This morning I went to Tri-Star centennial ER for care. I was and still is in crisis. Initially I was treated with care and respect by the resident and the RN. Then everything changed for the worse. After explaining to the RN and the resident my situation, the Attending Physician came in and stated her plan of treatment. This is after barely speaking to me. She made suggestions as to her recommendations. Please keep in mind, she did not discuss enough information with me to determine proper treatment . She told me I canât help you but I want to refer you to (another service provider) and stated there is nothing I can do for you. I explained to the attending physician that I had already done what she suggested before arriving at ER. She said again, I cannot help you. I responded, well I should not be charged for a visit if you cannot provide care for me. She said âwell you signed in and you will be chargedâ. Please keep in mindâŠI explained several times that I am in crisis. And she still proceeded to ignore my needs. So, as I was exiting room and the physician said nothing. Keep in mind, I am a patient in crisis. So I said, âso much for beside mannersâ. She said, thanks. As I exited, I asked the triage nurse about payment and she told me to speak with charge nurse. Charge nurse comes out with an attitude and when she noticed I was recording, she asked that I not record her. I turned off the recording and she asked for me to give her my phone to delete the recording. I told her no. Then she told me to leave and called for security to escort me out. By this time several other staff members were present. I said, I am black and all of you are white, âI see what this isâ She abruptly spoke and said, âhere we go again and I am married to a black man. I tried to stand my ground and again she told the officer to escort me out. Please keep in mind, I went to the ER because I am in crisis. As the officer was walking me out, he made comments to rush me off and of course he threatened to arrest me. He was making facial expressions and taunting me as I was walking away. The officer eas also white. I went in for treatment at to another hospital for care. Where I was treated with no hassle. Treating people of color is different when compared to being white is a real problem. People like me who are subjected to these actions are often ignored. In addition to being throw out of the hospital, please keep in mind that I am in crisis!! I also called Chris, the NOD and he was rude too. And I also called ER to get names of the people who were speaking with me and a female hung up on me. Keep in mind, I went in for care because I was in crisis. People, I am RN and would NEVER treat my patients this way. Never again Tri- Star...
Read moreThis was my first bad hospital visit at Centennial. I normally have great experiences but this one was by far my worst ER visit. I was not listened to nor treated for what I came in for. My Blood pressure was high the entire visit and I only knew because I monitored my own blood pressure looking at the monitor myself for 10 hours. I came in about 10am and didnât get discharged until almost 10pm. I was told they were waiting on my ct scans which was fine but my blood pressure was never addressed. I had a catheter in my arms for all those hours I was in the ER but never received any IV fluids. After I spent hours in the ER no one ever came to check on me until 6pm. I had to ask for food and ask for the catheter to be removed out of my arm because it was starting to hurt plus I was not getting fluids so it shouldâve been removed after the ct scan. The registrar walked in to sign paperwork and ended up bringing me a blanket after she noticed I was cold. After I asked the nurse for food I was then told my potassium was low . I had to listen to beeping sounds the whole time I was there but once the nurse finally came in at 6pm she said let me turn these noises off for you. The nurse finally comes in to tell me my scans were normal which was great but they had no concerns for my high blood pressure or my low potassium nor did they address why I came in to begin with feeling like my throat was closing up /trouble breathing and swollen lymph nodes. I was just told to follow up with a pcp. I feel I shouldâve been prescribed or given something during my visit at least to get the swelling down. Sore throat was put on my discharge paperwork when it was really swollen lymph nodes under the chin which was affecting me breathing and eating. I shouldâve have received something for that while in the hospital. Once I got home I realized they prescribed me ibuprofen 800 but I was not informed that they were sending anything or what for. Iâm just disappointed in my whole experience and sadly Iâll probably will never return to my former my fav ER hospital Centennial. I donât think I ever saw a doctor during my entire visits only nurses. Please train your staff. Just as the previous negative reviewer stated I also experienced what I consider discrimination I feel I was not treated or cared for well because of my race. I was also not given any iv fluids nor was I listened to. I will never go to Centennial again. I have already called the patient advocate line to file a complaint and completed surveys but I have not received a follow up call. Go to St Thomas or Vanderbilt. Do not go to Centennial if youâre experiencing a real emergency....
Read moreI had an awful experience with Edward Elliot specifically during my recent visit to the ER at TriStar Centennial. While I canât speak to the care provided by the entire staff, I do know that I will not be returning because of the way I was treated by this individual.
I was referred to the ER by an Urgent Care provider due to visible streaking and worsening pain and appearance from a foot infection. Despite my obvious discomfort and concern, Edward Elliot (a nurse practitioner, as no doctor was present) showed incredibly poor bedside manner from the start. He barely spent a few minutes in the room before inching toward the door, minimizing my condition by comparing it to a scraped knee.
He went on to make dismissive comments about how âancient Egyptians just used honey for thisâ and how people today are too quick to expect antibiotics. Not only was this irrelevant, it felt patronizing â especially since I hadnât even asked for antibiotics, I was simply following the direction of a medical professional who had already flagged this as potentially serious.
After telling us heâd prescribe a stronger antibiotic, he left without explanation. We were left unsure if he was coming back at all. Eventually, a nurse handed us a prescription with no further instructions. When we asked for a second opinion, Edward Elliot returned and seemed visibly annoyed that we had follow-up questions. I would like to mention that the ER was not busy by any means.
I left feeling dismissed, overlooked, and belittled. Everyone deserves to feel heard and taken seriously when they come to the ER â especially when directed there by another provider. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I also was not given discharge papers and when I called the ER to get the name of my NP, she was completely rude and told me I wasn't even in the system, when I was just there just 3 hours prior.
Bad experience. Will...
