I didn't get to eat here but Alexis at Gus's earned them a 5 star review from me for her act of kindness towards me.

Here's my story: For those of you that may not know I have been working on getting a temporary residency card in Mexico for months now.

Quick review: Made an appointment at Mexican consulate in Atlanta on March 3.  Was told I made the wrong "type" of appointment and was sent home.

Contacted and worked with an attorney in Cozumel who got me an appointment at the New Orleans consulate on June 1. Wrong type of application. Sent home.

Got a new appointment at the New Orleans consulate on July 12. Wrong application. Again. Filled out new application and printed out a document to give to them that they ALREADY HAD and was granted a visa.

The story is not about my visa or its struggles however it is about a woman named Alexis.

As you can see from above, the consulate is very strict on how things are done. You must have $51 in cash to pay for the visa.  At my first appointment in New Orleans I had it exactly.

I thought I had put the $51 in the visa folder I carried around all these months but the money was not in the folder when I opened it last week.  Luckily I had some cash on me but not a single $1 bill.

So I went to buy water at the hotel ... I got it for free because they did not have change for a $20.

It's 9am in New Orleans and believe it or not NOTHING around S Peter Street is open.

But I managed to wander into Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. Asked for change and was told the drawer was ready to open. Asked anyone if they had change for $20.  About 10 people were there and no one said yes.

Then I met Alexis.  She asked, "Do you just need $1?" I said yes.  She went out to her car and brought me $1 in change.  I tried to give her the $20 bill I had for the change and she said no.

Today I am mailing Alexis her $1, a little interest included and thanking her again for being such a kind person as to give this stranger $1.

If you find yourself in New Orleans go by and ask for Alexis at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken and give her a hell of a tip after you eat.  If you feel compelled, go give Gus's a 5 star Google review right now for Alexis' act...

On a sister date with my sister we decided to go to Gus Chicken. I have been to Gis multiple times and it have always been delicious. Today's visit was different from any other visit due to covid restrictions. They had a 30min wait because they can only have 5 tables open which is understandable. The wait became a little linger because they had a table for 4 sitting down for over 2 hours but we were patient but still hungry. When we finally got a chance to sit down we were greeted with a warm smile and some jokes from our female waiter (wish I remembered her name). She offered a free appetizer due to the long wait which was very nice. We ordered our drinks and she told use about the Memphis special which was 4 legs and 2 sides for $10.25 which is something we couldn't pass up. We got our drinks and food in a timely fashion and oh my gosh the food was delicious per usual. Chicken was crispy as every, mac and cheese was cheesy goodness and the bake beans had a nice flavoring of brown sugar. DELICIOUS! The had some nice 90s R&B music playing and me and my sister was singing the entire time while we ate. It was tasty and definitely worth the wait. But one thing for sure is that I cant wait for the city to open up fully so we can eat in peace with less restrictions. I would recommend, definitely worth it.

This Place Was a Well Hidden Gem..💎.. The Food Was Excellent 👌 and they Served Us In about 6 -8 mins and we were a Party if 3 Adults and 3 Children.. This was in the Evening During Bayou Classic/Thanksgiving Weekend with a Very Crowded City..So Kudos.. however I Brought other Relatives in on Monday and the Place Was Much More Crowded but with Much slower Service.. it Actually looked as if they were Giving Our Orders away to Take out I had to Call the Waiter on this.. And eventually we were Served.. I did NOT SEE Any of the Evening staff from my First visit . so Perhaps the Day Shift needs to Get Up to Speed with the Evening Crews Excellent Service.. All in all even with the Wait the food Came and Was Outstanding and we Left Very Satisfied so I would Still Rate All 20's and Ask Management To work on Ensuring Service Is Top Priority.. I will Definitely Be Back and Tell Other Friends about the Great food.. Please Give them a Try when you are in Our Beloved City.. The first night/Evening Saturday I think.. we Had a Young Man With Braids . He was EXCELLENT.. Suggested ALL THE BEST THINGS ON THE Menu and Even Suggested Our favorite drinks.. He Gave Above Great Service . he was the Reason I Came Back with Additional family on Monday.. Very Satisfied Experience.....

Very good food. Very good, not great. There are a few gas station food marts in the NOLA area that have fried chicken that will knock your socks off. Gus's was very good but will not knock your socks off. Server was OK. Nice young man. Just tentative and not professional. Did not have good menu knowledge. Poor training, or maybe no training at all. Fried pickle spears were excellent. Potato salad was very average. Atmosphere was very nice. My chicken leg was fresh and very hot, but my 2 thighs were just warm and gave the illusion of being cooked 15-20 minutes sooner than the leg. It was good, I'm glad we tried it but probably not a place I'd return to. I understand the chain started in Tennessee. We are huge fans of Hattie B's Hot Chicken, so that's why we tried this place. They can't touch Hattie B's fried chicken, in my opinion. I'm only comparing the quality of the fried chicken in that statement, these are two completely different styles of fried chicken, but Hattie B's Hot Chicken HAS to start with great fried chicken. And I like it a lot more than Gus's.
