So, I am an out of towner. We came in with a party of 7. I have no problem with auto added gratuity when you have an attentive server. Which we did not have the luxury of having. We initially arrived, she came and took or order, and we were brought our ordered drinks and food. She came back and checked on us 1 time to see if we needed anything else and we ordered another round of drinks, just water coke, beer, and 1 mixed drink. After 20 min we had not gotten our drinks, we waved down another server to try to see if he could get our waitress to get our drinks. It's hard to eat food when you have nothing to drink. She finally brought our drinks and we continued our meal. We didnt see her again after that, and we were ready to go.. one of the people at our table tried get her attention while she was leaving another table but could not. We again had to flag down another waiter to get her. After about 5-10 min of waiting, I called the front stand, because we were upstairs and asked to talk to a manager, and advised them of the situation. They let me know they were coming to the table, but never did. We finally received our check and they advised us that they do not split checks, which would have been nice to know when we arrived. She said they can take split payments, but could only take 3 cards which meant 1 person had to pay cash. We gave her our cards and advised of how much the charge was, and she still could not manage to get that correct. Our total was 415 with the 20 % auto added gratuity. 1 person paid 115 cash so that each card could be charged 100 even (totaling 300). When we all received our cards back we, my husband and I, were charged 175, another paid 125 and another paid 75, totalling well over 300, (together we had paid $515). Our table was over charge $100. I can only assume our waitress pocketed the cash that was given to her. Overall experience was lacking and service from the server was horrible, name is on the receipt. Which is sad because the food was pretty good, but definitely not worth it. I will be calling them to try to get it situated on Monday as I...
Read moreFor our last supper in New Orleans, we wanted to eat some oysters. This place was nearby and had great reviews, so we decided to check it out. There was a small line out front, and we were told it would be about a 10 minute wait. No issue! When we got inside, we knew exactly what we wanted to order, since they have menus available outside where you are waiting. Our drink orders took quite a while to come, but I know bars can easily get swamped, especially in New Orleans. Our service was good and the restaurant had a great atmosphere with real candles.
Street Tea: This was their take on a Long Island Iced Tea. It was okay, but I would not order it again. My friend got their drink made with pineapple juice, and it was great!
Louisiana Crawfish Bread: This was life changing. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. PLUS it was teeming with melty cheese, delicious sauce, and seafood chunks. We devoured this bread in about 3 minutes. A must have!
Charbroiled Oysters: We ordered these after a recommendation from a tour guide. They are a must have in NOLA for a reason. The slight char flavor, mixed with butter and Parmesan cheese made these oysters the table favorite. The French bread was immediately dipped in all the juices left in the shells and on the plate, and a good time was had by all. There were definitely some sounds that were uttered at the table that may not have been family friendly. AMAZING!
Bienville Oysters: These oysters were also very good. They were savory and very flavorful!
Southwestern Oysters: Another winner! The spice wasn't overbearing, and the flavors were well balanced.
Crawfish Rockefeller: Can you even go wrong with oysters topped in crawfish? We had to wait a little while for these babies, and they were worth the wait.
All of the oysters were fantastic, and you really can't go wrong with any of the options. This was definitely the best decision we made on our last day in the Big Easy, and if we return to the area, we will be...
Read moreA Pearl of a Place: Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar and Fish House Shines Bright!
Last night, I had the immense pleasure of dining at Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar and Fish House in New Orleans, and let me tell you, it was an experience for the senses. From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in an atmosphere that perfectly balanced vibrant energy with cozy comfort. The star of the evening, however, was the food. Each dish seemed to sing with the freshness of the sea. The highlight for me was the Fried Fish plate – a dish that can often go awry but here, it was absolute perfection. The catfish was crispy without being greasy, tender yet firm, and so flavorful that I’m convinced it was caught just hours before hitting my plate. This was hands-down the best fried catfish I’ve tasted in years, and my taste buds are still doing a happy dance!
The evening was made even more delightful by the stellar service provided by Kashmir. She was the epitome of hospitality – always there when we needed her, yet never hovering. Her timing was impeccable, her recommendations spot-on, and her cheerful demeanor was infectious. Kashmir’s service was like a masterclass in attentiveness and efficiency. She managed to anticipate our needs with a kind of sixth sense, and her friendly charm added a wonderful personal touch to our dining experience. It’s rare to find a server who so perfectly enhances the meal without stealing the spotlight, but Kashmir did just that.
To top it all off, the ambiance at Mr. Ed’s was just right. The music set the perfect tone – lively enough to add to the fun, but at a volume that allowed for easy conversation. It was the ideal backdrop for a meal that I wished would never end. If you find yourself in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and head straight to Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar and Fish House. And if you’re lucky enough to have Kashmir as your server, consider it a double win. This place has earned a top spot in my heart, and I’ll be back for that unbeatable fried fish – and the wonderful vibes –...
