolutely come more often now. Whoever cooked on 8/15 dinner time, chefs kiss.
Garlic crab was delicious. Although crab is so tedious to eat like this, it was really good. Beef filet cubes were super flavorful and so tender. Not chewy at all like other Chinese restaurants make it. The lobster was my favorite. Black pepper seasoning was not too overpowering and the basil added such a nice aroma. Green beans were amazing. Perfect amount of wok char flavor and spice. Salt and pepper squid was fried perfectly, not chewy or tough at all. Clams were tasty but for this one you gotta enjoy bittermelon. If you don’t, stick with the clams and black bean sauce. Fried tofu was good, soy sauce with it just needed some chili. Beef chow fun was delicious, you can taste the wok char, noodles were perfect texture, we said no bean sprouts so they kindly added Chinese broccoli for us. The fried rice was good but lacking on something. I would definitely try a different fried rice next time.
Service - keeping in mind it’s a Chinese restaurant, they were still sooooo nice! Attentive with tea and switching plates. Food came out quick. They brought napkins and checked on us. We enjoyed our dining experience.
Parking - free small lot in this little plaza. Didn’t have an issue with parking at all. I’m sure if they got busy, parking might be a smidge difficult. But we had no issues...
Read moreTop tier Chinese restaurant with excellent consistency. I’ve visited this restaurant twice now, and both times every dish has been amazing (except for fish pot). The house special crab is delicious though difficult to eat. The fried cod is wonderful as well. It’s very crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. Best fried fish I’ve had. Squab was interesting to try. Flavor and texture were both pretty good, but not worth the price in my opinion due to the small portion and similarity to duck/chicken. Mushroom beef stir fry is a hidden gem in this restaurant. It’s not featured as a house special in the images on the walls, but achieves restaurant level stir fry with its glistening and tender mushrooms, flavorful beef, without excess oil/grease underneath. A dish very difficult to make at home. The string beans also exceed expectations; they have just the right consistency with the outer layer of skin slightly wrinkling, but a cooked crunchy interior. Friendly suggestion to this restaurant would be to consider making a house special fried fish! The fish was quite good but I don’t like the sweet and sour sauce it came with, and I think it could be improved by adding the fried garlic bits that are the hallmark of a bi Feng tang dish. Would love this place even more with a bi Feng tang fish!
Service was also great. Plates were switched out frequently because we were eating the crab, and when I dropped a chopstick someone noticed immediately and brought me a new pair....
