Great Wall Szechuan and Mandarin Cuisine — Restaurant in Monterey

So, I went here with a group of my friends and we were celebrating a bachelor party. This review is a mixed bag because when our group got there, the service was actually really great! The young gentleman who was helping out was really polite, helpful, guided us through the menu and gave us excellent recommendations!

We wanted to leave our waiter a tip, however, the service went south towards the end of our time there. This is not the fault of the gentleman who was helping us in the beginning but actually the fault of a DIFFERENT waiter who brought us our checks at the end.

He asked us what we were doing there and we explained we were just celebrating our friend. To our horror, this guy went on a whole monologue detailing his own highly inappropriate experience with a bachelor trip. He started talking about how he used substances on a bachelor trip that he was on and about women (specifically mentioning very work-inappropriate things). We told him we weren’t about that life, and his whole demeanor changed.

People got different work cultures so, we all laughed it off awkwardly. We would have just led it slide, however, this changed when we got our checks. This second waiter ended up mixing all of our cards and charging us on the wrong accounts. I ended up paying for one of my friends and they ended up paying for mines. So it was frustrating at just that, but on TOP OF THAT, they actually ended up charging one of our cards TWICE, which we now have to go to our bank to dispute.

I have no idea if this guy did this on purpose to ruin our evening but it left us with a very garbage experience to what would have otherwise been a great evening. Saying inappropriate and appalling things in the workplace is diabolical in it of itself, however, illustrating such incompetence on this level, shows that this man is unfit for his position and did not deserve any tip whatsoever.

If the first gentleman happens to read this, thank you for being such a great waiter. We apologize, we wanted to tip you directly but had no cash and unfortunately had to put 0 on our checks because we did not want a single dollar going to this second waiter who left us with such a foul taste in our mouths from this...

Amazing menu options, everything from Sizzling Rice Soup to Rainbow Duck. Customer Service is wonderful! Whenever myself or my husband calls in to order the person on the other line is kind, patient, willing to explain the menu options and is very articulate. Delivery service is great! We recently moved out to Seaside, CA so we have to drive in to town to pick up our order but it is well worth it. THE FOOD: -Soups: super flavorful, packed to the max with all the goodies that go into that particular soup and always super hot. Even after a 20 min drive the soup is awesomely hot. -Beef, Chicken, Duck, Seafood, and Vegetable dishes could not be better. They are perfect! Great quality. Each dish is handled with care, perfectly cook, seasoned and always nice and hot! -Noodles or Rice: In love with their chow mien! Noodles cooked to perfection and well seasoned! The rice is an awesome way to go as well. So many options with both noodles and rice. I have not tried them all but from what I have had, it hits the spot every time. -Appetizers: I love all the apps here but you get SO much food with your orders that you may want to hold on the apps or just order apps and that is all.

These are what I have experienced with this restaurant and I fully enjoyed every last morsel. Do not waste your time deciding, just go or call to order. Their website is great, could use some sprucing up.

If there is 0 star, I will give to it. I don’t normally write reviews but there is a Asian man who maybe the owner or manger that is so rude. We have a 3 year old coming in for dinner before 6pm. I told the waitress that my son is hungry and needs the food early. The waitress was kind and gives him a egg soup but my son don’t want any of it. We did not get our food till 7pm. My son is so upset and begin crying after waiting for so long. So my husband took my son out and I went front to check what’s the situation since there are so many people come after us for take out that was able to get there food.
