Chilis in Mount Airy wasn’t really good.. I’ve been to quite a few other locations..From Greensboro, NC to Virginia. This one failed horribly. I brought 3 kiddos with me. 5, 7 and 10 years old. I wanted to be healthy so I ordered the Ancho salmon. Man I love some good salmon especially when it’s cooked to perfection. I’ll say this before I say anything else.. It’s easy to slip up when cooking salmon. It’s a difficult dish for some cooks because it dries out easy. You don’t want to have to drown your salmon in sauce to choke it down.. obviously that doesn’t sound too fun, which is exactly why I wouldn’t recommend Chili’s Ancho salmon. They’re not experts by any means at making seafood at Chili’s. You could get lucky with a good piece of salmon, I don’t know. However, in my humble opinion, it’s not worth the risk of getting something you might not want to finish. To top it off with a rotten cherry, the amount of salmon is paltry and leaves you wanting more. You can rank up on the rice and broccoli that comes on the side, but they are bland as boiled potatoes. While I have to confess that the Chile citrus sauce in the dish is pretty tasty, the sauce won’t save dried out seafood. My first time having it..and probably the last. The kiddos ordered chicken crispers. Chicken tenders are such a standard choice at American restaurants. It’s pretty hard to mess it up, right? Wrong! In their defense I have had them before at other locations and they were OK but not here. The breading was not crunchy or even crispy as you might expect. They were incredibly oily. The chicken was not tender. The kids didn’t even like them. They said “Don’t pay for these, these suck!” The sides.. corn on the cob and fries or Mac and cheese. The kiddos did eat the Mac and cheese and they said it was pretty good. However, the corn on the cob and fries were just simply ok. Several of the fries were over cooked. The honey mustard sauce was the saving grace for me with the chicken crispers. You’re not ordering a dish for the sauce though. We didn’t even eat half of them. I felt bad because the kids were upset about them. Service was pretty good but they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It seemed disorganized in there. The waitresses were apologetic about the food. I didn’t get charged for anything. I thought one of the waitresses was a little rude. She came by my table before we ordered drinks. The 5 and 7 year olds were seated on me, on my lap and on me. The waitress looked at them and she said “Come on guys, you want to sit across from him?” And she said “You guys don’t need to be so close to him, do you?” They just looked at her like what the heck. I told her they are fine where they are. She gave me kind of a dirty look. I don’t know what she was thinking but please don’t say that kind of stuff to customers again. I didn’t catch her name but I did briefly speak to a manager about her. They said they would have a chat with her. It might be a while before I go back to another Chili’s after...
Read moreWife and I had lunch here today; celebrating our 16th anniversary. Our server was Krista. Very polite, friendly. Definitely a AAA+++ employee. We went for our go-to choice...each of us having the 3 for me. I chose the house salad w/blue cheese dressing, chicken sandwich and a sweet tea. My wife had her usual salad w/blue cheese dressing, burger and sweet tea. The food was great as usual. We did also have a free chips and salsa, but the chips today were WAY to salty. But hey if it were game day and I was drinking beers.... It would work.... But they were free, so no harm to me. Chili's in Mt. Airy will continue to be my go-to restaurant for affordable, casual and tasty dining. Keep up the GREAT service here and you'll keep me hooked . Wife and I ad dinner here tonight. We both ordered the 3 for me..... I had the 6 oz Classic Sirloin w/garlic butter(fantastic) w/loaded mashed potatoes(to die for) and steamed broccoli(perfect), had the starter salad with blue cheese dressing and a coke for $16.99 My wife had the Old Timer burger w/cheese, lettuce, onion and toma. It included the seasoned fries (gotta love them). Also had the starter salad w/ blue cheese dressing and a sweet tea for $10.99 Our server (John) was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks always stayed full and he was prompt in getting anything we needed (ketchup, salt, pepper, etc.) Restaurant was clean and welcoming. Overall price was $29.94 before tip. A great price for a great meal, super service! Definitely will be coming down off the mountain (can't find all this in...
Read moreSo we got in the mood for some Chillis. Last couple times we went it wasn’t that great. They have changed the menu and food taste different. We figured we would get us a burger and a chicken sandwich since we have never had one from Chilli’s. We called our order in and they said it would be 25 minutes. We get there around the 25 minute mark and the wife goes in. She proceeded to have to wait another 5-7 minutes for our food. The server was in such a bad mood and it showed with her service and attitude. So we on strike one already. We finally get our food and she headed out the door. On the way home she gets a call and it was the lady from Chilli’s saying she forgot some things from our order. Not that far away yet but still strike 2. We only live 8-10 minutes depending on traffic so our food should at least be warm. We open it up and realize it was like it was sitting out in air conditioning for a good half hour. You can see the corn was a little done. But strike 3 for the temp of our food. Not expecting it to be fresh off the oven but this was ridiculous. I use to love this place and would go a couple times a week and every special occasion. Now if I go back it will be in someone else’s dime. I have never ate outside of Mt. Airy so I can’t speak for all Chilli’s but this one has gotten worse over time. I should have called the restaurant but with the ladies attitude I wasn’t looking for an argument but chalk it up as a loss...
