On this occasion went to volunteer with the TN Prison Outreach Ministry and their fundraiser walk. As we were walking around putting up the trail signage we got to watch several flocks of new born ducks and geese. Always melts my heart to see the little families in the pond. My only complaint was all of the damn Pokémon players blocking the roads, (by either standing in the road or stopped in their car on the middle of the road where no one could pass or go around them), the two walking trails are so tranquil, esp the short track around the pond. Located at the corner of 25th Ave and West End Ave diagonally across from Vanderbilt University and with Belmont University a few miles away, it's a great place for students to go study, relax and exercise and there's always hot guys with their shirts off in warmer weather playing soccer, frisbee, running etc. Centennial Park is a great place to take a family or a date for a picnic in the park or several times a year listen to concerts, watch "Movies in the park" and/or "Shakespeare in the park". Nashville's original nickname is "Athens of the south" and assumed that name bc Nashville and Athens Greece both exemplary in the belief of higher education, progress, trade and business, just to name a few. The park itself was built for Nashville's 100 year, Centennial celebration and the only monument, of seven minutes erected, that's still standing is the Parthenon and located in the center of the park. The full-scale replica of the Parthenon and Athena has recently been restored and made permanent with an art gallery established on the lower level and the permanent gallery on the main floor. The Parthenon itself can be rented out for events as I've been to a VIP party for a fundraiser along with a wedding dinner and reception and several art gallery openings. In the spring and summer months the beautiful landscaped gardens are full of brightly colored flowers and big shade trees--a great way to spend the afternoon...tie a hammock between a couple trees, lay back w a great book and relax and nap your cares away. My lab loves it when we go--she's such an energetic sweet people person but it's hard to keep her out of the pond when we get too close to the water's edge. I find it easy by keeping her busy and away by chasing her balls and her toys. (Just make sure you don't forget to have your dog food and water bowl, pooper scooper and clean up after yourselves but most of all... Relax...
Read moreCompletely disappointed! I brought my two PIT BULL dogs to this park on Saturday because I read the "great" reviews on here & decided to give it a try since I'm new to the area. Once we approached the gate there was a sign that read " Pit Bulls or dogs having the characters of the Pit Bull breed are not permitted in the dog park" First my feelings were complete anger then I got sad & actually started to cry. Why just Pit Bulls? Why was it fair for the Boxers, (which my male dog is part Boxer part Pit)German Shepherds, Chihuahuas & especially the 3 Dotson dogs who were barking & snarling with their hair standing up as we approached the gate, to be allowed in the dog park? This is animal racism in my opinion. Not ONE time in the 2 years that I've had my dogs have they ever provoked or shown any type of violent behavior. My one Pit is deaf & she's one of the sweetest & friendliest animals you will ever meet. They didn't make a sound when being barked at through the fence. One boxer came up to the fence & his tail along w/my dogs tails were wagging away. It sickened me to have to disappoint my babies & turn around & leave. This is completely unfair & totally uncalled for! People need to do research & learn that Pits are only as violent; as is ALL other dogs, when taught to be that way by...
Read moreI love thus park however they need to switch the spot lights that is facing the big historical building more toward the building it self because when we try to walk at night some times and specially with the kids, they look at these very bright light and its not safe for their eyes or even any ones eyes and make sure they clean their restrooms and make it available for public. and if they keep the park more secure and even put a camouflage police car because tons of people came to this park at night and smoke weed and mad the area not family save at all. and also their are some homeless people who they live there i think. Update # 1: Last time i went there i found the bright light off which is great thank you and they replace it with beautiful red spit light facing only the building which even making a stunning view to the building at night without hurting peoples eyes! this is awesome! Update #2: The smell of the bathrooms that are located besides the kids area is stinky and nasty and you can smell it all the way down the whole kids area! Please make sure to continuously clean it because the smell is unbelievably bad! Update# 3 last time i went there the moveable restrooms were not smily at all and everything was...
