Avoid Pre-Purchasing Tickets – Buy at the Door Instead!
If you're thinking about buying tickets in advance for a show at Howlin' Wolf, don't. My husband and I traveled from Baltimore to New Orleans to see the Hot 8 Brass Band on February 23, 2025, meeting up with friends who flew in from Richmond. We purchased our tickets through TicketWeb back in December, excited for the performance.
When we arrived at the venue for the 10:30 PM show, the ticket scanner informed us—only after scanning one of our tickets—that the Hot 8 Brass Band was not actually performing. Instead, we were told the musicians that night were “backup members” of Hot 8, but not the full band. No one mentioned this during ticket sales, and the wording was misleading at best.
We immediately asked about a refund. The employee scanning tickets repeatedly brushed us off, saying we just needed to email TicketWeb for a refund. He never offered to get a manager, nor did he suggest waiting for one. After numerous back-and-forths with TicketWeb, they told us the venue itself sets the refund policies—meaning Howlin' Wolf was passing the buck instead of resolving the issue.
This was a huge disappointment, especially since we were only in town for a short trip. The lack of clear communication, refusal to provide real assistance, and unwillingness to take responsibility for incorrect information left a terrible impression. If you really want to see a band here, I highly recommend buying tickets at the door so you know exactly what...
Read moreThe Howlin Wolf is a cool venue to see a show. Plus there is a separate bar called The Den for food and drinks.
I had been to this venue before it was the Howling Wolf (Praline connection maybe?). Like many things in New Orleans, time has not changed it much, if at all.
The venue is a large open room with a bar along the back wall. The stage is large and has two New Orleans type porches on the side. While they don't do much for a concert, they would probably add ambiance to a private event.
The staff were friendly and regardless of where we were, we had a good view of the stage. The bathrooms were pretty nasty, but they were acceptable.
The Den is a great place to get drinks or food prior to a show. While I didn't have food, I've been told it is very good. Drink prices were reasonable and their beer selection was better than other venues I've been to.
I like this venue and look forward to attending more...
Read moreSeeing this place rated 4.6, I was optimistic. And now, I’m just disappointed. Ordered the Hot 8 Sampler, wasn’t told they were out of gator balls until the food was paid for and served. Okay, no big deal. The bacon and cheddar beignets were over salted and tasted strongly of beer, with a sweet note. I’d give them a 2/5 on their own. The meat pies and crawfish pies were okay, but not 4/5, more like 3/5. Also ordered the slow roasted pulled pork sandwich with the hand cut fries. Again, it was just disappointing. The pulled pork tasted like what you would get out of a supermarket mass produced tub of pulled pork, and there was very little on it compared to the size of the sandwich. The roll it was on was fresh and tasty, so overall the sandwich gets a 2/5 for that. The hand cut fries were over salted, and burnt.
The bartender was super friendly and quick to...
