Liuzza’s by the Track: A Fun, Flavorful Local Hangout
Liuzza’s by the Track is an eclectic place to spend an evening, where you can experience an appreciate a lively, authentic New Orleans atmosphere. This neighborhood bar and grill delivers great food, a welcoming vibe, and a real sense of community.
While we didn’t try any appetizers this time, the Fried Green Tomatoes at the table next to us looked fresh and perfectly crispy—something we’ll definitely have to try next time.
Now, onto the food. My son had been raving about the Reuben Sandwich, claiming it was one of the best in the city. He was absolutely right. This was a generously sized sandwich, packed with juicy roast beef, crispy sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and a homemade Thousand Island dressing, all served on beautifully marbled rye toast. Every bite was rich, tangy, and incredibly satisfying. We paired it with a large order of hand-cut fries and were pleasantly stuffed by the end of the meal.
My wife had the Liuzza’s House Burger, a well-seasoned patty with bell peppers and grilled onions. Cooked to her liking, it was served on a soft, fresh bun with those same fantastic hand-cut fries. A simple, well-executed burger that hit the spot.
Now for the rest of the experience—wow, what a fun place! The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the lively energy of the restaurant. Multiple TVs were showing soccer, and the atmosphere had a real “Cheers” feel to it. As people entered, they were met with enthusiastic shouts from waitresses, bartenders, and even other patrons. Many were greeted by name, clearly regulars who consider this their go-to spot.
Our waitress was outstanding—funny, welcoming, and full of personality. When I asked about the Reuben, mentioning I’d “heard” it was the best, she playfully warned me that if I disagreed, we’d have to arm-wrestle—she claimed to be undefeated! That kind of humor and warmth made us feel like we had been coming here for years.
I will say, the conversation and banter had a certain level of “colorful language,” making it clear this is more of an adult bar atmosphere. But nothing was offensive—just lively and full of personality.
If you want to experience where the locals eat, drink, and hang out, Liuzza’s by the Track is well worth the visit. The food is fantastic, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is as fun as it gets. We’ll...
Read moreI just wanted to share my experience this past weekend visiting New Orleans for Jazzfest. I’m a regular at Liuzza’s by the Track — it’s always been a go-to stop for me before and after the Fest. The drinks are strong, the vibe is fun, and I usually meet great people there.
That said, I had a frustrating experience this time. I ordered two margaritas at $9 each — $18 total — and asked the bartender if she could break a $100 bill. She said yes, so I handed it to her. She came back with $51 in small bills. I left a $3 cash tip right away and in front of her, assuming the change was correct, then stepped to the side and counted it to put in my wallet while she helped the next customer. That’s when I realized I was shorted.
When I confronted her the first time, she was apologetic and quickly handed me more cash — but even then, she was still short by at least $30. I had to go back two more times after that, each time counting the money out in front of her to show the mistake. Every time I did, she became more visibly annoyed with me, as if I was the one making things difficult. I’m not sure if she was intoxicated or just overwhelmed — the confusion was obvious — and my friend started to wonder what was going on before I finally received the correct change.
She was wearing black and white clown face paint (part of the festive Jazzfest atmosphere — lots of staff were dressed up), so she should be easily identifiable. I was there on Saturday May 3rd, in the afternoon between 2 and 3pm.
For context, I’ve worked in high-volume bars in NYC and Boston for years. I understand how chaotic things can get during big events like this. But this wasn’t a complicated order, and basic cash handling should not require four separate interactions just to make it right. It felt like I had to hover at the bar and repeatedly interrupt her just to be given my correct change.
Also worth noting: this place is cash only, which makes accurate handling of money even more important. During a massive event like Jazzfest, that kind of system with unreliable transactions feels questionable at best.
I still love Liuzza’s and plan to return, but this really soured the experience. I hope management takes this seriously and takes a closer look at who’s behind the bar during high-traffic weekends… because it shouldn't take four tries to get basic...

I wish I could review their food, but I never made it that far. Entered with my wife and heard the server tell 2 people in front of us if they were eating outside they can place a to go order at the bar. We noticed a table was leaving and we had a party of 6 and asked if we could merge tables and were rudley told we couldn't. My wife didn't want to be served by such a rude person so we decided to order to go and dine outside.
After compiling the orders from my party I walk up to the bar to order. The lady behind the bar saw me approach and walked toward some other patrons to close their tab. Then went to another table to check on them. Okay... So maybe she was busy. I waited and waited and even saw her glance up at the mirror behind the bar long enough to mean mug me and then walk away again.
So the original rude server walks behind the bar and past me. I asked "Can I place a to go order with you to dine outside." I was flat out ignored and she started up a conversation with the lady right next to me who I can only assume is a regular as she was showing the aforemention rude server photos on her phone. Again I asked" "Can I place a to go order with you? "
Instead of answering my question she goes said "What do you want?" Not sure if she was asking for my order, being her normal rude self and because I was overall pretty ticked off at being treated with such little respect I responded "food!"
She replied, "I know! What kind of food?" to this I responded "I have no interest dining here, f- this place" and walked out.
I can only assume this place isn't accepting new clients! It's one thing to be feel out of place because you're not a regular, it's a whole other to be...
