Service: 2 stars. I agreed with other reviewers that service is not great. We were served by this waitress with no smile and cold attitude. I asked for hot tea and she said we needed to pay for it (normally you don't pay for hot tea in a Japanese or Chinese restaurant just like you don't pay for small appetizers at Korean restaurants). I found it's appalling in a Japanese restaurant that's run by Chinese doesn't offer hot tea to their customers. She didn't ask how our food were until we finished. I found her cold attitude such turn off. Food: 4 stars. octopus Wasabi (raw slimy octopus with Wasabi flavor, most of it were untouched). I think it's very authentic Japanese dish. I ordered it by mistake because I thought it would be like the sliced octopus in vinegar and sugar (tako su) with Wasabi flavor. shrimp tempura (normally it comes with vegetables tempura but they only have 4 shrimps on the plate). It's well cooked. chicken bowl, nothing special about this dish. My daughter only finished half of it. I took a bite of the chicken, didn't want to take another bite. spicy fried tofu, just normal hard tofu marinated in spicy sauce, the fried. Nothing special, you can pass this one. short rib udon, MUST TRY DISH. I think I had best Udon in this restaurant. I don't know if they made the udon themselves. It's not round like the one you usually eat in a Japanese restaurant. It's a bit flat with chewy bite to it. It blew my mind. Originally I was worried short rib might be too fatty for me, but it turned out the short rib was perfectly marinated and cooked, it's not fat at all. Highly recommend this dish. miso Ramen, hubby has...
Read moreI ordered 2 rolls a poke bowl and some curry chicken. I had high expectations because the prices were high.
Spicy tuna is $6-7 dollars around now but for $10.50 it should be freshly made. This was clearly the pre-mixed mechanically separated tuna with soggy tempura flakes and chiracha sauce. The yellowtail jalapeno for $10.25 was not much better. The roll was falling apart, the fish had no flavor and even the rice seemed bland. The poke bowl had a nice assortment of soybeans, cucumber, seaweed salad (store bought), tuna and salmon. Its had to describe but the salmon felt pre-frozen. I get fresh salmon at Metropolitan Seafood, the color and taste are so different. The good salmon is like eating butter.... The wife didn't like the curry chicken, she actually grabbed a box of S&B Golden Curry ($2.92) and mixed it into the restaurants dish ($22) to make it...
Read moreI have spent a fair bit of time in Tokyo so I typically avoid US sushi restaurants. I've eaten in all the Morristown offerings having been here for 10+ years. So this was our first visit even though they have been open for a while - we thoroughly enjoyed our food and would recommend a visit.
I have rated this as a 4 for food based on local/NJ offerings.
I had the fatty salmon, salmon, eel and mackerel sushi. They were very good and certainly the best I've had in Morristown.
My wife had the spicy crispy tofu to start, and the vegetable ramen - I tried both and they were also very good. The ramen is much better than Let's noodle opposite.
The staff were excellent.
They have semi-communal tables depending on your party size which I do not like. If you are a party of 2, it is likely you will be...
