Cody's on 4th is a little coffee and desserts shop on 4th in the historic Mount Dora downtown. My girlfriend and I decided to give them a try for breakfast. We got there at 8:50am. A sign outside the business, which I thought was funny at the time, says "We don't serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can." Their breakfast menu is tiny, consisting primarily of breakfast sandwiches (similar to an egg mcmuffin) and quiche. Even a slow restaurant could prepare an egg mcmuffin in 10 minutes. We placed our orders at 9am, were served our beverages, seated ourselves and waited. The atmosphere seemed pleasant. A lot of people took their sandwiches or coffee to go. There were about 15 people dining in along with us. Others who placed orders when we did were also waiting. At 915am, I started to remark that they weren't kidding with the sign. By 930am, our beverages were consumed, everyone else had finally been served, but not us. Then a waiter started to clear our table and ask if we needed anything else, like we were being chased off. I said we had been waiting 30 minutes for our breakfast sandwiches and really expected to get served before we were chased off!! He instantly reddened, went into the kitchen, and about 5 minutes later, our 35 minute for breakfast was over. It cost $8 for an 35 minute egg mcmuffin and a can of Diet Coke. It was edible, but no better than McDonald's. I probably won't eat there again. Coffee drinkers did seem to enjoy their coffee, so maybe they should stick to what they are good at -- coffee -- and forget serving breakfast and lunch (they certainly forgot us). The restroom was clean but it had no paper towels for handwashing, so everyone was using toilet paper to dry their hands. At least they had toilet paper. They have some tables set up outside on the sidewalk in addition the dining inside. No parking. You have to find a public parking space on the street or in a public lot to come here by car. Cody's need to stay focused on their coffee business and stop trying to be...
Read moreI went in for breakfast. The staff was okay. Greeted me just like every other staff would on a good morning. And then when I sat down after looking at the menu I said I wanted the asiago bagel with scrambled egg. Asked if there were jalapenos and asked for pepper, jack cheese and bacon. The egg shows up over easy or something like that, and I stated to the waitress. I want my egg. Patty scrambled. She says we don't do that. We eat it this way. We serve it this way. Mike, well, that's not what I ordered.... Her body language and ways imply that I need to eat this sandwich. I stayed. I'm not going to eat this sandwich. I don't like it. Can you make it this way? Oh we don't do that here. So now I paid $5 for an apple juice out of a plastic bottle that any child could get at Walmart. And didn't get a sandwich, but three of the staff looked at me like I was a terrible person. Well not a terrible person. I came in stated what I wanted to eat and wasn't informed. Otherwise. It's all on you and I will never come back to this restaurant again or recommend it to my fellows or family. Be more attentive when you speak to your customers and clients. Very foolish and should have offered...
Read moreLooking for a place that serves fresh foods for lunch, we found a cozy local spot called Cody’s on 4th Cafe.
Although it was Tuesday, the cafe was packed. The server greeted us with a smile and invited us to the place. He sat us in the last available high top seats in the middle of the front dining room. On the walls hang vintage photos and 4th of July decorations. I guess that is why the cafe’s name has ‘4th’.
They have been in business for over 14 years. This place has a variety of sandwiches and salads. They also offer a wide variety of quiches and soups made by the owner herself.
We ordered salads and they were good for two servings. The spinach salad had bacon strips and eggs. The house honey garlic was excellent and very much garlicky. The chicken salad was excellent as well and you can taste the dill prominently. It has slices of grapes on the salad as well. This was sitting on a base of mixed greens and dressing.
Overall. I will...
