First time dining at Casa Azteca and we were pleasantly surprised. The outside looked somewhat like a chain restaurant; however, the inside feels like an infusion of a metropolitan New York City bar, humble courtyard in Jalisco, Mexico coupled with modern menus, table lights, and ambiance.
The prices seem a little higher at first, but the serving size, quality, and ambiance makes up for the difference. I ordered the Carne Asada (Marinaded Steak) and Camarōnes (Shrimp) and my wife ordered Shrimp Fajitas. Her shrimp were large and my carne asada could be cut with a butter knife. Both were very flavorful as well as the rice and beans.
For drinks we had a Dos XX Lager with a lime and a Piña Colata. My wife claims it was the best Piña Colata she has ever had and trust me she has had a few over the years. The drinks are somewhat affordable although they have a look and quality of a $35 cocktail from a high end bar. The cotton candy martini has my curiosity for next time.
We had no business having desert since we couldn’t finish our meals due to the larger serving size, but we decided to indulge. We had the Flan and the Fried Ice Cream both excellent.
The ambiance was nice. Mexican and flamenco music played in the background and we recognized modern cover songs played in the Mexican genre. The lights were dim however, the menus had a pleasant backlighting so us old guys don’t have to bring out the iPhone spotlight to see what we are ordering. The small table lights provide a romantic glow which adds to the experience.
We sat in the middle section which gives an outside courtyard feel, but you can sit in a separate room or along the outside perimeter in booth seating for a more isolated feel.
If you have a birthday, they have a great way of celebrating it with you and I will leave the surprise for you without spoiling the experience.
If you would like to save some money, they have $2.50 tacos for Taco Tuesday and specials Monday thru Friday including Ladies Night ($5.00 wine, tequila and special drinks which the price is also for the boys)
I want to give a special shout out to our server Marie Paula who did an excellent job and Kevin Arias, the General Manager, who was a big part of setting up Casa Azteca and customizing the experience.

Read moreLet me start by being honest,.I'm not big on Mexican food.
However........Casa Azteca absolutely blew my mind. When the wife and I walked in, we were immediately created by two beautiful young ladies with smiles that, I swear, were genuine. We were seated with thirty seconds. Our server, Enrique was at our table within 30 seconds and he took our drink orders. The drinks were at the table in UNDER A MINUTE!!!! And the place is packed....I'm used to waiting ten minutes for my drink.....super impressed! Enrique took our orders as he dropped off the drinks.....now here's the part where my brain exploded....I ordered the rib steak, rare, the wife ordered tilapia tacos. Our food was on the table in under five minutes....how is that possible? I forgot to mention, before the food came, a capable young lady came out and made fresh guacamole for us....the corn nacho chips went amazing with this!
I was a butcher for 28 years...so I know what good steak is, at 36 bucks, this rib eye was better than most $150 steaks I've had. You have no idea how impressed I am with the folks in The kitchen. Justine, the manager came out to see how we were doing...he said they don't get many orders for the steak. How can that be? At 36 bucks, this steak is the best deal in town.
I'm not sure what else I can say. All's I know is, if you're in Mooresville, Casa Azteca is a must! ...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a real Mexican restaurant, do yourself a favor and keep driving. This place is less about the food and more about the Instagram aesthetic—neon signs, overpriced cocktails in tacky glassware, and music blasting so loud you have to shout just to order a taco. It feels like they designed it for influencers, not actual diners.
The menu is ridiculously over the top. They serve “elevated” versions of Mexican classics that nobody asked for, like birria tacos with edible gold and margaritas that come in massive goblets with sparklers. You can tell they care more about presentation than quality because everything looks great for photos but tastes mediocre at best. My tacos were drowning in sauce, and the meat was bland—like they forgot seasoning exists.
Service? A total mess. Our server was more interested in flirting with the bartender than refilling drinks, and it took 45 minutes just to get queso. By the time our entrées arrived, they were lukewarm, and the check took another eternity to come.
Also, why is this place in North Carolina? It belongs in Miami with all the overpriced, style-over-substance spots catering to people who just want to flex on social media. NC has real Mexican food, and this is not it. If you care more about good food than taking selfies, skip this place.
