Recently went to celebrate my cousins birthday and it is very unlikely that I'll go back . I walked in was greeted by the security who was friendly and that's the only nice thing I can say about my experience. When I went to the bar the bartenders took a period time too assist with seeing if I was ready to order and sure I would need time to think about what I would like . But since bartender 1 was busy entertaining a couple + bartender 2 walked off so bartender #1 did ask me what would i'd like and I asked if they smelled tequila he gave me brands cool. But then when I asked if he was good with mixing something like a surprise because I like to see when someone can be creative on the spot unfortunately bartender #1 preference was whiskey so he explained that you cant mix whiskey as fine he gave off the attitude he was a whiskey connoisseur but instead of introducing me to something he enjoyed he was already done with assisting me even when I didnt order he walked off then bartender #2 appeared and assisted a little better with drink choices I order 2 jungle something for my cousin who arrived after #2 made the drinks said it was $24 I gave her 27 she didnt give me change . Now I know when I'm not welcome and I don't stay where I'm not going to enjoy myself especially when i paid like everyone else it wasn't busy so what was the meaning for the clearly unprofessional unwelcoming atmosphere? I paid upfront since the bartender told me and once my cousin and I finished each of our own drinks we left . It's sad to see that even in this current time we still have people not enjoying what they do . Just working pay check to check and being miserable. There are other locations and other bars better dives that aren't stuckup in the attitude that they are better then the position they are in this location needs to do better to treat All guest equal not just certain ones leave the negativity out the door ! Otherwise find a better position if you don't like what...
Read moreThis is the Fredo Corleone of the Barcade family. I implore people who choose to visit this Barcade not to judge the chain on this experience alone. I live on this block and I go to both the Jersey City and Williamsburg locations rather than come in here (and I'm really lazy).
What separates Barcades from the Dave and Busters of the world is their game collection and more importantly their comprehension of how to fill limited square footage with the crown jewels of the world's greatest era in electronic entertainment. If you were fortunate enough to spend your formative years in the 1980s and subsequently witness the golden age of music, TV, movies and, most relevant to this review, video games, you will likely comprehend what a brilliant concept Barcade truly is. Sadly the brilliant minds that created this concept either forsook the East Village location or (more likely) had zero respect for the clientele this location was likely to attract and subsequently stuffed it to the gills with their worst inventory.
I don't believe this was an accident. I believe they knew you wouldn't miss Rolling Thunder, Double Dragon, Gauntlet, or Spy Hunter because they analyzed the market and assumed you didn't care about that kind of quality so they don't waste it on you. Those are just the most glaring off the top of my head. It's only my opinion, but if I'm wrong why do they have all those names at every other location? I don't blame management for the way they stocked this place, but I wish they wouldn't call it Barcade. I hope management reads this and gives purists something, anything at all, so they don't walk in here and think this is what Barcade is all about.
In short, you need...
Read moreThe place itself is great. All the good games for a quarter basically. If you wait around you can play any one. People don't hog them. The bartenders are quick. But be warned. The two stars is for the guys at the door scamming people. I had bar hopped three places prior including the barcode on 24th Street where security took my ID and scanned it with no problem. But my friends were at the St. Marks location.
My ID had expired. And he wouldn't take the emailed DMV temporary version. I told him I was the designated driver and my friends were already inside. First time in my life I pulled the can I speak to your manager who eventually said to give him $20 and that I wasn't allowed to drink. (there was no way to regulate that). I also watched them try to charge a guy $30 to get in... His friends were also inside already. And he was walking in with three other people. A friend came out to see what was going on and when he explained the $30 cover charge, noone else paid. They're friend went inside and came out with 6 people and left. So 10 people walked away from buying drinks and tokens because the security guards wanted a $30 cover to get in. He also turned away a couple that was before me over the guys ID and they refused the cover charge and walked away.
He explained that management was very strict about scanning IDs... Not that strict that a little payola under the table can make them look away. It leaves a sour taste in your mouth because you know you're getting scammed. I hope they're splitting that with...
