New China — Restaurant in Nags Head

We NEVER complain or post anything negative but this was a mistake going here on our vacation. My boyfriend and I were eager to try out a Chinese take out place while visiting the beach, this is NOT that place. Once we entered and walked up to the counter, the lady who took our order gave us a look and began to judge us as my boyfriend asked a simple question. We ordered chicken fried rice and the house special fried rice, paid for our food, signed the receipts and was told it would be 10 minutes. We decided to wait in the dining room area. We were checking out the rest of the restaurant and noticed it was divided by clear shower curtains. On the other side of the store if their buffet closed down with all these necessary containers and extra supplies also stored over there. Upon waiting for less than 5 minutes our order was ready. We left and went to go eat our food, I opened my box up and notice white pieces all in my box of food and thought maybe it was onion but no it was suppose to be chicken. It could have also been fish based on its appearance. The “chicken” was discolored and almost opaque, the color was like no chicken I’ve seen before. I ask my boyfriend to try it and while he does so i try some of the rice. Once he tries his food, we both immediately spit our food out. We have no idea if it was rancid, old “food”, possibly messed with since we did not want to tip until after we received our food, or if it just was terrible “food.” The smell and taste was like no other and can only be described as disgusting. We decided we were going to throw it away and go get something different. With another situation arising during our midst in trying to get edible dinner, we had misplaced our wallet and we had to return to New China to ask for their assistance. Immediately they said no, their cameras do not work, they have been too busy to see anything, (in the whole hour we spent going back and forth we only saw 2 other families from 7:00-8:00), and their responses were not satisfactory. We brought our food boxes back, completely filled, in the plastic bag and asked for a refund. The lady up front asked “Why?” My boyfriend then said “this food isn’t any good and we cannot eat it” she then said “no no this food is good” as she began to walk away from the stand as my boyfriend was trying to explain our concern with the food. He then asked her to come back over and look at the food. He asked her to smell it and she of course said it smelled great. He then told her to pick up a piece of chicken and smell it, she did so and said it smelled like chicken breast and was good. He then said “if it is so good then try your own food” she proceeded by saying “oh no, I can’t eat that.” After denying us a refund and a valid explanation and returning our “food”, we simply left the bag of food on the counter and walked out the door. This food was nasty, the bathroom was dirty and the toilet was clogged and the corners of the bathroom had dust all over the place. The food was so dry that it was drier than my scalp. There was barely any food and the food they did have was old and mixed with the new food I mean is this a buffet or a gas station? There was barley any light, The tables were sticky the only thing that tasted DECENT was the sodas they had in a fridge like Lemonade and Sprite. Back to the food, We found hair in our food and in the shrimp we had the most waste inside and we realized mid way of eating, It may be cheap but it is DISGUSTING. As I am writing this I am having massive stomach pains and back pains. The food was hard to consume. The shrimp was overly cooked and burnt (I don't know how you can burn shrimp but they did and made it spicy and I am Hispanic we are born to handle spice but it was too much) The only thing that made it better was the customers agreeing with us. (THERE WAS NONE BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS TO NEVER EVER IN THERE RIGHT MIND COMES HERE) There was no chef, no cook. Food is cold only one line of food even then there was barely any in that one line. I called 45mins. from closing, they took my order with no issue.. the food was hot and the lo-mein I requested with no onions, had no onions " thank you".. the chicken chow mein was hot and tasted good, the crab Rangoon was not my favorite but not bad, my favorite was the egg-rolls which tasted fresh and wasn't oily or overcooked.. the price was reasonable and I was impressed with the flavor overall..its worth driving a little further for me from Manteo to Nags Head for the friendly customer service, taste of the food and price.. To those who waited on me at " New China Buffet ". Thank you for the great customer service after spending a few days in a hospital in Raleigh and arriving home late and hungry, you really were awesome! I will definitely be returning. And to others I recommend them for to go Chinese" good, hot food and friendly service. ( and people" don't forget even if take-out, tip your server's/ they really do work hard for...
