Let me start by saying I was extremely disappointed. I should have looked at the reviews prior to coming to this place. Either Nashville's sense of taste is non existent or people just don't have a clue what good cooking is. My husband i I are visiting from Texas and saw the long line to get in this place. We decided to try it out because.... Who would wait in line for bad food?? Obviously a large majority of people in Nville. I ignored the red flag, once we were inside there wasn't a hint of food being cooked. It literally smelled like a old lady purse in there nonetheless, we proceeded. Now for the food... It's served cafeteria style. At first sight I was like oh no and ordered fish which was cooked to order. I specifically asked if it was catfish or swai, I was told catfish but it definitely wasn't. My husband ordered meatloaf ( ugh) and smothered pork chops which we had to immediately go to Walmart to get Pepto bismol to settle his stomach because he was sick from the time we left there. The sides were horrendous. The only enjoyable side was the fried okra. Who can mess up fried okra?? The loaded potatoes casserole was flavorless just like the greens and macaroni and cheese . Everything we ordered lacked flavor even basic salt and pepper. I'm appalled at the fact these people have been in business so long!!! To top it off , we both ordered dessert, my husband ordered a " carrot cake" and I ordered the German chocolate cake both were dry azz box cakes. They were horrible to say the least. The customer service was lack luster among all the other atrocities. If you want good seasoned food ..... Run...
Read moreI stopped here after worship Sunday. First, I went to the to go side thinking it was the cafeteria side. There was only two people in front of me. I was thinking this can't be good for there to only be two people in line after worship. Then, I noticed there were only a few dishes on the line. While waiting, I noticed a lady use some shears to cut up the chicken. That turned me off no one else had a problem with it. I finally asked if there was another section and they informed me I was in the to go section.
I made my way to the cafeteria section and the line was long. I thought this makes more sense. While in line, I looked at some of the pictures on the wall. I saw the some photos the Traveler's Green Book and Swett's was a part of it. How awesome is that!!! I finally, made it to the front of the line. I ordered the beef tips with greens, macaroni and cheese, fried cornbread, and a slice of sweet potato pie. The beef tips were tender and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was okay. I wished it had a piece of that baked cheese on top but I got the last of the macaroni and cheese out of the dish. I didn't like the greens at all. I wished I had tried the cabbage instead. I didn't eat the sweet potato pie until later that evening. That sweet potato pie was fantastic! I wished I had gotten two slices. It was so smooth...
Read moreCafeteria style meat and three, apparently has had a reputation in the past as being really good southern and soul food style cooking. It was really busy with a long line when we arrived, so I had high hopes. I got meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing with gravy, roll and cheesecake for dessert from the cafeteria style hot bar. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy were very bland, about like what you'd get from a school cafeteria. Same with the dressing; it was the blah, mushy kind served with an ice cream scoop. I was shocked when they spooned a green liquid over the top of it. Apparently this was some sort of sage gravy, and believe me when I say it was green! Which would've been ok if it'd been good. It did taste like sage, but that was the only flavor it had, and even then wasn't very strong. The meatloaf, while looking great, had the weirdest flavor I've ever tasted in a meatloaf before; I can only describe it as a strong bitter, earthy, herb flavor. I couldn't finish it, it was just so strong. The only things I had that were any good were the roll and the cheesecake, which were delicious; and I'm 98% sure were not made in-house. All of this cost me just over $20, which was pretty pricey even if it had been a good meal, which it was not. Don't even get me started on the attitude of the girl serving the food...
