Ginza Japan — Restaurant in New Bern

I live on the other side of the state but would gladly drive back to have this place again! I’m a truck driver and just delivered a load to the Walmart next door. I was out of drive time and was starving so I looked around and found what appeared to be a hole in the wall place and I found a goldmine!! I got there a little under an hour before close and was treated so wonderfully! The young lady was very patient with me and gave me some great recommendations on what to order. I ended up getting the sushi bento box, a smoked salmon sushi roll, and some fried calamari for an appetizer. Starting with the calamari, it was super fresh, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The sweet chili sauce was the perfect complement to the dish. The sushi roll was also super fresh, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful! I could tell the fish used was fresh and the texture and taste was perfect. The bento box came with soup, salad, rice, gyoza, and a California roll alongside the 6 pieces of sushi. The miso soup was the perfect temperature, not cold at all. Didn’t seem that it had been sitting all day. It was great. The salad was a basic iceberg salad with ginger dressing but the dressing made it wonderful. The gyoza was soaked in a sauce that was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. The rice was not dry, overcooked, or bland. It had a great texture as well as flavor. The California roll was your basic California roll but was good nonetheless. The sushi…..was…..AMAZING!! Salmon was perfect! The tuna was perfect! Crab was out of this world! The server was wonderful, very polite, and didn’t rush me at all. She was quick to make sure I had everything I needed and wasn’t overbearing at all! This is the epitome of great service!!

To conclude, if I could give this place more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! The food was 10/10 A+++, service was 10/10 A+++, even the atmosphere! It was very clean. Restrooms were clean as well! If you’re ever in New Bern, NC and want to try a new place, it’s definitely...

We got take out last night called placed our order were told 20 min, we had our 2 small children at the park so we ended up there about 25/30min after we placed our order. My husband waited over an additional 30 min waiting to pick up our food. I had 2 SCREAMING children in the car while we waited. I get having to wait a tad longer but obviously whoever was giving wait times was not aware how backed up they were. On top of this the food was just not that great, it was dry the shrimp I found a few shrimp had tails on while others didn't. The spicy Kani roll was not spicy, very upsetting after spending $50+ on food. What's worse is I've been there for lunch and they were good, just not the greatest experience.

To reply to the owners response,I wish I could just reply to it like normally; I get what day it was, we knew it would be busy However I work in the service industry that when you staff properly and adjust your times. Waiting over an hour for Togo food that we kept being told was ready just needed bagged is unacceptable. Also I mention some of my shrimp had tails not all, so if they were all supposed to not sure how that happened. Your server needs to be telling customers this not assuming we know they come with tails, but the fact that you have nothing to say on the quality of the food is rather sad. After spending 50$ on supposed valintines day food for my family il never go there again after these excuses, definitely not worth the money we paid or the time we wasted...

I love a bento box. Not too many places carry them so when I see the option I have to stop and try it. Ginza Japan is a place I’ve passed many times and never thought to go in. It is a small place, limited seating but there’s enough booths, tables and bar seats they make it work. I went around 3:45 and couldn’t believe how busy it was. Always a good sign. The wait staff is super attentive and helps you as soon as you’re ready to order which I appreciate. The menu is great for sushi and hibachi and the bento boxes come with numerous choices. I went with the shrimp tempura and fried rice. You get 3 gyoza and California rolls, soup and salad. It is alot of food. It arrived in a timely manner and everything was so fresh and well made with quality ingredients and flavor! The shrimp came with tempura mixed veggies which was a nice suprise and as someone who doesn’t need a ton of shrimp having the 2 shrimp tempura was actually the perfect amount with the veggies. Those ordering shrimp tempura and expecting 4 or 5 shrimp tempura only may be disappointed. I ate it all because it was that good. I’m still stuffed 4 hours later writing this review. I wish they served alcohol then it would be truly perfect. I look forward to coming again when the opportunity arises. Oh and all this food came to $15.95....
