After hearing all my friends at LOMD praise the fresh food at Tony’s Clam Chowder Seafood Restaurant finally my sister and I and a friend went today for lunch. Tried a cup of their famous clam chowder first.....in one word...SUPERB!! I ordered their fresh grilled fish sandwich with homemade potato salad....omg....flaky, moist and grilled to perfection!! My sister had the “Kick’n Crab Cake” which was delicious but had a little too much “Kick” for her. Our waitress offered to get her something else but she took it home for her husband instead.....which by the way.....he loved!! Since there were three of us dining, we tried all three desserts. The coconut cake was light and airy with a fabulous moist coconut frosting. The carrot cake was moist and tasty as well......BUT if you like key lime pie....theirs is Sinfully delicious yet delicately light to the last bite!
Suggestions to the fabulous chefs
For those of us seniors who appreciate fresh crab cakes but have a sensitive digestion system, how about in addition to your “Kick’n” Crab Cakes how about adding to your menu “Kick-less” Crab Cakes?
How about adding a Fresh Lobster roll as a special sometime when Lobster is in season?
Please know that we all appreciate you keeping your menu cost effective for all your dining clients.
You truly are a welcoming asset to...
Read more2 great visits in 1 week!!! Better than any Chowder you will find in Massachusetts! While in Mount Dora I was told about a Chowder Restaurant that had an award winning recipe. After coming here, I can see why! This recipe has won the Clam Chowder competition in Providence, RI 3 years in a row. Both times I came here I had the chowder. The first time, a cup. The second time, a bowl. Both times it was amazing. I also had a skewer of grilled shrimp both times, which tasted awesome. The Golden Corn Nuggets were dusted with powder sugar. They seemed similar to a cross between the breading of a corndog and fried Oreos, but with a sweet corn center. Very affordable. A steal for the price! The atmosphere is perfect. Good music and well air conditioned. Well decorated. In terms of the staff, these are some of the best people I have met in Mount Dora. Our server, Bill, was kind, attentive, and caring about our dining experience. He checked in with us often, our drink glasses were never emptied before being replaced and refilled, and shared some great small talk about his time in New England before coming to Florida. The food came out quickly also. I plan to come back here and buy some of their cans of Chowder to take home...
Read moreThe clam chowder really was quite good! It's not the New England clam chowder I grew up with, but it has elements of it, with its creaminess and some of the ingredients. This famous chowder has a little bit of heat, though not so much that it deterred my 3 year old (who does not like spicy food) from "sharing" most of my bowl.
I got the tuscan bowl, which had angel hair pasta with peppers, capers, and shrimp, and some fried green beans. The pasta had that distinct tuscan flavor with the herbs, and was well balanced, not too oily or heavy. It came with some tasty soft garlic bread. I really liked the fried green beans, which came with what looked like spicy mayo but definitely had a horseradish kinda kick to it. The decor is very nautical and cozy.
Was popular even on a random Monday at 1pm. Several families, and very friendly with kids. Good amount of seating, including outside with umbrellas, and a section under a covered awning. The service was great! Definitely a much loved local spot.
There is no on site parking, but there's street parking all around, so it wasn't hard to find a...
