Best croissants in Morro Bay - hands down!! And the lemon bars are so good I think I cried a little...
Coffee is passable - not amazing but not terrible. (I never order specialty drinks as I used to be a barista and know what a pain it is to pull espresso and steam milk, and what a pain it is to do it all quickly). The dog treats make my dog drool and he is welcome to come inside and hang out with me.
The baked goods are why I come - that and the dog friendly environment.
The icing on the cake however is the staff and owners. The young people who work behind the counter are ALL stellar! Genuinely friendly and always so helpful. Unfortunately the register is not set up to allow for tipping on credit cards so these rockstar baristas are probably getting only a small percentage of the tips they should (most folks don’t carry cash these days), but I say that not to rag on the owners but to encourage people reading this to BRING CASH to tip those kids! I understand being stuck in the last millennium and not using Square card readers for your business (as this is my struggle too in life!).
Speaking of the owners... one day a VERY creepy man was harassing me and my dog in the cafe. It was pretty awful and I asked the barista to get the owner from the back. Adam came out and asked what was wrong. I told him and he IMMEDIATELY went over to ask the man to leave. He was not dramatic or angry about it - but he made it clear that the man had to go. The man refused and tried to argue. Adam calmly but firmly insisted. The man left but then hovered around, standing outside close to where I was seated inside, openly staring at me through the window. At this point I’m crying and Adam went outside and handled it and even called the police. He talked to the police so I wouldn’t be further traumatized then he came over to make sure I was ok. It was the most heroic I’d seen anyone be on my behalf and I was touched.
These guys genuinely care about their customers and the baked goods are outstanding. Whether you’re a local looking for a place that feels like home, or someone passing through looking for some great croissants, stop by Sun-N-Buns! You’ll be...
Read moreVisiting friends from out of town, my family and I rented a house not far from the Bay. My mom, sister, and I decided to walk down to the bay in the late afternoon and get a treat since we were on vacation and it was a little chilly outside. We ordered some turnovers, a regular coffee, a small mocha, and a small chai. The total was about $20. We were the only customers in the place and it took the two girls forever to make our drinks. After my mom and sister had their coffee and mocha, it took another 5 minutes for them to make my chai. The girls were just chit-chatting behind the counter and didn't even apologize for it taking so long. After we finally had everything, we went outside to sip our hot drinks by the water. We bit into our turnovers and they were stale and seemed like they were filled with just regular super-sweet jam. We couldn't even eat them. Oh well, at least we had our warm drinks. Wrong. My chai tasted like powdered sludge mixed with sugar water (not even a normal beverage consistency). It was seriously too sweet to even drink (and I like sweet chai), I believe they must have used a powdered mix and about 10 times the normal amount to make it taste so disgusting.Worst part was it wasn't even hot enough to keep my hands warm, it was probably luke-warm at best. My mom said the coffee was nasty and we ended up throwing all $20 of food away (and we are big on not wasting food/money). I hate leaving bad reviews, but if someone else had this experience, I hope that they would tell me before I wasted my money. Maybe it was just because it was the end of the day and maybe the girls were new at working, I don't know. The place in itself was pretty cute though, if it weren't for the poor food/service. I would recommend Top Dog just a few blocks away instead. Much better for not a lot (if any at all)...
Read moreThe service alone gets a five star rating. The two little mature ladies that you get in the evening are so charming. The coffee is good. It's not out of this world but it's good. I love that if you order coffee in the morning you can come back at any point that day with your cup and get a free regular cup of coffee refill. We were here when it was very windy and cold and since it was a trip we got lattes in the morning but after surfing could get a nice warm cup of regular coffee with out breaking our bank. And let's face it hotel coffee is awful. The pasties we did have were really good. I love that there is a fire pit as well great to hang out. I will have to try the cookies next time I've heard they are amazing. But I'm not huge on sugary stuff so one treat a trip is about...
