Went here recently after getting shut out on a reservation at a local place that my Partner and Father In Law usually go to. Since this pizzeria was only 2 blocks away from there we figured we should give it a try since we all love pizza and it’s in a great location on historical Stone Street.
Got seated right away and the menu was pretty so-so. The wine and beer list was quite extensive and had some recognizably delicious wines. The food menu however featured a lot of boring Italian-American options from Chicken Parmigiana w/penne to Vodka sauce shrimp penne (sounds absolutely horrendous) and Pasta Al Forno options like Manicotti. We decided to skip the pasta and went for the Antipasti Misti and Pizza.
First off the homemade bread was delicious and probably the best part of the entire meal. Very fresh and delicious with oil. The Antipasti Misti was a disaster the second it came out and the presentation was an absolute mess with veggies, meat, and small blocks of cheese just all thrown together on top of each other. My Partner and Father in Law are both from Italy and noticed right away the Prosciutto and Mortadella were disappointing domestic ones and not from Italy. And if it was from Italy it might have been one of the worst excuses from there to ever be put on a antipasti platter. Also on the plate were some more non-Italian meats and a sad excuse for Salami. The veggies were okay but honestly they should have been served better instead of the just sitting all over the plate in a pile.
We finally got our pizza and honestly it looked great at first glance but really it’s not worth $18 for a 12 inch round Margherita. On the menu the sauce said it was from “San Marzano tomatoes” but it really didn’t have that distinct San Marzano taste and was very bland. Really it reminded me of the kind of pizza you get for free at a bar when you buy a drink more than anything. Definitely wasn’t the worst pizza I ever had but for $18 I honestly expected so much more especially when I can get an authentic pizza cheaper at various other places in Manhattan alone. We also ordered the “Siciliana” and the eggplant was mushy and nothing special at 20 dollars.
We got about half way through both pizzas and we asked for the check and just left. With a great location and nice casual atmosphere I expected so much more. The wait staff was decent and we got everything on time but the food was just kinda lousy and phoned in. Maybe I’ll try this place again another day but from the great reviews it definitely didn’t meet my expectations at all. It’s a shame cause I actually enjoyed...
Read moreMy friends and I, a group of ten, recently dined at your restaurant expecting a pleasant evening. However, our experience turned out to be extremely unsatisfactory, primarily due to a series of miscommunications and unprofessional behavior from a staff member.
Upon our arrival, we consulted with a waiter regarding payment options. We expressed our preference for having the bill split ten ways, a request the waiter agreed to. Confident that the payment process would be smooth, we proceeded to order.
Unfortunately, when the time came to settle the bill, we were informed that the bill could only be split five ways. This sudden change was inconvenient and contradicted our initial understanding. Still, we could have overlooked this had the situation been handled with more professionalism and courtesy.
What amplified our discontent was the dismissive and indifferent attitude of a staff member, who claimed to be the manager. Instead of offering an apology for the confusion or working out a solution, he insisted that this predicament was our problem, making us feel both unheard and disrespected.
My attempts to bring the initial waiter into the conversation were blatantly disregarded. The so-called manager also lacked any visible identification, leading us to doubt his authenticity.
This has unfortunately been one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic customer service was disconcerting. Such behavior is not only damaging to the restaurant's reputation but also discourages potential repeat customers like us.
If I happen to recognize this staff member in any other dining establishment, I would leave promptly. Individuals with such poor understanding of customer service should reconsider their role in the hospitality industry.
In summary, the handling of our situation was disappointing. We hope that the management takes this feedback into consideration and makes necessary improvements in the customer service department to avoid such situations...
Read moreAdrienne's is one of the last major pizzerias in NYC that I haven't been to. After a long time waiting for no good reason, I finally decided to hit it. It's owned by the same people behind Nick's in Queens, the Patsy's chain of pizzerias (not the original), and a few other sit down pizzerias in the city. However Adrienne's seems to have gotten the most positive press in this mini-empire. I came on a Friday night, and Stone street was absolutely packed. Being very hot outside, we opted for inside, waited 15 minutes, and ordered after a brief deliberation on toppings. Service was efficient, if a bit impersonal. The place looked incredibly well run in general, as the place was packed yet kept up very well with orders; this pizzeria is one well-oiled machine. Business acumen aside, after trying this pizza and having visited several others in this family of pizzerias, I can see why Adrienne's is the standout.
The grandma pie, called an "old fashioned", is the thing to get here so that's what we stuck with. We got it with pepperoni, and were not disappointed. The crust's edge fries lightly in the pan it is cooked in, giving it a uniquely crisp texture; I usually opt for side slices on square pies, but here the more edges you get the better. The inner crust tends to have significant tip sag. The sauce was good as was the cheese, and the pepperoni crisped up nicely even though it could've been distributed more evenly. It was a bit oily however overall the individual ingredients came together well. This made for a great, enjoyable pie.
Normally I try to stay away from even mini pizzeria chains, but this one is a keeper. If this was by where I work I might be a regular. I'm not in the financial district often, however I will be to...
