Came here for Valentine's day. We originally picked this place, as it seemed worth the price. After looking at the menu online, it looked like we would pay somewhere between $80-$100 per person. The first thing we were greeted with upon sitting down was a menu with an upcharged price of $150 per person. The food really better be worth it for a price like this. It wasn't. The foie gras was unexpectedly cooked. A bold choice. While the taste combination with the curry was interesting, it was marred by the unpleasant chewiness of the foie gras, which left an oily aftertaste. Online, this is priced at $35, but at this upcharged price, it was $50 The filet mignon was alright, not outstanding. The seafood pasta was the most disappointing. The scallops were rubbery, the dish overall was bland, and the sauce was basically water. Finally the dessert came out. A run-of-the-mill brownie with a chocolate dipped strawberry and an ok macaron. $50 for a brownie, really?? The food was disappointing.

The decor was beautiful, the building is marvelous.

The waiter was very kind. However, there were too many waiters running around. There was constant traffic around our table, and some waiters just stood next to our table chatting loudly.

The live pianist would have be a nice touch if only he didn't pause for 20 minutes after playing two pieces.

This place did not make a good first impression. Definitely not worth the almost $500 tab for a two person dinner!!...

Horrible experience on Valentine’s Day. Booked this special dinner with my wife about one month prior. Confirmed the night before because we were excited and knew how busy so wanted to make sure. We spent time reviewing the menu online and knew exactly what we wanted to try. When we arrived (20 min early to our reservations) we were immediately seated. We were handed the menus and to our SHOCK we discovered the fixed price menu of $150 PER PERSON! it was exactly the same menu online which advertised prices 1/4 to 1/3 of that cost. AT NO POINT did anyone advise us of this price for the dinner ahead of time. We were extremely disappointed because this is just common courtesy and very deceiving. I know it’s Valentine’s Day but you must advise customers of the cost and it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Suffice to say despite the fact that we could have paid, we felt betrayed and it’s about the the principle of the matter… so we left (especially since we asked and they said they wouldn’t make any concessions). It ruined our night but fortunately we found a better restaurant at a fraction...

Lovely quiet restaurant. Very crowded. Much older crowd. Food was good. We were in a difficult table where the hurried waiters kept hitting our chairs. The wine was exceptional. The wait staff are very attentive. The owner is on hand greeting all the tables. Walter was very kind on the phone and just as sweet in person. He moved us from in front of the piano to the main dining room area for a quieter table. I love that all the tables have white or pink tablecloths. The carpeting also helps absorb the sound and make for a quieter ambiance. I know people got more casual after the lockdown with their attire but we got dressed up to go to the restaurant, yet other older patrons came in jeans. Very disappointing when people don't dress up for a nice restaurant. I had the bronzino. My husband had the dover sole. Our son had the tuna. Our daughter in law had the pork chop. We shared the lobster salad. Our waiter messed up our order of birthday souffle for our son, but kindly took the charge off our bill. Our son ordered chocolate, but the waiter brought the Grand Marnier souffle instead, which...

I can't imagine a better place to have a party. My wife threw me an amazing surprise birthday party a few years ago at The Grand Cafe and we absolutely had the best experience. Fast forward to now, and it's my turn to throw a birthday party for her. Despite wanting to do something completely different just to mix things up we chose The Grand Cafe again and are very glad that we did. The food is delicious, and they have a BEAUTIFUL party room upstairs that is split into a bar area and a dining area. It's so much fun having the cocktail hour (with delicious passed appetizers) in one room and dinner in the other. And they let us decorate and personalize the space. We had 35 guests and they all had the best time. The food, the space, and the staff were all amazing. But Walter, who I dealt with for planning the party was even more than that. He was so easy to work with, so accommodating, and so on top of all of the small, important details, such a pleasure to deal with. If you're looking to have a private party event in Morris County at a wonderful venue you simply can't go wrong with The Grand Cafe.

We have been meaning to try The Grand Cafe for a while now, as this restaurant has come highly recommended to us by our local friends…The Grand Cafe certainly did NOT disappoint for our first dining experience. Our patio dinner for a party of 4 was thoroughly enjoyed on a summer evening: the food & cocktails were great, and the waitstaff was very accommodating & offered excellent service (& accommodations for the small infant in our family). The owner and his daughter came by to personally check-in on us to see how we were enjoying our dining experience; we appreciated this old-fashioned, traditional gesture and felt welcomed like family! I highly recommend this local gem that’s been in Morristown for 40+ years!
