I have been a customer of Darlene’s Kakes ever since they were in the old Harvey’s Building at Church Street and 6th Avenue. Being that I worked in that building I would find myself going downstairs to get me a wonderful delectable treat from time to time.
Did I mentioned that they were one of the few bakeries in Nashville that made pettifor cakes, my wife’s favorite. Also, my wife’s name is Darlene too, so this place is special to me for several reasons as you can imagine.
Every year I get a few for our June anniversary. However, this time when I went to get them at their new location - The Donut Den in Green Hills.
This year however when I went to pickup my order, as one would expect them to be behind the counter where the clerk would hand them to you to complete the order. NO! They were in a box on the counter where the public would sit. Now imagine my utter concern given that we are still in the COVID-19 Pandemic. Folks, if you haven’t noticed it’s STILL HERE.
So I call to speak with the owner today to discuss my experience and to my surprise she thanked me for informing her but furthermore to my surprise she found no problem with this type of delivery - they were sealed weren’t they? Wow, I’m floored.
Next year I will be looking for another bakery to provide the pettifor cakes.
Thanks Darlene’s Kakes, it’s been a...
Read moreThis isn’t the first time I’ve used Darlene’s Kakes, but it’s the first time I’ve been extremely disappointed. The first time was 12 years ago, for my sons 13th birthday cake. It was spectacular and delicious. Today, the cake was dry and tasted like a cake mix cake. The icing had a funny taste and wasn’t creamy and soft, but had a crunch to it as well. I drove from Murfreesboro for this. Very disappointed. The 2 stars instead of 1, came from Darlene being able to make the cake on 24 hour notice and the decorations were pretty. The box wasn’t the correct size for the cake board so the cake was exposed to the air, which may have caused the dry cake. The box was taped up in odd angles to try to fit the cake board. We ended up tossing over half the cake due to it being dry, and the box gaps was going to finish drying it out. Very...
Read moreI definitely expected more from this cake. Appreciate it that this was made ready with a week’s notice. However the top cream was too sugary and sweet. I specified for a blueberry vanilla cake but it hardly had any blueberry taste and they were just stuffed in the cake not as a cream or layer of crushed flavour like strawberries. The decoration was good but the cake was pretty much normal maybe too dry. The sugar of cream really put me off on the top layer and between. Also it tasted like cheap cakes not for something i would like to pay 35$+ something like you get 5$ kroger cakes Free decorations on the cake and free candles. Wont recommend it. I read google reviews n ordered for pick up however i missed checking yelp and facebook. Stupid me i guess. Pick was easy in greenhill inside...
