I’m a senior in high school this year, and my mom and I wanted to tour a bunch of colleges over the summer — one of them being Yale! We had to use the bathroom while walking around campus, so we happened to come across this restaurant. We were allowed to use the bathroom without needing to buy anything, but we still got ice cream just for the fun of it. Yorkside’s ice cream was delicious, actually! They have a unique variety of flavors and the classics in stock as well. An amiable woman, whom I believe is one of the owners, approached us when we entered. My mom and I had a great conversation with her, and she and her husband were able to help us navigate our way throughout the campus and provide us with some guidance. After visiting Yale, we went to a beach an hour away for a decent amount of time. It was about 10:00 at night, and we were starting to get hungry. Long story short, we went back here to grab dinner. This was our first time in Connecticut, so both of us had no idea where we wanted to eat. We got their pizza, fried mozzarella sticks, and fries, all of which were delicious! I enjoyed the atmosphere in that restaurant; everyone was so, so, so kind — from employees to customers. Compared to many other pizza places I’ve been to, this place is definitely well above average. My favorite part, however, was getting to talk to the owner. She is really a...
Read moreOn July 23 I decided to dine my family at this wonderful pizzeria between 8/9pm. The food was great the atmosphere was great. Most employees seemed to be having a great night with the smiles on their face. Upon my family and I leaving the restaurant our waiter ( a young Caucasian male who served us in the back) came outside yelling and screaming racial profiling questioning why we didn’t tip him also screaming next time for us to dine at a place we can afford because he only makes $6 a hour. I kindly explained to the young man IN MY CULTURE TIPPING IS NOT ALLOWED AS WE VALUE EXCELLENT SERVICE WITHOUT THE EXPECTATION OF A FINANCIAL TIP WHICH CAN BE OFF PUTTING AND CONSIDERATE RUDE. So not only did this young worker make a racial profiling comment DINE IN AT A PLACE YOU CAN AFFORD ( due to my in laws being of African American background ) I AM JAPANESE AND I HAVE TAUGHT MY IN LAWS ABOUT MY CULTURE IN WHICH WE FOLLOW THROUGH WITHON MY CULTURE PRACTICE.
This young man should understand he works downtown New Haven across from Yale University he will come in contact with several more culture backgrounds so it’s best he learn to appreciate what his daily wages are and not offend someone’s family discrediting disrespecting and being rude....
Read moreDo not come here unless absolutely desperate. Most of the items I’ve ordered I never finished because they tasted so off. The potato salad tasted old, the pizza is thick and just weird tasting (who the hell said in another review that it’s some of the best in New Haven?? Are you on drugs??), and the tuna sandwich was pretty bad with tasteless rye bread. The only good things I’ve had were the watermelon feta gazpacho (but with so little feta on it) and the side pita bread. The burger was fine, especially for the price, but they don’t even have cheddar cheese. ???? Really strange that a place that does grinders and burgers never carries cheddar cheese.
It’s known to locals as mediocre, and unfortunately they have the prime real estate on campus to keep themselves in business, but their food gives Yale a bad name when tourists visit and it’s the easiest place to go. I know multiple people who have gotten or at least felt sick from eating here, and it’s not as if the service is consistently super friendly. There’s one nice girl who works there, but there’s a woman who seems so miserable I actually feel bad for coming in and bothering her with my...
