Besides being sticker-shocked with a $50 bill for three drinks, I'm even more shocked at Emily, the GM (oddly she neglected to sign her surname) replying to my concern over the added gratuity. I don't have a copy of the drink menu, nor my check, to confirm if it states a 20% gratuity would be added to all checks no matter party size. It's pretty dark in there, so menus and tabs are hard to read. After putting a candle near the check in this very dark speakeasy, I saw that a line near the total stated an added gratuity. It wasn't verbalized, so I almost added a tip on top of it. We all know the restaurant industry got hit hard with Covid. I worked in the industry almost all my life. I've heard dozens and dozens of people complain that some businesses appear to be taking advantage of customers by adding at least a 20% gratuity to all sorts of orders. I'm just in total disbelief that a GM would actually come out and state it very clearly to me that we, as consumers, must foot the bill because the wages paid by their employers are not enough to compensate them.
My email: Hello, We came in last night for a round of drinks On Nashville Guru, it states an updated confirmation as of September that you do happy hour. Besides that somehow not being true/valid, I was in shock that a 20% gratuity was added to a party of 3 ordering just one round! We ordered at the bar, brought our own drinks to our table, returned our glasses to the bar and paid. Therefore, the bartender got a great tip for making three drinks "which is his job"! I also was not informed gratuity was added and almost added more. We are locals that frequented often prior to COVID and feel a bit taken advantage of.
Old Glory reply: I'm so sorry it was a disappointing evening. Unfortunately I can't control Nashville Gurus info or content. We got rid of happy hour after Covid because we had to close for so many months it just didn't feel necessary to continue to discount items. We needed to make money to keep the doors open. As far as the gratuity it's a similar story, it IS "their job" and the majority of money they make is from tips for providing the quests with this service. After Covid we noticed that the tips were not enough to compensate our staff. This is becoming more customary in the industry. The gratuity is listed on the menu and on the receipt. Again, my apologies it was not the experience you were expecting. I appreciate your feedback and hope we will see you again. Sincerely, Emily, GM I Sent...
Read moreI was sad one evening. I sat outside Edgehill Cafe. Rain everywhere.
I saw a white rabbit dashed into Taco Mamacitas, and I followed him. His coattails flapping in the drizzle.
"I'm late. I'm late," he kept muttering, checking his clock, looking on fleek in Imogen and Willie jeans.
I opened the door, and saw him scurry down a passageway, and I bounded after him. I chased him down a dark passage and opened a heavy door, and stumbled into Wonderland.
A giant metallic shell stood in a corner, grabbing my neck and yanking it upwards. I searched and couldn't find the ceiling, so high it was. Concrete slabs laid crudely everywhere, like a giant's playpen. People milled about amiably. I looked for the White Rabbit, but he was busy ordering a drink at the bar.
I walked around, unsure whether I was in a bar, or in some trippy Brooklyn underground scene. The music poured from everywhere, and for a second, I was sure that the DJ was inside the metallic chimney. He wasn't, but he should be, replete with disco lights, spinning tunes from his Rapunzel tower, letting down his golden beats and taking us all higher.
I have no words for this place, except a great sadness that it didn't exist before. The drinks were well priced and the options many. Food came in from somewhere, but I didn't feel like eating at that point. The place has all the class, and none the pretentiousness that such joints typically attract...for now.
Later, the White Rabbit and I did shrooms in the restroom and all was well as we walked back into the...
Read moreUpon arrival the waitresses were extremely rude and unprofessional to my friends and I. Once seated the waitress didn’t greet us or introduce herself. We ordered 1 drink each as we searched for other bars to go to since the vibe was so hostile. At some point I asked if dancing was allowed in this establishment or if everyone was just choosing to stay seated since this was our first time there. The waitress rudely explained that we are in a pandemic, which I am fully aware of. I wasn’t asking if we could dance I was simply asking on a normal day is this a bar where dancing is typically allowed since they had a live DJ playing all the hits. We ask for the check so we could leave since they weren’t inviting to my group of friends which was half minority and half white. Not saying this was a race thing but she came back to the table with our checks and instigated an argument and proceeded to back us into a corner and called us out of our names ( you know the word for female dogs). We asked for the manager and some lady came out claiming she was as close to a manger as they had at the moment, she did nothing to help. She apologized and had us leave after we were the ones being attacked. The waitress continued to scream at us as we made our way up the stair case to leave the establishment. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my life. All because we asked about dancing. SMH. Zero professionalism from this...
