This is very hard for me to write as I usually do not leave a review unless I can leave a positive five star review. However, what happened needs to be said. I’ve been a resident of Morro Bay for over 17 years. Never, have I been treated the way I was in a business before. My sisters were here from out of state on a sister trip. I took them to Gilligan’s for a sandwich. My sister ordered a vegetarian sandwich. After waiting 15 minutes, and that is no joke, get it, it finally arrived. My sister, halfway through half of the sandwich realized it did not have avocado on it. So, I took it to, the counter, there were three women working. After about five minutes of standing at the counter, the girl taking orders, asked what I needed. I proceeded to tell her that the sandwich had no avocado on it. She told me it would take a while before they could do anything about it. So I requested my money back. Five more minutes waiting at the counter, she finally looked at me and said, what do you want me to do and I said, can we just get my money back. She went back and told the lady, about three minutes later the lady came out angry! She asked me what I wanted. I told her again for the second time, what I wanted. She opened of the sandwich, ran her finger through the sandwich mind you no glove, and told me there was plenty of avocado wrapped it up and pushed it back at me. She then started to walk away. I said to her, ma’am I am not going to eat a sandwich after you just rubbed your finger through it. She yelled with the place full of people waiting for their food and said too bad. I said please just give me my money back. At which time she open the register, threw six dollars at me ( the sandwich cost $12 but because 1/2 was eaten that was fine) then started yelling that, that was all I wanted. I was appalled , turned to her and told her I would not tell anyone about her restaurant, nor would I be back. As I’m walking out the door, still yelling, she’s telling the whole entire restaurant all I wanted was my money back. I have never in 17 years of living in Morro Bay been treated this way. To think none of this would’ve happened had she just treated the buying customer with respect. On top of it all, she was the owner. I have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. Never, never have I seen anyone treat customers the way this place did. Like I said, I don’t like leaving reviews that aren’t five stars. If I can’t leave something positive. I won’t leave anything at all. But this needs...
Read moreFirst time eating here. Four stars for Gilligan's clean, fairly spacious place, for the prompt service and good fountain drinks, but .... my companion and I each ordered a roast beef dip sandwich (French dip) and we both couldn't finish it, not because it was too large (it was generously sized) but because it was one of the worst sandwiches either of us have ever eaten. I do NOT say that lightly. I actually hate making negative reviews, but it is the chance for Gilligan's to revisit this particular sandwich and make it better. So what was wrong? The Dutch crunch roll was tasty, but the thin-sliced beef was mostly gristle, somewhat undercooked and laced with stringy fat (stringy onions, too) that my companion choked on. I simply couldn't chew through it and had to spit out some of it. The extra tangy, strong Swiss cheese over-powered everything and the au jus tasted like basic beef-cube broth. We ate a little less than half the sandiwch and tossed the rest. Neither of us had ever eaten here before so the other sandwiches may have been fantastic (judging from the reviews). WIsh we'd tried something else yet hope Gilligan's will work to improve its roast beef dip sandwich. Maybe it was a one-off. That said, $38 for two combo meals means we probably won't be back to give it...
Read moreThis is a great sandwich, at a decent price, with great staff. It gives off the beloved nibble nook nostalgia of finding that delicious perfect sandwich vibes. 🥪 a good joint to check out. I think it is ownership. I see everything I go in, but she is supper friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is friendly and light. My only thing is it seems sparsely decorated, which, i know... so nitpicky. Please visit this place. I just thought it could do with some hometown touches. Maybe pictures of local well-known spots on the walls, like the 'Hidden Treasures of Morro Bay'. You could have one of the farmers market, one of the sacred chapel. A picture of pirate Steve. You could have a contest and have us submit pictures of our favorite spots and the winner could get a free sandwich and the rest chosen could get a 40 percent off ticket. OK, I have gone to far.... anyways great...
