I am extremely disappointed with this hotel.
First off, I stayed here for a business trip. My stay for the week had already been paid for, and all arrangements had been made for me and my colleagues.
Upon arriving, the gentleman at the front desk said I needed to pay a $500 security deposit. This information was not stated on the reservation confirmation. When I asked to charge it to the card used to book the stay, I was told that was not possible. After making some calls, my company had to fill out a card authorization form, email it to the hotel, and the hotel staff had to apply it to the stay. I had to ask the staff to apply the form to my other colleagues' stays so that they wouldn't go what I was going through, and I should not have been the one having to ask this - it's common sense. This is past 5 p.m., by the way.
During this, there was zero communication by the front desk; I went up to the desk a total of four times asking if the process was complete. It wasn't until the third time, when two other colleagues were trying to check in, that they told us there was a lounge on the second floor we could sit and wait at. I had been standing/sitting (in the one chair) in the first floor lobby for over thirty minutes before that happened. They told us they'd come and get us from the lounge once they were done inputting the information, but they never did.
Overall, I waited OVER an hour and a half from start to finish before gaining access to my room. That is completely unacceptable - especially after a long day of travel. The staff could have given us our room cards while they manually applied the authorization form to each of our reservations, not make us wait another 45 minutes. That is THEIR responsibility, not ours, to have to endure. The gentlemen at the front desk were unhelpful, unintelligible, and lacked empathy while my colleagues and I simply tried to check in after a long day of travel. We basically had to do their job for them.
On to the room:
These rooms have zero amenities, and I mean ZERO. For a hotel in the financial district, you'd assume they'd at least have an iron/steamer in every room for guests. No mini fridge, no refrigerator, no trash bags, only a hair dryer. You had to ask the front desk to bring you ice.
The entire makeup of the bed was extremely low quality; the mattress, the sheets (they felt like cardboard paper), the comforter, no headboard even! The toilets didn't flush properly, the walls were dirty, and the surfaces were dusty.
I was shocked that this hotel only offers coffee and tea in the mornings. For a hotel in this location and for this price, they should be offering breakfast, or at least grab-and-go breakfast options, as well as snacks and drinks in the evenings. But even if they did, and even if you go out and buy food or have some ordered in, you can't store the food anywhere due to a lack of a mini fridge and microwave.
Overall, I will never stay here or recommend this hotel to anyone again. They charge these prices without offering any amenities in return because they know people will gladly pay the price for being in the financial district. In the future, I will gladly stay at a different hotel a block down the street who actually cares about their customer's experience...
Read moreI stayed here for 2 nights in July of 2023. The FIDI Hotel is located on Stone St. in the financial district of NYC, and is close to Battery Park and the charging bull statue, and within walking distance to the 9/11 area. It is perhaps a 20-30 minute walk to Chinatown and the Brooklyn Bridge. A subway station for the R/W trains is 1 minute away, and the Wall Street station is ~5 minutes away for the 2/3 trains. Amenities included 2 bottles of water per day, a fitness center that we didn't check out, free wine&cheese on certain days of the week, and free coffee in the mornings. Notably, the hotel does not have a free breakfast. The website for FIDI hotel mentions a restaurant in the hotel but we did not see any functioning restaurant in this establishment.
The reasons for a 2 star review are as follows, in order of importance to me-
-There is an unsavory trend where some NYC hotels choose to exploit guests by charging them a "destination" fee, and FIDI Hotel partakes in this. The price a customer sees online probably does not include the destination fee, so patrons are essentially tricked into thinking they found a cheap hotel when the full price is actually obfuscated by hidden fees. Destination fees often have obscure terms & conditions on how to spend them, and FIDI Hotel is no different. When my friend checked us in, the concierge was transparent about the $100 deposit (I'm fine with this, it's intended to be returned unless you damage the room) but made no mention about a destination fee nor how to spend it (I'm not fine with this). We were not formally informed of the destination fee until checkout, at which point the concierge mentioned that $30 per day will be deducted from the $100 deposit. I will say that there is a document in each room that obscurely mentions that the destination fee pays for wifi (among other things which I didn't feel like reading). If you need to charge a destination fee to pay for wifi, sorry, but your business model sucks.
-One night was spoiled due to noise from a bar next door. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we could hear music, talking, and screams until late.
-As other reviews mentioned, the air conditioner is quite loud. I think I woke up every time it clicked on during the night. What's interesting to me is that we stayed at a Best Western motel before coming to NYC and they had air cons much quieter than the ones at FIDI hotel. Perhaps the budget is too tight to upgrade the units here.
-The rooms are on the small size. This hotel would not be comfortable for families or business people. There are no desks, no microwave, and no room for large luggage. The term "no frills" comes to mind. Personally, I'm fine with small rooms but...

CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING. SERIOUS HEALTH AND SECURITY ISSUES. SCAMMERS.
I made the mistake of booking this hotel for five nights, lured by its supposedly convenient location. I thought it might save us some money on transportation, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
From the moment we checked in, it was clear that this establishment is far from reputable. Upon arrival, we were blindsided by a $100-per-night deposit – a staggering $500 upfront that was never mentioned during the booking process. This was our first clue that we were dealing with a shady operation, but we decided to stay, hoping the experience would improve. Unfortunately, it only got worse.
The room was utterly unremarkable, and the staff was practically non-existent. Basic amenities like shampoo and shower gel were never replenished, and the hallways reeked of an unpleasant odor. We chose not to complain, as we’re typically easygoing and adaptable, but in hindsight, we should have left immediately.
Then came the final night, which turned this disappointing stay into an outright horror. After a long day, we returned to find our room in a revolting state. Not only had it not been cleaned, but someone had used our bathroom in our absence. The toilet was smeared with stains and mysterious white residues, the towels were soaked, the floor was sticky and wet, and, shockingly, we found pieces of meat scattered on the floor. The smell was nauseating, and even the toilet paper was gone.
We immediately called room service, only to be informed that the hotel was fully booked, so a room change was out of the question. We were left with no choice but to sleep in that filth.
The following morning, I spoke with Angelika Rodriguez, who claimed to be the Rooms Division Manager. She assured me that we would be refunded for that night, along with an additional 10% off the entire reservation. Over a month later, that refund has yet to materialize. Instead, we’ve been subjected to a maddening runaround, with the hotel and their so-called “suppliers” passing the buck and refusing to take responsibility.
As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I initially sought to resolve this issue privately. However, the blatant dishonesty and lack of professionalism from this hotel leave me with no choice but to warn others. This establishment is a disgrace to the industry – they are untrustworthy, incompetent, and utterly unconcerned with the well-being of their guests.
Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place. It’s not worth the risk, the money,...
