Ever since our favorite breakfast spot closed their AB location, my daughter and I have been on the hunt for something new. A place we can come to, enjoy the food, the vibe, and talk about whatever is on her mind. We've always driven past Grumpy's, but after getting my hair done this weekend, we decided that was the day. It was on the way to the store and most importantly.... home! 🤣
We came in at around noon on a Saturday. It was a beautiful day, and we were both happy to see outdoor seating. As soon as we walked in, we were promptly greeted and seated (we requested Outdoor, before we were sat inside). The host was efficient, and I have no complaints with our first impression. We didn't wait long for our amazing server to come over. According to my receipt, her name was Grecia. I say that because I'm terrible at remembering names, not because she wasn't memorable. She got our drink order and gave us the time we needed to figure out our order out. I, of course, was stuck between 2 very different options that I'm sure we're equally delicious, but based on Grecias recommendation, I went with the MADD breakfast wrap while my daughter got the Kids Funfetti pancakes. My order came with a side that I chose to be hashbrowns with onions and cheese. My daughter got herself a side of bacon. For drinks: milk, OJ, and coffee, of course. The food came out in a very reasonable amount of time, and it did not disappoint. We both decided this may be the one. This may become our Saturday breakfast spot.
Things to Know: they have a great kids menu with quite a few options that are on an activity menu Kids can entertain themselves with.
They had Tabasco sauce at the table but offered Cholula and a couple of other options.
The women's room is small, only 2 stalls, so I could see that being an inconvenience during their busier times.
Everyone was friendly, the service was prompt, and the food was delicious. The portions were large, so we did take some home, and it was all just as good for eating the next day.
When they say fresh squeezed OJ, they mean it. The quality of the citrus during it visit was delicious on the day we went. The juice was sweet and not tart.
The coffee is what you'd expect from a breakfast spot, nothing fancy. Just your good cup of dinner coffee.
Even though the bathroom was small, that's my only complaint, and it's not something that will break my review or my desire to return. We will most certainly be back, probably every week.
The parking is plentiful if you get there at a good time, as we approach summer i do see that tourists may park here to walk over to the beach but that's what happens when you live in a beach town. As locals, we've learned the earlier you get somewhere, the better because it's all about timing.
The prices were good for the amount of food we got.
Grecia, you were amazing, and we hope to see...
Read moreWe were in Jacksonville for an early appointment and had to skip breakfast. After we left the clinic, we wanted to grab a diner type breakfast before heading back to the Emerald Coast. We happened upon Grumpy’s at Neptune Beach and were thoroughly impressed and elated with the unbelievably good service we received from the moment we approached the front door (which was opened for us by the welcoming smile of a lovely young lady), until we were walked through threshold of the patio opening, when we left.
Our server was Seth, and we feel fortunate that we were lucky to have him as our server. His knowledge of the expansive breakfast/lunch menus was spot on. He was proud to tell us that menu items are homemade there, and proud he should be. From the moment we sat down, he immediately acknowledged us and ask us if we had been there before. As we hadn’t, he asked poignant questions as to what we liked and offered suggestions as to the things that would fit our taste. He eased out for only a brief moment and returned with piping mugs of coffee and made sure to bring plenty of cream. We then gave him our orders and he answered our questions regarding the area of Neptune Beach, always smiling and being a tremendous ambassador for not only that magnificent diner, but that quaint little area as a whole.
Not 10 minutes later, a sweet lady with dark hair began loading up the table with large platters of the ample fare that we had ordered. Not far behind her was Seth, once again with a bright smile, bringing the last two orders. Their portions are more than favorable to the customer and the quality and flavor was most certainly top-shelf. Everything our family ordered, and I mean EVERYTHING, was fantastic. If you choose to order from the lunch menu, you’re missing out if you don’t at least get a side order of biscuits and gravy. My family eats like lumberjacks that have missed their last meal, but we had to get To Go boxes due to the generous portions.
Lastly, the Manager named Bronson came asked if we had been taken care of and how we enjoyed our food. That seems to be a busy place and I’m sure he had much more to do than to canvas a family of out-of-towners that were about to head out, but he was genuinely concerned about our experience and his interaction with each person sitting at the table was commendable; it put the icing on the cake! What a great leader and figurehead for this business. I don’t think he is the owner, but he took ownership of the situation and we felt truly appreciated as customers. We have to go back to Mayo for follow ups in a couple of months, but you can rest assured I’ll be calling ahead and making sure Seth is our server and Bronson is there. Going to try the lunch entrees next time - with a side order of...
Read moreHow come you all did not tell me how good Grumpy's is? We went to the Neptune Beach location for brunch and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing (good amount of options) and the service was top tier. It's veteran/milspo owned so the environment was family friendly and diverse. I love how they have a few games setup outside for the kids too. I met one of the owners, Tracy, and she was so engaging. You can tell she's all about having satisfied customers. I'll be going back. Please see below for my review.
Customer Service: 4.9/5 My server was great. She listened to our order and gave great suggestions. Would be a 5, but it took a little longer than I thought it would to get the bill and to go boxes.
Cleanliness: 5/5 Not much to say
Seating: 5/5 The restaurant can sit a lot of customers, but it's spacious so you don't feel like the tables are crowding eachother. They also offer outdoor seating. We went on a Wednesday around 11 am and didn't wait at all. I'm sure weekends are different.
Quality of food: 5/5 The temperature was perfect. Our food was warm enough to eat as soon as it came out, but not cold. The consistency and seasoning of the sauce on my crab Benedict was unmatched...so good. The English muffin was nice and buttery. My daughters got the waffle special of the day (brownie waffles). The waffle had a nice soft texture and slightly sweetened flavor. The brownie itself was good, like I would go there for just the brownie. The girls also got the *funfetti pancakes and they taste like cake. Lastly, that cinnamon roll was TDF...to die for.
Presentation: 5/5 (see pictures below, don't judge my lack of camera skills though lol)
Portions: 5/5 The portions were nice; enough to not leave hungry and some food to go home with.
Timeliness: 5/5 We received our food within 15 minutes of ordering.
Parking: 5/5. They have a parking lot. Handicap and veteran parking available.
Price: Pretty average prices, but again the food and service was way...
