I finally had the opportunity to check out this establishment about a week or so ago. I stopped in twice during my most recent two-week stay in Myrtle Beach.
The first visit was on Wednesday evening, May 7. The piano player that evening was very good. The chocolate martini I ordered was excellent, as were the appetizers. I also ordered an iced tea for myself in addition to the martini. I asked for two iced tea refills throughout the evening and was quite surprised to see on my bill that I was charged for three iced teas. When I questioned the charges, the server advised me that they do not offer free refills on soft drinks. I was surprised and let her know that I should have been informed of that policy prior to the refills. The server replied that they are a private establishment and "do as they choose." Regardless, a few days later, on Saturday evening, I stopped by again at the request of a different visiting friend. I agreed to go under the assumption there would be dueling pianos; however, there were not. It was a different piano player, and definitely not as good as the one from my previous visit. We each paid the $10 cover charge that night and were both honestly disappointed with the entertainment. We left for nearby Crocodile Rocks (dueling pianos) within 45 minutes. 88 Keys is nicely updated and offers a solid menu. The food and drinks were good.
I feel bad giving the establishment only four stars, but truthfully, I wasn’t super impressed. It's doubtful...
Read moreBeen to Library many times for dinner. Always go with family & friends. We spend a lot of $$$ there. Last visit we were encouraged by staff to check out the new look of 88 Keys. Unfortunately, due to the rudeness & attitude of the guy at the door at 88 Keys, this will be our last visit. We were told we had to pay a cover charge if not local. We were all local except my 34 yr old daughter who was visiting. We were told she would have to a pay cover charge. 3 of the 4 of us did not have id’s with us to prove we r full time residents. We told him we only wanted to peek in since it was newly renovated & we had already had dinner & drinks next door at the Library. We were told, my daughter would have to pay cover charge & if we didn’t want to go to our cars to get id’s, “HAVE A GREAT NIGHT”! In other words, “GET LOST” was his attitude & demeanor. My daughter & I had 1 shared appetizer, 1shared dessert & 2 drinks each. Our tab was $163, plus I then left a $25 tip for the bartender. (Who was very goo) She knew we were locals from Grand Dunes & suggested we peek in on the way out. Too bad this 1 guy’s rudeness & attitude cost u future business from us & my friends. I’d rather spend my $$$ with businesses that show appreciation for us as customers. (Management was notified & response was “REALLY? SORRY...
Read moreAfter living in Myrtle Beach for over a year, I finally have found a wonderful alternative to the laid back beach bar and all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant scene. This fun, classy gastropub is a welcome addition bringing a smart, vibrant theme to our little seaside community. A rare retreat were no backwards hats and flip flops are allowed and a very imposing yet friendly doorman politely enforces both dress and conduct codes. The owner has spared no expense in making this a chic seaside oasis without the sand. The decor and decoum are both fabulous. Food is great with a fully stocked bar staffed by very affable (and exquisitely beautiful) bartenders. The highlight is of course found on the acoustically perfect raised stage. If you think that all piano bars are only for drunken college kids featuring off-key singalongs with foul lyrics, these first class performers will change your mind! Only the most talented musicians are invited, making it a truly delightful and memorable experience. If the modest $10 weekend cover charge for out of town guests bothers you, go to Chicago where this type of club experience would cost at least $75 just to park and...
