Not sure how this place is getting 5-star reviews. First, the good. The staff was friendly and prompt, the Hot sour soup was not bad, and you really can't beat the prices. I ordered the lunch combination of sesame chicken and Mongolian beef which comes with fried rice and an egg roll. So now we get to the bad. The sesame chicken and Mongolian beef were swimming, drowning, in a sweet brown sauce. It could have been a second soup dish...to make my point. It was so overpowering you could not taste if you were eating chicken or beef. That said, if they dramatically reduced the amount of sauce...the sauce does have decent flavor. Which brings me to the proteins. The chicken that I was able to taste was nice with a decent crisp...but died in the amount of sauce. The beef...did NOT taste good at all. It had a real chewy texture like it had been heated, frozen and reheated again in the microwave...which could be tasted even through the sauce. The egg roll was pretty good if it were an appetizer bite.... it's about half the size of a typical egg roll. And the fried rice...I think it's fried rice... I've never in my life seen orange fried rice. It doesn't look fried, it doesn't taste fried...it doesn't resemble any fried rice I've had anywhere in the world...but again, it does have some decent flavor. Now we get to the ugly. The place is dirty. Not the table surfaces, those appear to be cleaned regularly. The floors look like they haven't been cleaned in years. The air vents look like they aren't aware they exist with visible clumps, layers of clumps, of dust accumulated. I'd hate to see the kitchen with how badly the front of the house is neglected. The men's bathroom rivals any gas station on I35 (not named buccees) for it's cleanliness. I ate there today and my stomach is jumping all over the place. With some tweaks (ridiculously less sauce would be one), there is some potential here. But the place needs to be MUCH cleaner before I will eat...
Read moreThis was the most unreal Chinese restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Immediately upon walking in the doors, we noticed the hostess (Don't know if she's still there) had no shoes on and after showing us to our sticky dirty table, went ahead and laid town under a table near the front and watched videos on her phone. The next humongous red flag was the bottle of Heinz Ketchup sitting on the table. I'm not above using ketchup on food but if you need Ketchup for Chinese food, it can't be that great. We ordered and the food came out quickly which was the best thing up to that point! But we were shocked almost instantly when one of my family members put their fork into the food and the rock hard piece of chicken launched off the plate and straight over the the table top of the table next to us. We laughed hysterically for the next 5 minutes but when they tried again the fork bent and the second piece of chicken went flying off the table which sent us all over again! The staff looked at us like we were lunatics and to be completely honest, with the way we were laughing we probably did look like lunatics and some! But once we calmed down again we all tried to eat our plates we all felt that our food was over cooked, dry, and just lacked flavor. We paid for our food and settled for Panda Express a couple blocks down since we weren't feeling bold enough to try a new to us Chinese food place. Things might have changed there since then but I know that I don't plan on returning to Peking. Food 1/10...
Read moreWe love it hear, & have been going for years. The food, for quality & quantity is great. They've only gone up in price once in all the years we've been coming, & yet still one of the most afordable then anywhere else. We come from out of town to eat here quite offten for chinese food. Love the service too, such sweet people. The owners & sometimes their children run this business. It's a wonderful local mom & pops staple in the New Braunfels area. Its my # 1, of our top 10 favorite's here to visit while in town. As of 12/8/24......... Only thing is the serving sizes are getting a little smaller. For what we paid for a dinner plate the last few times has been less then the lunch plate size for the up price for dinner. That's been a little disappointing. But Still the best prices around for good decent chinese food, we don't even have a comparable afordable place where we live, so its still worth the drive for us. Not to mention service is pretty good, no matter who serves us. We've practically watched the kids that serve grow up, they are such a sweet little family. We love supporting local mom & pop places like this, NB wouldn't be as great without them! They make this little town a little better each...
