Visited Grits Grill twice during our 4-day OBX vacation. First visit was good. Only waited 10 minutes to be seated. Food was good, seating accommodations good and our waitress, Anna, was excellent. Did notice a little bit of water staining on the overhead tiles but no biggie. Second visit on a Saturday morning was a little bit different. Had to wait 45 minutes for seating which was OK but restaurant was extremely crowded. Our waitress, Angela, was very nice. waited a little bit longer for food and when it came, was OK. Although, one from my party ordered pancakes and said that they were bland. The biggest complaint, were the FLIES!!!!! They were everywhere!!! The only thing I could think is that they moved the hostess station outside near the entrance and there was a trashcan really close to the entrance. Also the floors were unkept. There was food from previous customers remaining on the floor after they left. The manager had to tell one of the staff to go sweep the floor under one of the tables. That should have been noticed by the staff person immediately after bussing the table as it was the same person bussing and sweeping. Also worth noting, the bathroom and the kitchen had the same entryway. And the bathroom is a unisex bathroom being shared by men and women. There was a line waiting at the bathroom/kitchen entryway that spilled over into the dining area. My husband has refused to return until the fly issue is resolved, the floors are stripped and resurfaced or mopped with bleach. That only requires moving the trashcan away from the entrance. Also wanted to note that the hostess, Alex, was very...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE!. I never complain but this was the most disgusted I have ever been at a restaurant. I want to start by saying the staff were really nice and the manager was nice. I sat at the bar with my GF and got to watch how the food was cooked and handled. Not one cook had gloves on and there was another woman that was next to the cooks that was finalizing the plates. Not one strip of bacon was cooked in front of me. It was pre cooked in a metal pan up on a shelf. The woman finalizing plate would reach in and grab a handful of bacon and put it on the plates and put the remaining bacon back with no gloves and this process was repeated the entire time I sat. I then observed all the waitress staff cooking the toast with no gloves and passed through multiple sets of hands before making it to the plates. Not one waitress ever washed their hands before touching the toast after cleaning tables or doing anything. I also observed a waitress come out of the kitchen with a hard boiled egg in her bare hands and cut it in half and place it on someoneās plate. Again never once did someone wash their hands. I watched the women drop a pieces of bacon onto the table below with other food and pick it back up and put it back in the pan with the rest of the bacon. I could go on and on and we ended up only eating a couple things and left the rest and I brought it up to the manger and he was nice and we did not pay and I did tip the waitress. But I donāt see them making any changes and I will definitely not eat here again. If we had sat at a table we would have never known and I think thatās why the reviews...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe just want to start by saying our issue isnāt with the food, servers or cooks at Grits Grill. They do an excellent job and are the reason we have been coming back for years. However, our recent Sunday morning breakfast (8/25/24) was by far the worst at Grits Grill..well anywhere in the OBX. We are guessing the gentlemen that was throwing the F word around..among other choice words dealing with a printer issue is the owner. You sir..need to do better. You treated your staff horribly the whole time we tried to eat our breakfast in peace. Our whole breakfast we heard you yelling rude comments to the staff. Uncalled, petty comments. We just want to point out that the staff you treated so poorly this morning is what keeps us among others coming back. Your behavior this morning was very unprofessional and your presence ruined the atmosphere of the Grits Grill we have grown to love through the years. Today, we pray for your staff that goes above and beyond to take care of customers making you money. We pray that they know how much their kindness and smiles mean even when being belittled in front of customers. Sir, we also pray for you because I would hope a printer issue is not what caused your behavior this morning. Lastly, we ask that you be mindful of your staff. We all are dealing with our own struggles including that staff that is bringing customers back for years! Thank you goes a long way and in a world where we can choose to be anythingā¦choosing to be kind says so much about your character..and you sir were not kind at all...
