A Solid Go-To Spot. Derby City Pizza is one of those places where you know exactly what you’re going to get—and that’s a good thing. No frills, no gimmicks—just solid, classic pizza and pizza-style sides served in a clean and relaxed setting. If you look at my photos, the pizza looks exactly like it tastes: satisfying, cheesy, and cooked just right. The half-and-half pizza we had was generously topped—one side loaded with meats and veggies, and the other a perfectly golden pepperoni. The cheese bread was equally impressive, served hot, bubbly, and full of flavor.
The inside of this particular location is clean and welcoming, with plenty of seating and several TVs mounted around for a casual dining experience. It’s the kind of place that’s perfect for a laid-back night out, family dinners, or grabbing a bite with friends to catch a game.
Price-wise, Derby City hits that sweet spot. It’s affordable without skimping on portion size or taste. While it might not be the most gourmet pizza in town, it’s consistent and reliable—good enough to make it a regular stop when you’re craving pizza that hits the spot.
The staff is always friendly and helpful, which adds to the overall experience. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth, you’ll feel welcomed and taken care of. All in all, Derby City Pizza is a dependable, tasty option when you just want some good pizza...
Read moreI’m going to be honest; this place is great for the money. I read through a bunch of the comments and was waiting for this place to have its issues but I didn’t see any problems at all. I think part of the problem is it seems everyone is expecting a 3 star Michelin restaurant or something. This is a local chain that had good food at a good price. It tastes like what you’d friends mom would make. Not the best food ever, but it’s cheesy and meaty and good.
We got cheesy breadsticks, a small chicken bacon ranch pizza, their lasagna, 2 beers, and a slice of derby pie (the real kind from Kerns Kitchen!). It was $50. was it the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life? No. Was the lasagna made with the most expensive imported ingredients from Italy? No. Was it good food for the price? Oh yeah 100%. I saw someone’s review saying the lasagna wasn’t good because it had “too much meat”. Personally, I love a good meaty cheesy lasagna. Maybe it wasn’t authentic, but it tasted great.
Overall, 5/5 stars. Don’t go hear if you’re expecting the worlds best Italian food. Do go here if you want tasty Italian food for a good price. Oh, and one last thing, for what it’s worth, the owner seems to really actually like the Louisville area. Like this place had a bunch of New Albany focused stuff. It’s nice when people actually take price in...
Read moreWe went to Derby City Pizza in New Albany on a Saturday night that had several local college games being broadcast. It was a busy night. We were met with courtesy and warmth. We sat down and ordered drinks and an appetizer: pretzel bites with jalapeno dipping sauce. The waitress acknowledged our son and was very kind and attentive. He has special needs and also has some peculiar dietary issues. The staff at Derby City Pizza more than cooperated with this. I mentioned he is rocking the tism and she was taken aback. It is what it is and we embrace him and how he is.
We went to order pizza (the thing we came there for) and let me tell you: they allow you to split specialty pizzas. Like you can get half meats and half veggie or half cheese and half veggie. At no extra charge. This is novel and appreciated. The pizza came out in a reasonable time period and it was delicious. The waitress did not hover and was very knowledgeable about their products.
Overall, I would highly recommend anyone who loves pizza to here and give...
