I first found this place when I worked for the city. I did the beer permit inspections. Part of those inspections is to look at the kitchen. This one was by far the cleanest and most organized I had seen as an inspector. The owner was very nice and I finally took my wife out one Friday night. On Yelp it asked if I wanted reservations and since this was an anniversary date night, I did. Once we got here at 6:30pm I could see that this was unnecessary, but I could see it changing as more people find out about this place and it isn’t very big. It ended up filling in around us, but never got completely filled up.
We did come in a bit overdressed in a dress and suit jacket, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that also becomes the norm. We were greeted by a wonderfully charming lady who ended up being one of the owners. After a great little history lesson, she explained the food was a mix of Latino and Asian foods.
My wife and I had several cocktails, all different so we could try them and all of them were unique and delicious. They also brought me a glass of what I am calling “corn-tea”. Think of a more hearty sweet tea that is purple.
I would love to tell you we tried many dishes, but 13yrs into eating together, we have found getting an appetizer and 1 entree to share is plenty of food.
We got an order of mixed seafood ceviche, which if you have never had before, this is the place to try it. Best we have ever had.
We also got an order of calamari. It was great, but I kind-of wish we would have tried something more traditional.
Overall, our meal was not cheap, but worth every penny. In a city of 25 burger places and 50 pizza restaurants, this is a nice addition to the city for one of the most authentic and unique experiences in town.
Worth your time and money.
Also they seem to do a good bit of to-go orders if that...
Read moreVery ambitious restaurant that seems out of place at its current location. The flavor is there, no doubt about that. Most reviewers have commented on the food which is the most important factor, but there are some details that could either be improved upon or at least be mentioned so that future diners will be prepared. The tables and chairs are plastic and there are only bottled soft drinks. These details, more typical of Chinese take-out establishments, conflict with the quality and price of the menu. The addition of a 18% "service fee" to the bill regardless of party size will be a source of resentment for many. Not that the waitstaff doesn't deserve it and I will routinely tip more than this, but having a restaurant put you under duress by adding 18% to the bill feels like a betrayal of trust. You can, of course, ask them to remove the helpful addition of 18% from the bill should you feel the need. Perhaps the plan is to gain stability before investing more heavily into the establishment and this is understandable but the experience is confusing nonetheless. Be prepared to sit down to a plastic table and chairs, be given a 20oz bottled soft drink, and eat large portions of delicious food, but get a bill equal to a midpriced dine in restaurant (Cheesecake Factory, Carrabas, Bonefish, etc). It was worth it to experience Peruvian food, which didn't dissappoint, but to make it past the honeymoon stage and get enough customers to come back after the first visit, changes will...
Read moreToday I had one of the BEST meals I’ve had in a very long time. I have never enjoyed Peruvian food before…and I was a little apprehensive when I looked over the menu. My server Mina was great at explaining the drink and food menu so I decided to try the Sol y Sombra…a very refreshing drink. For dinner I went for the Lomo Saltado…steak, fresh tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and a secret sauce. This is sautéed in a Cantonese wok and served with french fries and white rice. This dish was confusing to me but Mina explained Peruvian foods had many influences from different cultures. When she delivered my meal I was still a bit apprehensive until my first bite and all apprehension melted away. The steak…perfectly cooked and seasoned smothered in purple onions cooked al dente covering up a pile of french fries in a pool of the “secret sauce”. The rice…a sticky Asian rice versus a light and fluffy version perfectly matching the dish. If you’ve enjoyed Poutine you would love the flavors of the french fries and the sauce, exceptional combination of flavors. While a simple dish, the flavors really complimented how everything was put together. Overall…excellent food and service!!! The only recommendation I have…if possible offer some...
