Disappointing Experience at the Italian Deli
Rating: āā (2 out of 5 stars)
My recent visit to the Italian deli on Monterey left much to be desired. Despite the excellent quality of the food, the experience was marred by significant shortcomings that overshadowed the positives.
To begin with, the food itself was undeniably delicious. The deli's dedication to creating carefully generated sandwiches was evident, and each bite was a testament to their culinary expertise. It's evident that they take pride in their craft, and for that, they deserve recognition.
However, the positives quickly faded when it came to the service. Firstly, the pricing was exorbitant, leaving me with the impression that I was being overcharged. The "build your own" option, which initially seemed appealing, turned out to be an expensive endeavor. The additional charges for spreads and veggies felt excessive, especially since I was unknowingly charged twice for the same items.
Adding insult to injury, the wait time for my sandwich was significantly longer than initially promised. I was told it would take 15 minutes, but I ended up waiting for a frustrating 35 minutes. Such a delay is unacceptable, especially considering the relatively simple nature of a sandwich order. The lack of efficiency and communication in this regard was disappointing.
Overall, while the Italian deli on Monterey showcased culinary prowess with their excellent food, the shortcomings in service overshadowed the experience. The unclear pricing structure, excessive charges, and substantial delay in receiving my order left me feeling dissatisfied and frustrated.
Regrettably, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this deli based on my experience. However, tastes and experiences may differ, so it's worth considering other opinions before making a judgment. I hope the deli takes customer feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements to enhance their service quality and customer satisfaction.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuper friendly Italian deli, located within steps of Monterey Bay aquarium. This is the perfect spot to stop before or after your visit to the aquarium. The sandwiches and sides are delicious, they have beer and wine, and very limited seating.
This deli has a selection of several custom sandwiches or you can make your sandwich. The particular sandwich that we got was great. The meats were high quality and everything was fresh. You can also order sides that are made already, they have fresh potato chips, and a selection of drinks, such as beer, wine, juice, and seltzers.
The service here was ultra friendly as well. The server was super nice despite this being a busy location. We had a sandwich in less than five minutes and it was made perfectly. Everyone had a friendly demeanor, and it was very welcoming.
There is only two or three tables outside, and no seating inside, so this is more of a grab and go spot before or after you go to the aquarium. What we did is we came to the aquarium around 12 and ate here before and then went in afterwards so that we didnāt have the morning crowd and got to explore while everyone was eating.
Definitely a good spot. If youāre looking for something quick and donāt want to go to any of the fancy restaurants in the area, prices were fair and it was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCan't believe the bad reviews on here. We visited back in July as part of a 2 week Cali road trip from the UK and this is still a highlight of the whole trip that we're talking about. "Best sandwich in America" was the verdict as we drove down 17 Mile Drive eating and taking in the views! We were hoping to grab and go, so were a bit disappointed at having to wait 20 minutes or so, but the fact that this was the case was clear and well advertised and sitting outside watching the world go by isn't the worst way to wait. Staff brought the order out when it was ready, pretty much bang on the time they said it would. Food was worth the wait and the wait means that you know heart and soul is...
