Tried Hall's recently, and unfortunately, our experience was not favorable. There were a couple disappointing issues. First, you'll find the tables are very close together. Normally this is fine, however, we were seated by a party of 6 or 7. It started out tolerable, but as the evening progressed, so did their decibel level. The more drinks that came to their table, so did the need to talk over one another, thus their conversations drowning out our own. This proceeded for a while, to the point where we just quit talking because we could not hear one another. Secondly, our service was less than stellar. We each started with a round of cocktails. The old-fashioned and their other bourbon signature drink ( cannot remember the name), was very good. There was a martini ordered and a neat pour from the bourbon selection. We started with the seafood tower, salads, and ordered a nice bottle of wine. One person had never tried raw oysters, so I had asked for crackers and hot sauce to help with their experience. This is when our waiter completely ignored us for a very long time. We were never asked for another round of cocktails, then about 40 minutes later, he come to the table in which we asked where our bottle of wine was. The waiter said he was waiting for the table to clear. The seafood tower was still on the table. We hadnt been able to eat everything on the tower because we never received the crackers, hot sauce, etc . We tried to get the waiter's attention beside us, but he was completely devoted to his large table. The wine came out about an hr after we ordered it ( this is not an exaggeration). Then the food finally came to the table. The steaks were very good. All cooked to specification, and taste was exceptional. We each ordered a side. Corn, asparagus, mushrooms, and something else i cannot remember at this point. The sides were mediocre at best. As we're starting to eat and enjoy our meal, the large party beside us left. That's when we could enjoy our conversation again. Our reservations were 7:30, and we were the last one's in the dining room area. We did not have any special orders or specific demands. We were simply ignored. We have all been to very high-end restaurants. We understand the process and how things should be brought out and in what order. We were all very disappointed with the service. Our server may have been in high demand by other tables, we don't know, but at the end of the day, that is irrelevant at a nice restaurant. We were a table of 4, eating with our in-laws, that we seldom see, and look forward to catching up with them. We could not hear one another, so that negated that aspect of conversation. Summary: Service was horrible for a higher end establishment. The steaks were the only saving grace for this review. I understand others have had a great experience, but I cannot honestly leave a favorable review based on ours.
I'm unsure if I will give this place another try, simply based on competition that I will frequent again over this one.
If i do, I will leave another, honest review, based on my...
Read moreWe came here to celebrate my friend's promotion after hearing great things from co-workers and the reviews online. I am sorry we came here. Do not waste your money go elsewhere. The staff was great walking in and everyone was friendly although everyone asked if we were celebrating something and I repeated 4 times we were here celebrating my friend's promotion which was frustrating. The girl giving us water said she would tell the waiter. The waiter Michael came over and then asked if we were celebrating something and honestly I just sighed. The communication between the staff was clearly terrible. The waiter was extremely rude as we were trying to order wine and clearly did not like my friend's wine selection and asked me what I wanted really rudely. I almost didn't order anything. His selection was awful so I just had a glass of what my friend picked which was really good and was the cheapest wine on the menu. The waiter continued to be quick and seemed either in a bad mood or just plain rude the entire time. I ordered a steak and he never bothered to notice I ate one piece and that was it. I didn't want to say anything to anyone and make a big deal and ruin my friend's celebration. I thought I had ordered the loaded baked potato and the mashed potatoes were brought out. I can't eat these so basically I ate almost nothing. The waiter came by and said we had slowed down. We never ate anything. I had some mushrooms and that was it. I have never been in a restaurant in Nashville except McDonalds where they didn't notice if something was not eaten and asked if it was ok. When he asked how everything was I just said fine. They asked if they could box up the food, I said yes and figured my dog could eat the $78 ribeye. The waiter and another girl came to collect the food. The girl pulled the plates off the table so quickly I thought the knife was going to come at me. The bill came and it is outrageous for the service and quality of the food. The manager came by and gave us glasses of champagne to celebrate the promotion which was nice but even that was not good. It was a nice gesture. I asked if they validate parking and they said no. Another $15. I then told them at the front his awful the waiter and service was and was less than impressed with the food. I did receive a call on the way home from the restaurant asking me what happened from Maddie. I explained to her what happened and told her I would not be back in again and she said she was sorry but that she would put a note in my reservation and to ask for her when I come back in. They clearly don't care and don't listen to anyone. I know I should have said something at the time, but again did not want to ruin the dinner for my friend and just honestly wanted to leave. There are so many good restaurants in Nashville I would suggest...
Read moreDeeply Disappointing Experience at Halls for Our 20th Anniversary
We chose Halls Chophouse Nashville to celebrate our 20-year wedding anniversary. We even booked a room at The Conrad next door to make it a seamless and memorable evening. Unfortunately, what should have been a special night turned into a major disappointment.
When we arrived, we were led to a table inside the bar area. I politely explained that when booking through Resy, we expected to be seated in one of the main dining rooms, not the bar. The hostess walked us back to the front, where she told a manager, “They don’t want to sit at the bar.”
The manager standing in front of several hostesses responded loudly and dismissively:
“Put them at table 90 or 93. That’s all we have. If that doesn’t make them happy, I don’t know what will.”
His tone and body language made it clear he was trying to impress the young staff rather than help a guest. Still, we followed the hostess, hoping for a better experience. She led us all the way to the back of the restaurant, into what looked more like a pub-style bar.
At that point, I politely told her, “Ma’am, I don’t want to sit at a bar for my anniversary dinner. I made this reservation weeks ago because I wanted a nice dinner with my wife in a proper dining setting.” She apologized but said her manager had made it clear those were the only available tables which I had already overheard him say.
We left the restaurant and returned to our hotel. Called several restaurants trying to find a last min nice dinner at 6pm on a Friday night. We ended up finding a place and booked a uber. While waiting for an Uber to take us to a new reservation elsewhere, another gentleman from Halls came outside with menus in hand and offered to seat us immediately. I appreciated his effort, but by that point, the moment had been ruined. I explained that this would be the third attempt and that we had already rebooked dinner and ordered an uber.
I also shared with him that I’ve dined at Halls multiple times, including hosting a dinner event for 14 people with my employees there in the past. I’ve never experienced such disrespect, disregard, and embarrassment, especially in front of my wife on such a meaningful night.
As a local Nashvillian, it felt like Halls has lost sight of hospitality operating more like a tourist spot that assumes most guests won’t return due to not living here. Unfortunately, that assumption is correct for us, we won’t be returning and I’ll be sharing this experience with my professional and personal network.
Nashville has too many outstanding fine dining establishments that truly value their guests to tolerate this level of arrogance and poor management. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, this was an absolute disappointment from...
