Took our daughter and grandkids to breakfast for Father’s Day. Only went here because our usual spot was closed for Father’s Day. We had a group of 8 people that included 4 adults and 2 kids and 2 toddlers. We are not an easy table and we understand that completely. Service was extremely slow even for the size party we had. Took drink orders and then we watched other tables that seated after us get food before they ever came to get our food order. They were out of what our son in law wanted which is ok so he substituted with the burrito. Most of the food was good. I got the Emma bowl, wife got the Lou’s bowl. Our daughter got the pancake something that had French toast and banana in it and was covered in Nutella it looked really good and she said it was. Kids all got small stuff like usual and their food was ok. The coffee was nice and strong and that was awesome. The wife and son in law did not like their food at all. It was not as described in the menu. No one asked how everything tasted and we did not want to send it back. I was just drinking coffee and water and not once got a refill on the waters so I drank mine, my wife’s and our sons water because the server didn’t come to check on us after we got our food. We ordered a side of gravy that never came out. So far it was a mediocre place that we could understand as them being busy and maybe just having a bad day. It was $135 bill and I tipped $15. I know that’s not a great tip but it is something. It reflected the service we got. I do not hold the quality of food on the server at all. We have had horrible food and great service other places and still tip 20%_25%. We did leave a 2 star on the tablet that we paid on. This is where it gets ugly and we will never go back. As we are walking out the manager/owner/ idk what he was(he brought the tablet to us to pay) chased us out the door and stopped me asking if there was a problem with our meal. I told him about the food issues and he continued to “inform” me that servers only get $2.13 and hour and the small tip doesn’t affect the kitchen just the sever. So this guy didn’t care that the food came out wasn’t good he chased us out...
Read moreOn a whim, I decided to make the drive over to Edgefield and finally give Sky Blue Cafe a shot for breakfast on a late Saturday morning. Finding parking on the street was easy, and I knew as I walked up and saw the crowd there would be more than a short wait. The friendly hostess, Brooke, informed me for a table for one there would be about a fifty-five minute wait, and she was just about right. I sipped on the coffee they had outside for guests and read the Scene while I waited.
When I was seated, I was given a two-top by the window but was also right next to the door. I got a big gust of cold wind each time the door was opened. Beggars can't be choosers!
Porkchops aren't listed on the menu, but I'm glad I ordered it served up with eggs, your choice of bread, and homefries, potatoes which were perfectly seasoned and the highlight of my meal. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I ordered a slice of French toast to accompany my more savory main plate, and I'm glad I did. Overall, I felt I was having breakfast at a friend's house with food lovingly prepared, if not expertly executed. Generally, I believe you can accurately judge a place by how well they cook their eggs, and my fried eggs were a big disappointment, over-cooked and rubbery with the yolks totally solidified. Luckily, the other items on my plate redeemed the cafe. I am glad I passed on the mimosas which were served with orange juice in a champagne flute with a mini bottle of champagne on the side that you must pour yourself. For $8 each and no refills, this seemed like a waste of money.
I enjoyed my visit, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come again unless a friend was just...
Read moreThis is a cafe indeed. Around 13 ish tables, so don’t expect to come with a large group and sit down immediately. It was just two of us and we got to sit wherever (got in right as they opened on a Sunday), but within ten minutes there were only a couple of tables left. In other words go right when it opens if you don’t want to wait or plan on enjoying some fresh air while you wait for a table to open up.
PB - coffee: I chose this place due to the claims of good coffee and ordered the strong (what I normally drink). The coffee was an honest 3.5/5 just because the flavor itself was underwhelming, but they are great at keeping my cup full and sometimes having a full cup of coffee is more important than taste (esp. at 8 am). food: French toast was your standard setup, but the strawberries and blueberries tasted like they were from the farmer’s hand.
J - I ordered the dope looking omelet (pictured). I hated it so much I ate the whole thing. It had potatoes and veggies in it and I swear the eggs tasted perfect (you can really mess up omelets and they nailed it). I also ordered a cappuccino (you can see who actually takes the pictures) and it was delicious.
We went with four stars because as you can see - mixed reviews, but solid choice still. All in all a quaint, warm cafe where the gourmet coffee pleases some and...
