This Indian place is located in a complex opposite to Vanderbilt University, so you could see the college crowd in this restaurant. I was visiting Nashville over the weekends with my family and I was looking for an Indian place to eat for Friday evening as we couldn't get a table at a restaurant recommended by one of my friends. The place was jam packed and somehow the servers managed to provide us a table. The kitchen seemed to be busy with additional online food orders as well. For starters I ordered Samosa Chat and Tomato Soup. For the main course, we ordered 3 dishes - Dal Makhani, Paneer Makhani and Malai Kofta. In breads we ordered Garlic Naan and Lachha Paratha.
Here is my rating to all the individual items -
Samosa Chat - 3 Stars - The samosa in the chat was ok but the chick peas gravy was amazing. Tomato Soup - 5 Stars - The soup had a unique blend of spcies which was liked by everyone. Dal Makhani - 5 Stars - The dal reminded me of the dal which I ate when I was visitng Punjab. Paneer Makhani - 1 Star - The gravy was ok and it looked like it had too much color. Plus it was tasteless and was probably missing the salt. Malai Kofta - 0 Stars - This was by far the worst kofta I had in my life. Everyone was so much disappointed in this dish. The kofta's were to hard to eat and they felt like you are eating rubber. It was like pakoras served with gravy. Garlic Naan - 2 Star - The Naans had pretty thick and raw edges which were not edible. Lachha Paratha - 5 Stars - The star of our dinner was this Paratha. It was very well prepared and crisp. We even ordered more parathas as everyone enjoyed this.
I believe this place is over-rated and I would not come back to this...
Read moreBombay Palace is an iconic staple of not just good authentic Indian food in Nashville, but also phenomenal service! When dining-in, every table automatically gets a tray of condiments to complement the complimentary serving of Papadums.
The menu boasts a huge variety of North Indian dishes that will satisfy even those with the most restrictive dietary needs. Pescatarians, Lacto-vegetarians, Vegans or if you have non dairy requirements can all be met easily with modifications.
A dish that I've fallen in love with at Bombay Palace is known as Chicken Methi. The Methi (Fenugreek leaves) gives a distinct flavor and the creaminess makes the dish just melt in your mouth. If you prefer non cream based dishes, there are coconut cream or even cashew based curries that you can request.
A meal is not complete without an order of Naan which is a type of bread that is cooked in a tandoor oven. Depending on your preferences, you could try just plain, butter, chilli or Garlic Naan which is my favorite!
Bombay Palace is also known for their Lasso which is a yogurt based cooling drink to wash down the spicy dishes. Try their Mango Lassi and you can't be disappointed! Ending the meal with Gulab Jamun which are fried balls of dough soaked in a sugary solution is the perfect desert in my opinion.
I must add that despite the awesome quality of food you get at Bombay Palace, it's nothing compared to the service of the wait staff! If you ever get to be served by Manish or Rinku, then you'll understand that you must bring your A-game to join in the playful banter that awaits their regular customers. You won't regret making Bombay Palace a regular pit...
Read moreAnother hit from Bombay Palace! My sister and I are in love with this place...we both enjoy Indian food a great deal, and my regular spot is another place north of town. However, my sister is visiting from out of town, and her hotel is only a few miles from BP. We went once on a whim...and tonight was our third visit in a week!
The food here is beyond delicious. Perfectly prepared, beautifully seasoned, served piping hot and oh so fresh. The cachumber salad is to die for (and this is coming from someone who is a tomato hater!) and you can tell there is so much love and care put into every dish. Extra points for the cute little candles under the pots of curry to keep them warm as you eat :)
The restaurant is spotless, the bathrooms clean, and the interior beautifully decorated with inviting colours and fresh flowers at every table.
The owner, Sonny, is an absolute joy-he can be found taking orders and explaining the extensive menu with great patience and a friendly smile. 🌞
Prices are about what you'd expect for the location- higher than our normal joint, but not unreasonable.
There is only one negative, however-the parking situation is not great at all- either be prepared to back out of your parking spot onto West End, or park around back and walk a fair distance. (Restaurant is located in the middle of a strip mall, so you have to walk around either side of the entire building to reach the lot. (The side next to Piggly Wiggly is a little shorter).
But trust me, it is worth the hassle. You might actually feel better after a little walk after dinner...you...
