This was a difficult stay to review, as we had a rough start but an overall okay experience, particularly thanks to one of the employees (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten). We got to our room and there blanket on our bed was dirty, with what was pretty clearly ejaculate right in the middle of it. The sheets also had obviously not been changed, as there was what appeared to be makeup on one of the pillows and several small suspicious hairs scattered throughout the bed. I talked to the ladies working the reception/bar and was very polite about it, so I was a bit disappointed by the lack of apology from the supervisor and the sort of lackadaisical response in general, though she did say she’d have the sheets changed right away so it was fine for me. When we came back in the evening I saw that the sheets had indeed been changed, but not the pillowcases. The dirty one had simply been flipped upside down and put under another one. I was pretty angry at this point, but was still polite when I went down and informed them that there was still a problem. The response this time was very disappointing, as the woman asked “so what do you want?” Followed by “do you want me to get you some new pillow cases”? I said that yes, I would like someone to put clean pillow cases on. When I went back to the room they quickly sent someone up with a set of new pillow cases, which he handed to me at the door and said “make sure they are clean before I leave”. After I verified they were clean and thanked him he left, and we changed the pillow cases ourselves. A manager called around this time to inform me that the hotel was fully booked that night but that if I came down in the morning she would move us to another room. I asked the next day about this, as we felt that if it was an upgrade we would of course take it, but if not that it was not worth the hassle now that we finally had clean sheets. The lady working the desk told me she wasn’t sure who had offered that, and said that it would be either a smaller room or perhaps one that was the same as ours—so not an upgrade and in fact, potentially a downgrade. We turned it down because it was unnecessary. Also, the hallways were quite dirty.
The other issues seem petty in comparison to this and would have led to a 3-4 star review, but I’ll lay them out anyways as they are what pushed me from 2 to 1. The customer service was generally poor, with the exception of the employee who handled our check-in and one other interaction. The bar was horrendously slow, and the workers just seemed not to care at all. I ordered two miller lights and somehow got one miller light and one of something else. Mind you, there was perhaps 2 or 3 other people at the bar at this point, and they all already had drinks—not exactly rush hour. It took about ten minutes to get their attention and manage to swap the beers once we had noticed. Additionally, The valet service scratched my car, though I didn’t notice until we had already left. Finally, the bar music was weirdly loud. I know that New Orleans is loud in general, and that’s fine, but it’s also your reception; we couldn’t even talk comfortably amongst ourselves, much less across the bar with the employees.
Overall, pretty disappointing for a hotel that proudly told me right when I arrived that they are part of the Hilton...
Read moreI want to start off this review by saying that the staff and service at the Moxy hotel New Orleans was great. Everyone working there was very friendly, and prompt. The location of the Moxy in New Orleans Hotel is pretty good it’s about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Quarter. As for the negative aspects of our stay, there was a mistake when we were checking in instead of charging or holding incidentals on our credit card our full stay was charged a second time, even though we had pre paid. We brought this up to the gentleman working the front desk and he corrected it probably but it took a whole week to get. Those funds are deposited to our account. The lobby serves yummy drinks but didn’t have all the ingredients to make several of the drinks that were listed there. They have fun board games, foosball, big, Jenga, etc. The furniture is outdated and old. I have heard that the Moxy hotel is geared towards millennials as soon as you walk in you smell a very strong perfume smell and it makes you think you’re walking into an ambercrombie store in the 2000s. It’s really strong and a little bit off putting. The first night we were there the one elevator in the lobby to get to all the rooms was broken. There was a paper clip attached to the button so you can use it was fixed by the morning. There is an ice machine on every other floor. We had to visit three floors before we could find one that works. There is also ironing rooms on every other floor. We had to visit a couple to find a working iron 1+, but they don’t tell you about it is there is a Britta water station on the eighth floor ironing room. In the lobby they have a microwave, toppings for popcorn, but they don’t sell popcorn because they said their machine has been broken for a while. There is coffee service and syrups to go in the coffee which is nice. The rooms were clean. They do housekeeping every other day, which was fine. They have a fold up table and a couple of chairs provided in the rooms. One of our chairs was broken but when asked if it could be replaced was quickly taken care of our phone didn’t work for one of the days so we couldn’t call down for anything but then started working again. The air conditioning works really well. Be aware there are no drawers. There’s several hooks where you can hang things and we knew that going into it so it was fine. And lastly, be aware, and be on the lookout for the rats that scurry out of the alley to the left of the entrance of the hotel.we saw rats while we were waiting for our rideshare. You are in what looks like an industrial downtown area so that is expected but the part that made me nervous is that the automatic doors to go into the hotel sometimes get stuck and are left open I can very easily see rats being able to go and I didn’t see any inside the hotel, but we saw several outside. Overall the location of the Moxy New Orleans it was convenient. The price wasn’t bad, but I feel like there is room for improvement and the hotel decor is pretty dated and rundown looking. I have to hand it to the staff, so they were super friendly. We only stayed for a couple of days so it wasn’t...
Read moreYou should only stay here if you need a place to drop your luggage and be extremely close to French Quarter.
The decor is supposed to be geared toward Millennials, I think the decor is a horrendous mismatch of over-stock items.
Check-in is done at the bar, and the bartenders are also the check-in clerks. Walking in the hotel at night the atmosphere is that of a bar/club...it is dark. You need a flashlight to use your credit card to check in. The card machine is literally in very a dark spot.
We stayed in room 311. The handles to the facet of the sink requires you to adjust them "just right" to stop the water from running.
First night we had no heat, staff came in and then we had temperatures set 83 degrees (as of this writing it is Fall and temps are fluctuating from 60s at night to plus 77 during the day, so I cannot understand why they couldn't set the temp to 74 degrees instead of 83) .
The mattress felt like some one laid one- thousand bed sheets out, then covered them with a fitted sheet. The most strangest hotel mattress I ever felt, it literally felt like an 8 inch stack of sheets.
We had ONE tiny round disc of "facial" soap, when we complained it was address by giving us TWO more tiny round disc of "facial soap".
The vent in the bathroom did not work, if you take a dump expect to smell it all night long, it has no place to go because the window in the room that use to open is now sealed and unable to open.
No closet, the decor is actually laid out for you to hang your clothes on peg hooks, which oddly run across the top of the TV.
The room has ONE folding chair, which housekeeping stores on two or three of the peg hooks.
The entry door to the room needs to be repaired, it is hard to open and drops slightly when it does.
The bathroom door does not close.
While there another guest room had a damaged entry door. How they addressed it just devalued staying at the hotel, most people, I feel, would say it made them feel unsafe, was there a raid? did someone break into the room? What ever happened no future guest should have to walk pass that door and see that.
The staff I encountered when arriving and during our stay gave great effort to be friendly and courtesy.
One more odd thing about that hotel... the hotel has double automatic sliding doors, the double door create a foyer, one set of sliding doors on the inside of the hotel and one set at the street side. When entering the building the door have a warning on them " DOORS SLIDE TO OPEN MOVE OUT OF THE WAY" what is odd about this is that you can only read this ENTERING the building, but the doors can only hit you if you are LEAVING the building, on the side that can hit you.... there is no warning.
The Moxy hotel New Orleans is STRANGE.
I have been told that the Moxy is a great hotel chain, just...
