This past weekend, I visited Myrtle Beach with some friends for my birthday and Friday night as we drove around looking for good places to eat, we happened to drive past Sugarlife, and I knew I had to try it. They were closed at the time, so I went the next day on Saturday (my actually birthday). As my friends and I walked in, we were so excited to try everything because it was so colorful and sweets everywhere. However as soon as we walked in, the employee standing behind the counter (blue lipstick, colorful eyeshadow, dark hair, tattoo on the back of her neck) failed to greet us, but she was looking right at us as we walked in and she had a very unwelcoming look on her face. It was a big store so we started by looking at everything and we noticed a large family (Caucasian) walked in shortly after us and they got a very loud welcome into the store as well as they were asked if they needed any help right away. As she was helping the other customers and scooping their ice cream, she starred at my sister the entire time as if my sister was a criminal that she needed to watch. My friends and I continued to look around the store until someone was available to help us because that employee and another were both helping this family. After awhile of not being helped and getting horrible looks, we decided to just leave. I was happy to get some ice cream on my birthday, but instead I left feeling upset and without any sweets. Our experience was so disappointing and I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone because as you might have guessed me and my friends are African American and the treatment we received...
Read moreOne night during our stay at the beach, my girlfriend and I decided to stop and get some ice cream here. Big mistake. We pulled in the parking lot and checked when they closed -my girlfriend works in a restaurant so we know how it is when people come in at closing time- we had roughly 15 minutes, plenty of time to get a couple ice cream cones to go. When we walked in the door we were promptly greeted with "We close in 6 minutes!" Confused, we both checked the time, knowing it hadn't taken 9 minutes to get out of the car and walk to the door. We acknowledged them and made your way to the ice cream cooler, and once the employees finished their 'completely work related' conversation one of them came over to serve us. She asked what we wanted while rolling her eyes. We got our ice cream and left with time to spare before closing. Overpriced, low quality, and rude employees, they obviously didn't want our money that night so I won't be back. Especially when Cookout it's right down the road with friendly ,smiling faces, lower prices and fresh ice...
Read moreStore looked fun so we wanted to treat our kiddos the last night we were in town. Store was clean and neat, but prices were extreme so just settled for ice cream. I did love the white chocolate raspberry ice cream! My husband was given the wrong ice cream in his sundae. Only toppings for the kids were sprinkles...you'd think they'd have a bigger selection. But, the worst part and most unsettling were the employees. They were short and condescending. I accidentally left my purse on the chair....and when we returned 15 minutes later, we were told no purses had been found. My husband was smart enough to track my phone...INSIDE THE STORE. When he went to retrieve it, a couple employees kept trying to avoid the obvious evidence. Thank God for the one honest, young man who worked there that actually looked for it and handed it over. When I later called the manager to report it, he was really more concerned with defending his employees. Sad. Just hope this never happens to...
