First, let me start off by saying the owner Karl and his wife was very welcoming and nice! My wife and I were in New Orleans for a short weekend trip staying in the French Quarters and decided after a couple of days of fried seafood, gumbo, crawfish, beignets and many other well delicous foods we decided to try this vietnamese place out. This is self service restaurant not full service but in a sense it felt like full service because the owners and workers kept asking us how we were doing and checking in to see how the food was. The inside decor is very modern and comfy. I like how the seatings are set up. The restaurant is next to one of the best teaching hospitals in the United States. Hence, not full service and the seats being set up in a way to accommodate rush hour. I live on the outskirts of Boston and eat all types of asian foods regularly. This place made me felt like I was back home. The pho and shrimp & pork spring rolls was delicious. To my surprise, their bun thi nuong (rice vermicelli with charred pork) with egg rolls was amazing. These three dishes felt like it was made specially to the way we liked even though we made no side requests. Again, this is not full service so no tip is required but you should tip if you think they're is doing a great job. We talked to Karl and his wife and they shared their life experiences and how the restaurant came to be here today. We learned a lot about the restaurant and the history behind it. It was a special moment we won't forget. This place is above a 5 stars but that's all I'm permitted to give. Thanks Pho Tau Bay for the delicious foods and experience! When we're back in town, there's no question this is on our top place to eat! Forgot to add one thing, the prices here is not expensive at all. It won't break the bank. We paid under $30 for an appetizer and two entrees.

05/28/2024: I always attempt to order/get Vietnamese food when I travel just to experience what it tastes like in that particular locale. I’m in NOLA for work and spotted Pho Tau Bay nearby with good reviews. I think it was at 4.6 when I looked them up on Google. I order a couple of dishes for dinner and work lunches. I got pho, banh mi, goi cuon, and xoi The pho had no aromatic or beefy flavors. It barely tasted like pho. The meat, noodles, and veggies were all standard. The broth was terribly disappointing. The xoi was okay and nothing particularly special. The banh mi was lacking meat, but the pate was surprisingly the tastiest part. The tofu goi cuon was also standard. I really liked the hoisin/peanut sauce. The food overall was mediocre and I would not go or order from Pho Tau Bay. I wanted to bring my work colleagues to this spot since it’s close to my work, but that is not going to happen. Also the prices were WAY HIGH. I don’t want to even say how much I paid with tip. I did appreciate the food arriving fast and packaged well.

We are tourists with two small children. I called before arriving asking if it was safe to walk in this neighborhood while pushing a stroller. They said yes. After I ordered, they told me they suggest to take an Uber back to the hotel because it gets sketchy. We changed our order to take out and all I did was worry about our safety while waiting. So, by their own admission, this place is not child friendly for safety reasons. My partner went to order appetizers and then tried to cancel after we discovered I already ordered the same item. After charging full price for a half order, the employee said he could not refund his mistake even though he placed the order 30 seconds ago. It was easily possible to do so but he chose not to. As for the food, it is substandard and did not taste authentic. The beef cubes were almost all well done and the spring rolls were not the best. I eat Vietnamese food all the time and this ain’t it. I will never go back.

My wife and I was in New Orleans for a conference and we decided to come here for Pho before we leave. We were very disappointed with our trip to this place! Also, if you are friends with the people of this business PLEASE DON'T WRITE INACCURATE REVIEWS ANYMORE because it doesn't help visitors like us.

Location: it is situated in the back of a parking lot next to what I believe is a local (ghetto) mechanic shop. I forgot to take a picture of this place on the outside but I seriously doubt that you would decide to come here if you see how it looks like (seriously ghetto).

Decoration: There were absolutely no decoration or eye candies inside this place. It is not well kept like a fine restaurant. I was seriously disappointed when I got there but we didn't want to search around because we had to leave town and didn't have time.

Food: I love Pho. Period! We find our way to Pho restaurants everywhere we travel to. But the quality of Pho here is not anything outstanding like what previous reviewers indicated. I had Pho at two other places in New Orleans on the same trip and their broth, in my opinion, was better than this place.

Service: they are staffed with vietnamese and american staffs. The (white) waitress that waited on us, whom I believe is related to the owner, is extremely rude! The whole time we were there she treated us as if we were there to eat for free. We came in the morning when they first opened and were one of two parties eating there. She was doing some cleaning and decided to come over and slap a bottle of whatever sauce onto a tray on a table right next to my wife while we were sitting there eating ... and just left without saying a word. When I walked up to the front and asked the second waiter about my to-go order, she asked me "you want to pay now?"

Price: $5 for a vietnamese sandwich that has nothing but bbq pork, with a little bit of carrots and green peppers. If you compare this to any po-boys from say .. ACME oyster house then it is cheap. But in comparison to other vietnamese restaurants it is about twice the price.

I FELT CHEATED FOR MY TIME GOING HERE AND IT WAS A TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT! As a visitor to New Orleans, if I can take out the time to search on the Internet, navigate my way there to your business, support your business and pay you a tip for your service, the very least you can do is appreciate us and treat us like we are customers. I hope this helps other visitors and we definitely will not be coming here for Pho on...

I like this Americanize idea how they run this place unlike most tradition Vietnamese restaurant. You wait in line, order at cashier, pay, get your #, find your good spot and wait just like you going to an American fast food joint. This is good for fast in and out without having to wait to get your bill. Although they seems to make less tips this way as I don't see much people tips for waiter. My rating reflects to the chef and cashier, I cashier wasn't rude to me but could of improve a bit with a happy welcoming face as her face didn't feel happy at all. But it's all comes down to the food quality. I read the reviews, told myself not to try base on the negative reviews from many those of us traditional Vietnamese. But I end up gave them a chance! The Pho was indeed lack of flavor and very salty, I was only able to sip the soup less than 10 spoons. I ordered Large Special #7, this seems to be pretty much Pho in american style! The meat, cut and slicing are way different, by looking at the photos of the worker there. I'm 100% sure the chef is not Vietnamese. I would definitely come back for that different taste if they improve on the soup and less salty, as some likes to use chilly and hoisin sauce which do has salt in it make it even saltier. NOTE! Those of you real Asian and dining with your older generation! Do not dine here! You'll be...
