My family went to this restaurant for dinner, and the experience was terrible from the start. My grandmother’s Philly sandwich came out cold and unappetizing. My sister-in-law asked for another side of fries because hers were also cold, but she never received them. No one checked on us at all, which we understood was partly due to short staffing, but the service was still unacceptable. When we finally asked for a manager and explained the poor service, he showed no concern at ALL just repeatedly said “okay, okay, okay” and claimed he’d “take care of it.” After that, no one ever came back to our table. We ended up waiting 20 minutes just to get our bill, so we went to find either our server or the manager. When we approached him again, my sister tried to explain how bad the service had been. Instead of listening, he started YELLING at her, waving his hands in her face, and being completely unprofessional and disrespectful. My sister told him, “We’re just going to leave because you are not going to yell at me,” and he tried to threaten her by saying we couldn’t do that and that he’d call the police. Then, contradicting himself, he told her to leave. We had no problem paying for our food—we just wanted to leave after being treated so badly. But he escalated the situation for no reason. When my sister asked for his name, he rudely said, “Don’t worry about it,” and refused to identify himself. He then dumped the situation on our poor waitress and walked away without a single apology. We later learned his name is Scott, and if you ever need help here, do not waste your time with this so-called manager. He clearly has no idea how to handle customers and was downright hostile to my sister. We paid our bill and will never be back. We’ll also be contacting higher management because no one should be...
Read moreBummz Beach Cafe offers a charming patio dining experience with a clear view of the beach, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal while people-watching. The ambiance is laid-back and perfect for a casual bite. Our server was friendly and accommodating, which set a positive tone for our visit.
We ordered the buffalo shrimp with fries and the grouper fingers with fries and a side of coleslaw. The portion sizes were impressive, especially with the fries. The fries came in such large portions that we ended up wasting an entire order, as we could have easily shared just one. A heads-up from the server about the generous portion size would have been helpful and could have prevented this waste of $$ and food. The fries themselves were bland, no seasoning at all so i had to add ketchup to liven them up. The buffalo shrimp were tasty, though they weren’t deveined, which led to a bit of an unpleasant surprise for me—getting a vein stuck in my throat and almost choking was definitely not it. The coleslaw was refreshing and well-seasoned. The grouper fingers, though not sampled by me, were reported to be good by my dining companions.
A significant downside was the presence of 3 cats roaming around the patio. While some diners might not be bothered, I found it unsettling to have animals approaching the tables and walking around underfoot while people were eating. As someone who isn’t particularly fond of cats, this detracted from the overall dining experience.
In summary, Bummz Beach Cafe offers a pleasant beachside setting and sizable portions. However, better communication about portion sizes and addressing the issue of roaming cats could significantly enhance the...
Read moreThis is been one of our favorite stops for several years, and today it was not up to par. The groupa fingers varied between overdone and undercooked in the same batch. And this may have been on the menu before, and we didn’t notice it: the Groupa of fingers are any white fish they decide to put into batter. I doubt it’s grouper. The other thing bothered us about this visit was we noticed a ‘service charge’ that was added to our bill with no explanation. We ask our wait person about it and they don’t see any of that, and in my opinion, labeling it as a service charge disrespects the workers and the patrons because the service people don’t see any of that money. A large company bought the restaurant recently, and it seems like they are trying to hide charges to increase their profits. if they need to raise their prices to cover their costs, put it on the menu so I know what I’m buying when I order. Don’t surprise me with an added fee at the end of my meal that I was not expecting. That is deceitful.
Edit in response to the owner's reply: The service fee may be on the menu, but it certainly wasn't noticed when we ordered, and that is my point. Raise your prices and make it so I know what I am paying when I order. Your claim that your service fee allows you to keep prices low is ridiculous and an insult to my intelligence. You don't raise your prices, but you add on extra afterwards - and that keeps you competitive ????? You are still charging more. I am paying more - just be honest about it. I will respect you more and will return more often for honesty than "perceived"...
