🗓️ July 2025 🥖 Food Review: Killer PoBoys at Erin Rose
Location: New Orleans, LA Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
🍽️ Food Quality — ★★☆☆☆ Braised beef debris PoBoy didn’t land for me. Somehow dry and wet at once—uninspired texture, and the pickled beans didn’t help the balance. Kettle chips may have their fans, but they didn’t elevate the plate for me.
💬 Service — ★★☆☆☆ Service was indifferent, at best. The person taking my order brought more attitude than attentiveness. No urgency, no pride—it felt like food was being passed, not presented.
🎮 Atmosphere — ★★★★★ Where they do shine: dive bar vibes, dim lighting, and strong visuals. Abstract artwork gave the walls character, and tucked-away food service in the back added to that “if you know, you know” energy. Gaming stations added a cool, unexpected layer.
📍 Location — ★★★★☆ Central and easy to find. A neighborhood anchor if you’re bar-hopping, people-watching, or catching late-night bites.
🏷️ Highlights • Ambience is dive-bar excellent • Interesting art and tucked-away charm • Service and food didn’t match the space’s potential
TLDR: Killer PoBoys at Erin Rose is giving cool corner bar energy, but that vibe didn’t extend to the plate or the service. If you’re stopping in for drinks and visual flavor, it’s a win. Just don’t expect the food to...
Read moreI had sprained my ankle pretty bad to the point where I had been on crutches for the past three weeks. I had planned my NOLA trip for a month, and I didn't want to cancel. Because I couldn't walk far from the hotel, I was happy to find taht Killer Poboys was only a block away.
Enter the bar and go straight to the back room. That's where you'll find them. The menu is small, and delicious. I got the pork belly and the sweet potato the next day. My sister got the shrimp poboy twice.
The back room is very small, and there aren't a lot of places to sit. I think you can eat in the bar, but there's a drink minimum. If you can't find a place to sit and don't want to drink at that bar, best to just get the poboy to go.
I really liked the flavors, and I liked the banh mi influence. The pork belly had a sweet glaze, and the sweet potato was both savory and sweet.
The lines get pretty long, so the wait can be awhile. But...
Read moreI give the Killer Poboys on Conti, the hidden gem located in the back of Erin Rose, 5 stars. The main hub on dauphine is 4 stars. I love the fact that Erin rose and Killer Poboys teamed up. This location gets the extra star for that collaboration and the cool back room vibe. It's so good I always forget to take a pic!!
I've had both the shrimp and the pork belly poboys. Which is better? It pretty much comes down to a coin flip. I first went on my first visit to Nola when I was on a cross country road trip.
Having never been to Nola, I was excited for my first authentic poboy. A friend recommended Johnnys poboys in the quarter, but in 2015 they were closed for some reason. My friend who I was traveling with then googled for the best poboy in the quarter and we saw we were near killer. What a happy accident.
I've now made sure to bring every new comer to New Orleans experience Killer Poboys and it's backroom charm...
