This is my 2nd time visiting the Caravelle first time in 2018. We visited during renovations and were told they were installing a restaurant, a game room updating the fitness room, and adding a Spa. Just to name a few. The first time it was wonderful we were only here for 3 days. I couldn't wait to come back to see the update. Fast forward to 2025 This time we booked our trip for 7 days. So we could explore everything that had to offer at a RESORT. The very first day check-in is at 4 pm. We drove from Ohio, and we arrived a little after 7 pm. Check in was a little bit of a wait (they had 2 workers, but one was new) After about 20mins later we got checked in, and headed to our room on the 7th floor, right across from the pool. No problem get in the room It smelled like mold really heavy, and one side of the room was cold the other was warm, so I decided to head to the pool to cool off with 3 of my sons. Once there, for not even 5 minutes, I was told I needed a wristband to use the pool. So I went back to the room and got all the bands. Come back and they tell us the pool is about to close. Ok cool, went back to the room to try to relax, immediately when I open the door I look down and it's a black bug crawling across the floor. I stepped on it. Moving along I started to look around the room to see if I saw anymore which I did. On the bathroom floor was a dead Roach and next to the closet. Because the front desk was ''closed'' I called the numbers listed to also ask for a blanket, the guy told me I had to come across the street to get it. I told him we just got here and there are 3 beds and 2 blankets. The guy sighed and said he would send someone to bring a blanket. They brought a sheet. I waited til morning to speak to a supervisor. The night sleep was so uncomfortable I had a hard time breathing because of my asthma and the mold smell on top of that the room was so hot, so when I got up the next morning, I asked my oldest son if he had seen any roaches while he was awake. He told me one ran across the bed and he killed one next to his drink on the table. I immediately took pictures and went to the front desk. I spoke with someone who said they were the manager. I explained about the smell and my asthma and she immediately said she was bout to change our room. Before I even mentioned the bugs. (I feel like they knew they had roaches already) So we get moved to the 9th floor, no problem it was closer to the elevator and was way cooler than the room before. And no bugs that I could see. Once again there were 3 beds and 2 blankets. So I called down to housekeeping to ask for a blanket and some towels. I was so tired from the night before I had taken a nap. Once I got up about 5 hours later still no blanket or towels. I called again nobody answered the phone so I called again. It's about 7 pm at this point. I asked. Again they never showed. So the next day I went back. To speak with a manager, she was not there, but a woman by the name of Zoe helped me get blankets, towels, and forgot to mention toilet paper. Ironically it was the same person I spoke with the night before, she was shocked to learn I never got the blanket or towels, or the toilet paper. And it's been over 24 hours. I asked to speak to the manager I spoke with the day before, she told me she won't be back until Thursday the 19th. At this point, it was all a lie. The '' amenities'' are not included the wifi barely works and you have to pay for EVERYTHING you touch. The restaurant they said they was adding lies it's not even a part of the hotel, but they are advertising like it is. The game room takes only coins, the spa is an additional cost and the OceanFront lawn view they claim is a part of the amenities. You have to rent, for the price of 1,400 plus, and it does not include the 250 damage fee they hold. Which is not included. (Shocker to me). Day 3 and I still find myself asking for the basic towels and blankets and now a broom. Family of 6 coming and can't wait to leave. I feel lied to and taken advantage of. Read moreI booked this resort with high hopes the negative reviews were wrong. Unfortunately, we were VERY disappointed. We booked The Caravelle Resort for 2 nights Saturday-Monday 'Terrace View Executive Suite' which has 2 double beds in one room & a Murphy Bed in the living room area. We were there to celebrate Mother's day & my birthday; family of 4 including 2 young kids. Upon arriving, our room was not ready, we were a little early so that was ok! The woman I was greeted with was friendly she told me to come back, gave us a parking pass & bracelets to use the pool. We went to the beach to spend the day, around 5:30pm I went back to the lobby to check in. There was a line out the door & 2 people working the desk. Waited about a half hour to be helped. The woman who checked me in was not friendly by any means, she didn't check my ID & didn't make eye contact with me. Handed me a paper to sign, asked "You know the parking fees? You know the incidental policy?" I said yes. She handed me a room key & said next. Did not give any information about the resort, where our room was, no paperwork, just handed me a key & said next. I went back to the beach to join my family, after a bit we packed up & went to the pool, then finally went to our room. By the time we found it, the kids were exhausted, ready to shower & get to bed. This is where we became very unhappy about choosing this resort. Our room was disgusting & extremely unclean. I took pictures of the furniture & walls to show what damage that was already done to the place, which wouldn't have been terrible, if the room was at least clean. The first thing you noticed walking into the room was the smell. The first 2 beds were made at least. Walking into the kitchen area & bathroom, you could see the counters were not wiped down completely, the utensils were dirty with crusty food on them. There was a spider & earwig there to greet us. The floor was not cleaned properly either. Walking into the living room space- there was a sock & fake fingernail in a corner, crumbs on the floor & stains EVERYWHERE on ALL the furniture. We wouldn't sit on anything. We pulled the Murphy bed down since that's where we wanted the kids to sleep (away from the very loud noise in the other room, coming from the thin walls) we all shrieked at the sight of what condition this bed was in. The back of the bed had unknown liquid stains on it & the bottom/back where the bed folds into was absolutely disgraceful. Pictures to show what we saw doesn't even do it justice. Our TV remotes had no batteries, so you couldn't even turn on the TV to drown out any other noise... Tried to call to the front multiple times with no answer. It was now late, the kids wanted to go to sleep, we packed everything into this room & we were out of options. We all slept terribly since you heard every noise outside of your door. My husband brought the kids to the beach in the morning & I went to the lobby to ask for a new room. Again, very busy & little help for guests. I overheard heard multiple people complaining, one person in front of me told me they were in a building that had asbestos signs! Seemed pointless to ask for another room, who knows what we would get. So we found spent more money to stay somewhere else. After packing up our stuff, we stopped at the lobby to check out early & voice our complaints. 1 woman was at the desk helping someone else, asked if I was checking in, I said no, checking out. She looked confused & yelled over to someone else to come out. No one came out so when she finished with her guest, she yelled again for someone else, guess who it was... the not-so-friendly woman who checked me in less than 24 hours prior. She looked at me this time & said "Room number?" I told her 737. She said OK you're good. Leave the keys in the room" I was taken back and again, didn't want to waste anymore time or energy on this resort. It has the potential to be so great too... Maybe they need more help, better management, better cleaning crews? It is was so disappointing that they could not do better...
Read moreToday we checked out of this hotel, and will never come back after they tried to kick us out because their security guard said his feelings were hurt and he felt disrespected. No other reason. Our family consisted of about 30-40 people, and have occupied multiple rooms at this hotel for many years. The security guards are obviously racist, and don't have the appropriate temperament to do the job.
I was in the lazy river with my nieces at about 2pm on 6/29/2024. Their dad got in about 2:30. Prior to then, I had seen the security guard, a Hispanic male, about 5'10, just standing at the pool. I watched him make a beeline to my brother. I was on the other side of the lazy river going around, so I couldn't hear or see what was happening, but I could tell he was getting accosted by the security. By the time I got around to the other side my brother had gotten out. I asked the security guard what was going on when I got to him, and he said kids had been going missing from the hotel and was concerned. I told him we were all together, and even talked to him about two boys who were in the lazy river unaccompanied, but whose grandmother was close by. Not once did he ask me, the two boys, or anyone else in the lazy river for a wristband. I did not see him walk up to any other guest at the pool the entire time we stayed there which was another 2 hours.
My brother said that the security guard asked him 4 times what room number he was in. He told him, 911, but the guard immediately took offense and asked "you want me to call backup?", he said no, it's 911. The guard then kept assuming my brother was saying "call 911" instead of responding to his question telling him the room number.
We went up to my dad's room to eat lunch and went to the beach, about 5:15 my dad comes to the beach saying we were getting "Evicted" because "someone was throwing things from the balcony". The same security guard had targeted our dad's room because he knew the number.
The guard intentionally intimidated my stepmom saying: "I have video of people throwing things from your balcony". When I stepped over to the side and talked to him, he told me "I don't have any video and I didn't see it myself, so I can't prove it".
When I asked him "why have things escalated to our family getting kicked out?" He said it was because when he came to confront us about the claim of someone 'throwing things from the balcony' my brother "disrespected" him by telling him to stop harassing us and leave. I told him, it doesn't make sense, we haven't broken rules, damaged property or hurt anyone. How can one person have power over others because of their feelings? We paid a premium to stay at this hotel.
The disrespect to have the cops called on us and harass our family further was the real issue that needs to be rectified. As black people in the United States, using the threat of police violence against us to exert your power when you can't handle your own emotions is too prevalent and needs to stop.
Now let's get to the hotel. For the price, it was a rip off. The cost of a 3 night stay has tripled in the last 4 years. We had to call to get towels daily and two days were told "there aren't any towels. Same for the pool. The room has a kitchen, but no dish soap. Shows how dirty the place is. The door handle to the patio was literally falling off. We kept picking up screws off of the ground. The door to the closet was off track so bad it couldn't be fixed.
Every time we needed anything and called, we kept being told it wasn't available.
Security issue: If children are going missing from your hotel, why do you not have someone checking bracelets as you come into the pool area? Also, why ask the room number with no way to check unless you're just harassing people? The biggest security issue was with the guard who was on duty. I witnessed him turn his body cam off and on multiple times as he was talking to me. I'm sure if you watch his videos it will be apparent. He was controlling the narrative by choosing what to record and what not to...
