The employee here was obviously not happy about being there and we felt like we had just ruined her entire life when we walked in to order milkshakes. She wasn’t friendly or welcoming and her disgust with being asked to make milkshakes was obvious. There was no small talk. No smiling faces. Just total, awkward silence as we stood there (for quite a while) riddled with guilt because we had dared to walk through the doors.
She was the only employee and we were ordering for 4 people. Each time she would finish a shake, we would have to remind her that there were more to make (because she seemed to forget and begin to ring us up) and the process of guilt and awkwardness would start all over again.
She also had no idea which shakes were which when she was done, so we had to guess. It was like a non-deadly game of Russian Roulette because my daughter will not drink after anyone and the entire milkshake would have been wasted if we made the wrong choice.
Maybe if this employee had a little help, it wouldn’t have taken so long and she wouldn’t have been so overwhelmed with disgust for humanity. Perhaps two employees at all times would be a wise choice for a place as busy as Broadway at the Beach.
Their slogan at The Fudgery is “Fudge & Fun”. But it seemed more like fudge & misery to us. Luckily, our salty tears didn’t affect the taste of our milkshakes as they dropped from our faces after leaving. The milkshakes were in fact, very good which is why I am leaving 3 stars. But paying 8 dollars for a milkshake and feeling like I need to apologize is not what I expected when I chose...
Read moreBEWARE BEWARE BEWARE! We went there Saturday night and it smelled wonderful! The lady was yelling about ice cream samples. The sign had pictures of waffle cones on it and read $4.49 (four dollars and some change) single scoop. I ordered a single scoop on a waffle cone and it came up to a little over $6.00. I wouldn't have been upset except my cone was only half full but I watched as 6 other people walked away with nice FULL single scoop cones. I asked her about it and the samples lady started yelling even louder about samples! She gave me some lame excuse and I was so annoyed by all the noise that I just stood back and waited for my family. Then I bit my cone and it was really soft and stale! I asked everyone else about theirs and it was the same issue. She was fixing my mom and grandmother's cones so I warned them to tell her not to give them waffle cones because they were stale. She told my mom "it's the only kind of cone we have." Instead of giving my mom and grandmother cups, she charged them for the stale cones. We started inquiring about why we were given and charged for stale cones and the samples lady increased the noise. I wanted to SCREAM! She must have been the manager who was very skilled at causing distractions and annoying people out of the shop. Well it worked because we were so annoyed we left. We ate our ice cream and tossed the awful cones. If you get anything from this place taste it first before you pay for it because they have no problem charging you high rates for old goodies. ...
Read moreI stepped into The Fudgery South expecting a straightforward shopping experience, but I was blindsided by an encounter that left me stunned. Before I could even say a word or glance around, the owner whirled around and unleashed a barrage of shouting—completely unprovoked and utterly unnecessary. His anger hit me like a wave, and his tone was not just aggressive; it felt rooted in something far more troubling.
As someone who has dealt with countless people in my career as a lawyer, I know the difference between a bad day and intentional hostility. This wasn’t a misunderstanding or a momentary lapse in judgment—this was targeted and deliberate. His demeanor screamed hostility and prejudice, leaving me with no doubt that this was far from an isolated incident. I’ve rarely felt so unwelcome, so disrespected, and so unjustly treated.
What’s even more disturbing is that, as a community business, the owner should strive to embrace all customers, yet here I was being driven away by an owner who acted as if I didn’t belong there. This is not how any customer should be treated, and certainly not how a community-focused establishment should operate. He picked the wrong person to intimidate with his unprofessional, unacceptable behavior. I’m committed to making sure others know about this treatment because no one should be subjected to such disdain.
If you’re considering visiting The Fudgery South, think twice. There are plenty of businesses that respect their customers; this one,...
