Tony and I were in Morgantown, we were excited about trying out D. P. Dough. This was a first time for us. It's located on High Street beside Subway and across from Jimmy John's, which is a great location especially for the late night bar scene. Unfortunately hard for parking, but I lucked out and grabbed my go to spot (when in area) around on side street.
Now I'm not sure if still due to Covid or from lack of staffing, but it was NOT A WELCOMING SITE...all the seats on top of tables and out of order signs on bathrooms and cable disconnected from wall mounted TVs...looks deserted, but I can imagine how nice it once was! Not now!!!
Only one employee! Now this is one of those opens at 4pm and stays open very late to 3am. They even advertise "Delivering Crazy Late". There was a hiring delivery drivers sign awkwardly written on chalkboard behind counter. To be truthful, I would normally walk away from all this Negative space BUT I really wanted to try...we love Calzones!
Tony and I read the overhead menu board. I told the employee (very helpful and pleasant)we were newbies. He showed us the size of the Calzones and we debated one or two...we opted on 2..he chose the Mountaineer Zone add Banana Peppers and put marinara sauce inside. I opted for the Italian Zone add Banana Peppers and marinara sauce on side. It was only a 10 minute wait and the total was $20.50
Tony went out to smoke while I waited. He brought me the package once completed and we left. Street meter parking was only $1 for one hour.
We went back to our home away from home, La Quinta Inn and Suites. Tony went for Ice while I separated the Calzones. We had decided to split them so we could try 2 different zones.
Okay, trying to be positive but they looked horrible. The dough was very thin. I've never had such a thin Zone before (but never had theirs before). There wasn't much toppings inside...barely any cheese and I paid extra for Tony's to have sauce inside which it didn't...thank goodness we had some on the side so Tony could add himself.
Mine was supposed to have Ricotta cheese added to Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses and there was NONE. Barely any mozzarella. The dipping marinara sauce was watered down and barely any pepperoni or other meats in there.
I felt like I paid WAY TO MUCH for this extremely disappointing much anticipated Calzone Dinner. I will NOT do this again...we left over half untouched in both boxes....ended up pulling out toppings to try and eat. This poorly constructed very thin Calzone bread was even burnt and hard....very disappointed!!
I am only sharing our experience and my opinion on this restaurant. Hopefully your experience is much better than ours! Personally...
Read moreSo, we ordered from here about a week ago. I have been debating on leaving a review. We didn't really have a great experience, but the food wasn't bad. So I struggled with how to leave this. The background (its a bit long), we ordered online. Estimated delivery was about an hour. We weren't thrilled, but we continued with the order, because we weren't starving and that was pretty close to the average on that day, at that time (doordash included). So the problems came when after an hour we still didn't hear anything. Around 1.15 we called the restaurant to check on the order, which is when we were informed they didn't actually have a delivery driver that night and were waiting on a third party. Long story short, we went to pick it up the food ourselves. The store said they remade the food, bc it had been sitting for so long. Which was most likely true about the calzones, probably not true about the rest of the order. It took (included drive time to and from the restaurant) closer to 2 hours to get out food. I truly am not upset about the experience, things happen. But I really struggle with why the restaurant didn't just call us as soon as they received the order, when they knew they didn't have a delivery drive that night. They should have been honest and given us an opportunity to adjust our plans. We could have came to pick it up ourselves, or just canceled the order before we (us and the restaurant) wasted so much time. But I did like my Calzone, the dough was as good as the...
Read moreOur company decided to order takeout today for lunch, and DP Dough was selected. We all either called in orders or ordered online. My order was submitted at 11:07 am, right after opening. I got an immediate email response stating that delivery would be approximately 11:52. Since several of us ordered, I assumed it would be later. 11:52 came and went. 12, 12:15, 12:30 came and went. The driver showed up around 12:45 with only a few bags of food in hand, it didn't look good for the home team. The folks at our office who called their orders in received food, while everyone who submitted online did not. The driver left, we didn't get much information, was our food on the way?, did the order get lost?, were our orders being refunded? nothing to go on. No follow up emails/calls came in. I called in to see what was going on. The gentleman that answered the phone was apologetic, and did state that they were refunding our orders. How were we to know this without making the effort to find out? A little courtesy goes a long way in cases like this, we would've appreciated a follow-up call to let us know what was going on. I may try this place out eventually (in the restaurant), but will never attempt the online...
