I am sitting at home on Crete (Greece). I (an English guy) am putting on to my laptop my diary I wrote (and have NOT read since!!) about my drive around the US over 10 months from April '80 to February '81. I was to spend three days in Nashville - in all I spent 2 -3 months (over June July '80 and again in January February 81). During the summer I worked in Cactus Jacks, went to Close Quarters ("Hello Patti") and generally got up to all sorts. In my diary I have just made my first happy visit to Springwater; a place I have never ever forgotten. It was one of the best periods of my life. I looked on Google Map to see if it was still there. What a delight to see it was and actually see where it is located!!
So was 1919 Division Str. but the house I stayed at is now a bar - which believe me is pretty appropriate.
Thank you Springwater - it's great to see you are still...
Read moreWe paid $12 for parking then waited for 40 minutes for seating on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t that the tables were full but more that no one acknowledged the long line. Several tables were open. We were finally seated then Ignored for another 25 minutes. All the servers would slowly (zero were hustling) walk by us but never have eye contact with us. I’m certain they were afraid we’d ask them for service...they were correct. One waiter was removing one item from a table at a time....literally. Slowly at that. We soon realized this restaurant was not for us. Not even worth complaining to the manager. We left, drove to Double Dogs on 21st avenue, received free parking and were served immediately. Until management is better at Stillwater, don’t waste your time. Too many great restaurants with great service...
Read moreYoung women beware! I’ve never seen such a conglomeration of fraternity bros except when tailgating at a university football game. This location IS right next to Vanderbilt so it is expected to see lots of college aged coeds, but this was like 99% dudes.
The bar itself is super dive. Stickers, plaques, dusty trophies, and other random assortment of signs and warnings decorate the walls. There is a large pool table, a small patio, and two different bar tops, with the front one hosting nothing but Tennessee taps .
The bartender is beautiful with a great rack and long hair , and really knew the lay of the land. She was informational, quick witted, and lovely .
This bar is cash only, and beer only , but oh boy are those beers cold as ice, and so so tasty and fresh. Great, clean lines.
Big fan of this...
