The last two months of voice lessons with Daniel have been fantastic; probably the best investment I’ve ever made in myself and my personal growth. Daniel has been amazing at listening to me (literally while singing but also actively communicates with me about how things feel/what he thinks I could tweak to get the results I want) and giving constructive feedback that is nothing if not productive and informative.
We’ve talked about it in our lessons, but when it comes to singing and practicing there are hard times and also completely euphoric moments of pride, disbelief, and even connection when I’m able to share what I’m practicing with my loved ones. Daniel has taken massive steps in helping me unlock my voice and build something that I’m genuinely proud of, which has been my lifelong struggle. I’m 28 and carry a lot of shame from 15 or so years of believing that my voice was simply no good, but I'm slowly learning to appreciate my voice and be at home in it. Dana's been a tremendous help in quieting my self-doubt. I’ve walked into many lessons convinced I should quit, but left super excited and re-energized to keep trying instead.
Dana is the most knowledgeable and attentive music instructor I’ve had. She’s also just a generally gifted teacher, which I define as someone who meets students where they are, teaches the whole person, and creates a safe environment to be vulnerable and try new things. She’s every bit as skilled at doing this as my favorite professors from Purdue (undergrad) and Northwestern (grad). As the Song Spot’s owner, she’s careful to hire other teachers who share her values and create the same supportive environment–I know because Michaella has also been very helpful to me for voice and...
